The challenge had been issued, despite having a pretty good notion that she really didn't have a snow-ball's chance in hell at winning. Still, it'd be a good test of how far she had come since arriving on the island. A good work out, good practice, because she knew Chels was a skilled fighter, and wasn't about to go easy on the trainee just because there was a large gap between their ranks. ( Doing something right, for once, I sssssssee.) Gretchen ignored the naga as she drew her hair over her shoulder, weaving it into a quick braid so it'd stay out of her face for this. After that it was just a matter of waiting for her friend to meet her down on the training field.

Gretchen jumped at the sudden brush of hands on her face, but she smiled a moment after, even leaves back into the other girl(who else would it be?). "Now don'tcha think you've already got a big enough advantage over me without me being blindfolded?" She drawled out with surpressed amusement, arms coming up to cross over her chest.

"I'm not that m- Augh!" What started as a protest ended in Gretchen jerking away as she swatted at the offending hand. "You're despicable, you are." As if Chel wasn't already aware of that. Using her scarf to dry out the inside of her ear, the trainee backed away from her friend, summoning her staff to her free hand. "Shall we get this thing started then?"

"My feelin's are real hurt Gretch," Chel said with feigned exasperation. She summoned her bow just the same.
She couldn't just leave the trainee hanging. That, and after having her a** handed to her by the last three or four fights she'd been in, she kind of wanted the satisfaction of winning.

"I'm pretty sure you'll get over it." She was still grinning, but it was challenging now, staff coming up as a defensive shield between them.

The thing that people never seemed to understand is that while Chel's weapon was a bow, it had blades for a frame.
Which meant even from paltry distances she was still dangerous.
Rather than go for a direct stab (because Gretchen was already blocked with her staff- and quite well!), Chel slipped under her defenses to her backside. She took her bow handle with two hands and drove the blade into Gretchen's back for a literal backstab.
HP: 60/60

Well that was a very strong start to things. Chel moved, faster than Gretchen was expecting, and it wouldn't take much to slip past the Trainee's defenses to get at her back, and once there- She felt the impact first, hard enough to nearly knock the wind out of her, and she might have fallen forward if blades hadn't caught on her shield, offering resistance that kept her on her feet, if barely. Staggering away, she sucked in a hissed breath, back arching in a long stretch as she turned, staff swinging upward between them. "Damn girl. Remind me never to piss you off f'real." ( Retaliate!) Gretchen moved automatically, turning on her heel as the staff came up for a home run styled swing at the other girl's bow arm and shoulder. HP: 28 DMG: 5 CHG: 1/3

Lucky for Gretchen, Chel had a bum shoulder. Despite continuous physical training on her shoulder if hit in just the right way, it would still go throb and go limp sometimes. It just so happened that Gretchen hit it in such a way, and it lowered her arm enough for the staff to jam against her side the wrong way.
She jumped back and held up her bow defensively, awaiting the next attack. "Nah I suck at fighting. Ask anyone."
HP: 55

"I don't believe that for a second." Not if that first hit had been anything to go by. She could still feel the blade in her back, despite it obviously not being there. The spot tingled, not quite aching, but maybe that was just all in her head. Lips pressing together in concentration, the trainee moved in on the offensive, staff coming up for a half spin above her head before coming down in a heavy down ward swing at the other girl's should, completely unawares of that being a bit of a weak spot. HP: 28 DMG: 6 CHG: 2/3
