HOW ANGRY IS SHE? the sign read. Lucas flinched. That was the question, wasn't it? The man scratched beneath his half ponytail with his prosthetic hand, looking over the rows of flowers and chocolates and guilt inducing messages that were surely not helping things. But where did he start? He was shopping for a...an antlered potato and his Princess. What would be good enough? What would actually say 'I'm sorry I'm such an overreacting enormous a*****e' in a lasting way better than words? He was lost. This was why he probably never had a solid relationship - he was very probably the worst at knowing how to make something right on an emotional level. And here he was. Trying to make things right. Trying.

Lately, Carin had been stuck on flowers. For some reason, she just couldn't get enough of them. There had to be fresh flowers on her desk, or little corsages to accompany more important outfits, or as a hair accessory when she just needed that little bit of colour. This meant that lately, she couldn't get enough of the flower shop.
She already had a couple of bright pink gerberas in hand when she spotted him. From where she stood, he was in profile. The tall, dark and handsome sort that always seemed to be brooding - at least in her expert harlequin trained opinion - and what's more, he was doing all of this in a flower shop, which meant -
"On a scale of didn't put the dishes away to called out someone else's name, how deep in the dog house are ya?" She asked as she slid on over to him. Today, she wore a rather colourful dress under a black cardigan, with black heels, and her brown hair pinned so most of it hung in curls over one shoulder. More importantly, she was grinning, and her green eyes were fixed on him expectantly.

Lofting his brows at the voice next to him, Lucas turned his head to see a pretty little thing that was so bright and vibrant, she put the flowers to shame. He laughed softly at the question and made a soft 'tsk!' with the corner of his mouth, tilting his head to the side with a subtle shake. "I'm pretty sure they don't make flowers for, 'Sorry I Insulted Your Friend And Basically Thought You Were Crazy.'" He winced, even just saying those words out loud, eyes shifting to the side in a guilty manner. "I'm Lucas, probably the world's biggest a*****e right now." He grinned, self-depreciating. "And that's just today."

"Hmm…I'd probably put that between momentary lapse in judgement and didn't think before speaking." Carin mused as she tried to place his situation on her imaginary scale, clearly enjoying this, even if it was at his expense. "But you're right, I don't think they make flowers for that specific problem." Gosh, this was one handsome man! Lucky whoever he was here for, even if the situation was on the negative.
"Oh come now, I'm sure we can find at least one person that's a bigger one than you!" She pat his arm good-naturedly, not doing a very good job at being reassuring. "You just have to believe." Wise wisdom punctuated with a solemn, knowing nod. It all melted away quickly and she was back to smiling at him, as amicable as ever. "I'm Carin. Now let's figure out how to back onto Santa's nice list, ya?"
She turned a thoughtful look to the available flowers, tapping her chin as she pondered through this particular problem. There was so much potential!
"Could you give me more information? Like, are we buying for a guy, gal, or somewhere in between? Do you think they'd even like flowers? What kind of person are they?"

A soft laugh followed her words, wearing a tired grin despite himself. "It's, uh...it's fairly complicated. But isn't that how things go?" He fixed her with a smile at the pat, grateful for her good humor and that she wasn't beating him with a dozen roses for being insensitive. "Nice to meet you, Carin, even if the circumstance isn't quite so nice." Santa, Carin had said. The notion brought the image of Pax trying to put on a santa hat, earning a bit of a dryer smile from him. Man, he was in some bad way, wasn't he? "Well," he said slowly, rubbing his prosthetic arm in an absent gesture, "the one I'm getting flowers for -- is the friend." He paused. How did one phrase what Pax was without being shipped to the mental hospital? "They, uh, to my knowledge, don't prefer a gender. All I really know is they like flowers and I spooked them by being my charming a*****e self." Lucas chuckled, a soft sound. "And my friend, she's -- she's my Princess, she's the girl who has everything. So, if that doesn't have you in as many knots as it has me," he looked over to Carin, his smile reaching his pale eyes, "I'd definitely welcome the help."

"You too, Lucas. Not so sure this is a bad circumstance though. It's pretty good on my end!" The gerberas she was holding found themselves put back into their rightful container, where they would be safe for now. She'd come back for them later; a promise she actually whispered to them, because she loved them so much. Then, she settled in to listen to what she was to help him with, and what he was in for.
"Princess, huh?" For a moment, she sounded dubious. There were so many different interpretations of that particular title. She eyed him for a moment, apparently just long enough to decide it wasn't important enough to get into right now, and finally straightened up.
"It must be bad if those big ol'greys don't get you forgiven." Carin stared at him for a moment, especially once the smile seemed to reflect in his eyes. Her smile was back on her lips, the excitement once more shining in her green eyes. "I'm sure we can figure this out! I love helping. This'll be great!" Her hands clapped once before she started to rub her palms together excitedly.
"Flowers first. Hmm...quick question, how often are you an a*****e to them? Because if the answer is a lot, we might want to steer clear of the expensive sets." She gestured to one of the big display pieces, filled with roses. "...'Cause then it'll be expected every time from now on, you know?" Carin laughed, still probably enjoying this more than she should have. "That'll get waaay expensive for ya."
Chrystali she'll probably stop talking and help eventually i'm sure....maybe...

Carin was so cheerful and honestly kind, it really took Lucas a moment to make sure she was real and not some figment of his stressed out mind. A pretty and helpful lady at his lower point of need? Who could blame him for not being sure she was real? "Yeah, like a -- Disney Princess. The type you'd expect to talk to animals." Except that's how she earned the name. Not that he was going to share that with this sweet lady. He laughed when she complimented his eyes, shaking his head with a rather impressive kicked-puppy look. "I haven't exactly gone back to say 'sorry' yet, I wanted to come bearing gifts. A distraction, in case the eyes fail me." And then Lucas actually grinned a bit more free of his dismal personal rain cloud, comforted by Carin's carefree and positive outlook. It felt good to not be so...alone and confused. The grin remained through the question, but he winced visibly. "How much of an a*****e does it make me if it was the first meeting...?" Enoh Love I DIDN'T GET THIS QUOTE I AM SO DAMN SORRY If I don't respond within a day or two, feel free to requote or IM me! Gaia's system has been a shitlord lately. :<

…All this, after a first meeting?
Carin stared at him for a few seconds of unblinking silence. "Let's…Let's go with this, then." Then, slowly, she reached out for a nearby arrangement. It was small, modest, and adorable. She held it out to him. "Cute. Not too expensive." Finally, her unbreaking stare wavered, and she closed her eyes as she let out a bark of a delighted laugh. "Just in case!" You know, should the path he's on find a higher, further trajectory. She clapped him good-naturedly on the shoulder with her free hand. Eventually she stopped giggling, and her hands were put to better use on her hips. She looked around the flower ship, grinning wide, searching for something that would work for a friend who had everything. Hmm.
"Okay, well, Disney Princess. I guess she likes animals? Could you tell me about her?"
Chrystali omg noooo it's okay! I've been busy too so no worries!!

Accepting the arrangement, he looked it over, inspecting the flowers and the leaves with a more critical eye than one that saw beauty. Lucas did, however, think that Pax would like the pink. "This is beautiful. I just hope they'll think so enough to forget -- " that I ran from it like a monster " -- that I was less than cordial. Not sure there's an apology card for that, either." He flickered a smile when Carin clapped him on the shoulder, chuckling softly and tucking the arrangement in the crook of his good arm. "She -- yeah, you could say that. More like animals like her, too." Lucas rubbed his prosthetic finger between his brows, thinking. How did one encapsulate Autumn into a sentence or two? "She's beautiful, not like you'd think on silver screens, but that sort of -- effervescent way, that quality of goodness and kindness around her but with enough sass to choke a giraffe. Smart, talented, the one you don't get in the way of if her mind is set." Lucas paused, his expression a little distant. And you went and got in the way. Good job, steed. "She...she likes coral and seafoam colors, make up, and -- and she has a really adorable white cat. And tea. She loves tea." The sadness touched his brow again, looking to the flowers he was holding. Would an apology ever be enough?

As Lucas spoke, Carin had drifted towards another small nearby arrangement; this one a set of light blue flowers in a little feline planter, ready to suggest it as something cute for someone who was clearly unique and must have liked cats. Had they had a tea place somewhere, she would have suggested that, but as it were…
Bringing the planter to his attention was on the tip of her tongue, but when she turned back to him, she saw the sadness reach his face. It made her pause, blink, and reassess her plans. She looked down at the planter between her hands, and the happy little flowers that reflected on her skin.
"Hey! I just had a thought!" She chirped happily and suddenly, as if her own small moment of quiet reflection never happened. "You know what people don't do enough of now-a-days? Picnics. Maybe you could take the Princess and her friend on a nice picnic somewhere? That's personal, and from the heart, and also gives you a chance to apologize for being a dink without them easily avoiding you." Still, she held the planter, pretty much going to use it as round two.
"Think they'd like that?"

His eyes turned to Carin as she spoke up, lifting his brows with polite interest and a friendly smile, chasing away his moment of sadness in turn. Her suggestion earned a sort of whuffling laugh, his grin crooked and amused. "That's kind of how I first met her," Lucas divulged, "so that...could be two fold for Princess. For her friend, I'm...I'm not really sure." He bit his bottom lip for a moment before smiling again. "It's worth a shot, though. Thank you, Carin." And he paused, a thoughtful look crossing his features as he gazed at the woman. "Do you do this professionally? I feel like you just solved hours worth of my agonizing in a handful of minutes." Lucas chuckled, turning to better face her. "Truly, how can I thank you?"

Carin's eyes widened in astonished surprise.
"Really?! Holy s**t!" She cackled once, straightened and slapped one open hand against her chest with pride, leaving it there. "I'm so good at this!" The cat planter was put back where she found it, clearly believing it was no longer necessary. She did pat it once, as if to thank it for its services. "Hey, all you can do is apologize and mean it! Whatever she does after that is up to her. I hope she forgives you though. I know I would!"
"You're very welcome! And naw, I work at The 4th Wall! I'm only here because I really like flowers right now. Like whoa-like flowers." She spread her hands helplessly, before doing a happy little shuffle back towards the fridge with the pink gerberas she had been fawning over before this, freeing it and it alone. "We were both in the right place at the right time though, huh?" She grinned brightly at him, tilting the gerberas closer to her nose so she could smell it.
"You said 'Thank you'! That's good enough for me, really." Her hands swished, as if shooing away the notion she needed to be repaid. "But I guess…I'd also like an update on how it went? Yanno, to see if we need to fix the battle plan?" After some thought, she went back to the fridge to get a couple more of the gerberas, and a few pieces of decorative grass and leaves, all condensed into a little bouquet in her hands. There was another pause, where she gazed at him thoughtfully.
"I'd still try batting those pretty grey's first though. That's a pretty good Plan A." The thoughtful look continued, though it drifted away from him and to the ceiling, with her little bouquet held prettily against her chest. "Maybe I should give you my number, in case you need emergency advice?"
Chrystali omg i had no idea that was how they met! I was sitting here like, 'I wanna go on a picnic' and here we are…

He laughed warmly at her reaction, her open surprise and exuberance so easily refreshing. She was such a warm and positive person, Lucas actually felt he might stand half a chance just on her belief alone. "Your vote of confidence is extremely appreciated," he grinned, easy and open, "you should really consider a profession in some sort of gift therapy. You'd be a millionaire." Lucas followed her amicably back to the flowers she had her eye on, gaze still a little tired but his smile easily lighting his pale eyes again. "That can be arranged." Her terms were still sweet and considerate and quite frankly, he was certain he was going to contract a cavity just from being in proximity to her. "I'll tell you what," he finally said, raising his brows and putting the flowers he was holding on the counter. "You let me buy those pretty flowers for you and my number will come with 'em." Lucas quirked another smile, trying to be sly but it was a bit silly, all told. He knew well that he was a bit of a cheeseball. "Don't make me bat my eyes to plead, because I'm not above it, knowing it may actually work." Enoh Love LMFAO YEAH Autumn and Rosalinde were having a bit of a picnic and Lucas was jogging, SO IT'S VERY SUITING. YOU HAVE STRONG POWERS. 8V

Carin's eyes went unfocused at the thought…but more at the thought of being a millionaire, and still be getting paid to shop for other people. That would be amazing. Hugely amazing.
"I…will have to look in to that! Shopping for a living? Hell to the yes!" She squirmed a bit in the spot in pure excitement, before shuffling back to him, still grinning away. "I'm pretty much doing that at The 4th Wall, though. Just like…a very specific group of people doing some gift-slash-shopping therapy! Nerds are great." Her hands came together, bouquet and all, to mime a small box. The gesture fell away when he gave a rather interesting offer, and she stared at him for a moment, before her expression changed into a rather dubious one.
"Hmmm…I dunno…you might have to. You know, just to convince me. Since I'm clearly on the fence about it." Carin said, as she casually slipped the flowers into the hands of the waiting clerk.

She'd already mentioned it, but this time, recognition flickered through his eyes. "You work for Cid? No kidding!" Lucas laughed - of course this vibrant, pleasant woman would work for that guy - nodding his head with an easy grin. "Well, I know where to find you. So, it's only fair..." Oh, but she challenged him. "If you insist," he said in an almost sorrowful way, making sure the flowers were secure on the counter and clearing his throat. Lucas made a brief show of rolling out his shoulders, like he was preparing an entire song and dance, before he gave her his best puppy-dog eyes. His brows turned upwards over his large gaze, letting his long lashes do the work of framing his pale eyes, lips tucked in an upside down 'v' shape. His eyes were actually a little wet before he bat his eyelashes at her, uttering a soft little, "Please?" Enoh Love NO I LOVE CARIN AND THEY NEED TO MEET AGAIN, ESPECIALLY POST META, Lucas needs a fran (and help with another apology, oops, he is pro at ******** up first meetings)
