I expect the 2 most common answers to be ozzy osbourne, and ronnie James dio. And thus the most comon debate amongst sabbath fans begins again in here. Please give an explanation for what you vote.
~me~ I will forever consider the ozzy days the "classic days". And yes, i realize arguing that ozzy had a better voice than dio is a stupid arguement. I just think ozzy fit the band better. I think he produced better songs than Dio did. Another reason is Geezer Butler quite 1 album into the Dio era. In my opinion Geezer was crucial to black sabbath, and for the most part can only be found in the Ozzy era.

I have to go with Dio. Although I like Ozzy's voice, I like ronnie's equally as well. The only difference is that I like the songs off the album Heaven and Hell. whee

sweet, i'm glad you were able to express your opinions w/o saying things like "ozzy sux". dio was a greart singer too i agree. I even liked the "dungeons and dragons" image he brought to the band with all his chain mail and what not he wore.

I strongly dislike ozzy, but he had the best era. and he was the best singer for them in some cases. because he had the doomy voice songs like Electric funiral and under the sun wouldn't be the same with out him.

Sure man,
I disslike ozzy because he is very over rated in my opinion. Hes very monotonic and is a horrible singer. not just for metal, but for any vocalist.
That and he takes credit for being "the father of metal" it wasn't just him. it was the whole band of black sabbath if anyone should take the credit. what they did in there music was never done before. and ozzy "sung" lyrics. he didn't make any contribution to the band at all
next is because hes a ******** sell out. after sabbath kicked him out, he made his band. witch is understandable but he makes shows and garbage merchendise. it pisses me off.
and because the stupid s**t he does, like pissing on the alemo, spraying arosol on geezers d**k while taking a piss.... and many more crap.

What makes me wonder is why he tries taking credit for being satan. the "prince of darkness" but personally i think when he was a dickhead he was a good singer, when he went to rehab and stopped being stupid, he lost all vocal range. i think ozzy deserves some sort of credit as a pioneer of metal though. about the stupid stuff, that thing he did to geezer sounds mean but some of the stuff he did makes me laugh.

Thats a pretty good point of veiw, I think if they all as a band took credit for being "godfathers of metal" then it would me more acceptable and is that what happend to him? rehab? wow. its just like james from metallica
And I think hes a good singer, For sabbath. He couldn't sing for any other band but sabbath because they need that monotonic sound. Like in Electric funiral or in paranoid. hes just like motorheads singer lemmy, If he sung for any other band he would be s**t. but motorhead needs that kinda vocals to be as good as they are.
