It was a cloudy day - probably a sign that rain was coming - but Anya couldn't be bothered to find shelter quite yet. The brown lioness was sprawled across the sand on her back, shuffling back and forth to feel more of it across her fur. She'd managed to find a squishier part of it, not too close to the water but still close enough that she could listen to the waves lap against the shoreline.
Her eyes were closed and she sighed contentedly, not wanting to move from her spot. Even though the sun wasn't out, these beaches were still a joy to be at. It really wouldn't be a bad place to call home....
Her mussing was cut short though as her stomach gave a loud groan. This time, the sigh that escaped her was one of exasperation. It's true that she hadn't gone to hunt for herself in a little while. She didn't want to accidently hunt some of the food that belonged to the pride that lived here, and she was enjoying being at the beach too much to want to leave.
Her hunger was making itself known though. She would have to do something about that soon. magnadearel xP Sorry for how late I am at starting this. Got busy over the week. I'll edit the title too with whoever you decide to throw in.

MangoMeow No worries. I completely understand. Desher-bik strolled along the sand dunes. It was his turn to patrol some of the borders, and his son had wanted hunting practice. The male had decided to kill two birds with one stone. It was his job to be visible, and his son's to be hidden. It was good practice for the young male. If they had any luck, he would scare some prey into his son's waiting paws.
He liked the feel of sand between his paws. It was all he'd really known for most of his life in a desert. Walking beside a big expanse of water that wasn't illusion sometimes unnerved him still. The waves could be so big, and loud. With the clouds in the sky he would guess a storm was brewing. Those always made the waves worst. Hesperus knew his father was due to go out on a patrol, and had done his best to convince him. Not that it was hard. His father was pretty easy going. Particularly when he said he wanted to practice hunting. None of the other ranks had really called to him, and hunting was a useful occupation for the pride. Plus he got out and got to see new places.
He was stalking behind some sand dunes when a strange shape caught his eye. Hesperus crept closer until he could identify it. Unfortunately it wasn't prey. However it was a lioness. He raced back to tell his father, who was the guard after all! "Dad! Dad! There's a lioness I don't recognize on the next dune over." Of course he was young, and didn't know the whole pride. Still better safe than sorry. "She's just laying on the sands. I don't know if she's hurt or not."To find his son running back toward him without a catch was a bit surprising to say the least. Desher's eyebrow rose as he heard what the youngster had to blurt out. "Let's go find out then." He picked up his pace until the pair crested the dune and started down the other side. His son he noted, hanging back just a bit.
"You there. State your business." It wasn't a lioness he knew either. Best to error on the side of caution.

magnadearel Lol, so, funny story. I actually just finished an rp with Anya meeting a lioness named Hokulani and a couple of her cubs. That wouldn't happen to be Desher's mate, would it? Flexing a paw, Anya debated whether or not to get up yet, but between her stomach and the cloudy weather, there wasn't much she could do. 'Ugh, five more minutes...' She set her paw back down on her chest, ready to go back to drifting sleepily until she absolutely had no choice-
And then the choice was made for her.
Startled by the voice nearby, she flailed her paws and then, still on her back, whipped her head around to face whoever was speaking. It was another lion - two actually, she noted after seeing the white form a little ways behind the other - and he was walking towards her rather purposefully. It took her a moment to register what he said, and by the time she had, the lioness had relaxed back into the sand.
"Just laying here," she replied, a slightly amused lilt in her voice, "The sand feels great. It'd be a waste not to enjoy it." She should probably be more concerned about two unknown lions coming towards her, but it didn't seem like the people here were particularly violent... so she decided to take her chances.

MangoMeow Amusing fact: not the first time I've been asked this question. XD Blind, starry pelted, healer lioness? Yup that's his mate. XDDDDD Desher approached cautious without appearing to. She might be hurt, might not, or might be faking to get him to let his guard down. Not that he had a reason to suspect her, it was just good practice. As she lay there, he gave her a good look over. He felt something familiar tickling the back of his mind. It took a moment to pin the errant thought under his paw.
He nodded as she stated the obvious. "Glad to hear your just relaxing and not in any danger. By the by, you from the old Dawnwalkers?" Desher resisted glancing down his jewelry, so similar to hers. He occasionally ran into others from his old pride. Hesperus followed his dad down the dune after a bit. There didn't seem to be any aggression on either part. It was hard to tell they were related in fact. Hesp seemed to take wholly after his mother. Not that it mattered here. He came closer and peered at her curiously now that he was sure they weren't going to start fighting. Desher was teaching him some of the fighting moves he knew. Just in case he had to defend his kill or himself some day.
"Hullo," he said a bit shyly. It felt rude not to at least acknowledge her. Hesp knew from personal experience just how wonderful warm sand could be. He didn't blame the lioness for wanting to rest and relax.

Flicking an ear, Anya hummed a slow yes while she studied him for a moment. This was the second time she'd been asked that question recently. 'Is it really that noticeable?' Come to think of it, the jewelry he was wearing... It was a little bit different from hers, but she recognized it nonetheless! What are the odds of coming across two former Dawnwalkers in the span of a few days!
Now that she really thought about it, didn't her new friend mention that her mate used to be part of the old pride too? She didn't get to meet him or very many of her cubs before, so it is possible... or maybe a bunch of her former pride-mates just ended up here too.
Wiggling a little in excitement, the brown lioness replied back verbally this time, "Yep, born and raised a Dawnwalker!" She paused, "Well, not anymore, obviously, but I was. I take it you were too?"
Tilting her head towards the other lion, he seemed almost... nervous? Shy? Something like that, but she didn't think she was that scary. Maybe he was just cautious around strangers. So, she smiled and chirped back, "Hello!" Then, addressing both of them, she continued with, "I'm Anya, by the way. Wanderer, relaxer, and a lover of sand."

MangoMeow Apologies for taking so long to reply. Desher grinned and relaxed almost completely when she answered affirmative. If it hadn’t been for the jewelry she was wearing, he’d never have guessed. Coming from the Dawnwalkers, she was alright in his books. “I thought as much. Our jewelry is rather distinctive if you know what to look for.” He gave a nod, “aye. I was with the group that got sent away for a time because of the plague. We lost touch for a little, but finally found our way back home.”
How he missed his desert home. It brought back nostalgia meeting a former pridemate. Oh he still had the sand here, but it was a desert of a different sort. “Please to meet you Anya. I’m Desher-bik, and this is my son, Hesperus.” He gave a chuckle. “Sand we have aplenty here. Not as much as back home, but enough to get it stuck where you don’t want it.” Hesperus was baffled by his father’s out of the blue question. What was Dawnwalkers? When his father glanced at his own jewelry and then at hers, he noted it was similar. Weird! She seemed to understand the cryptic remark though. He learned something about his father this day! Maybe he’d ask his mother about it later, or his father.
He smiled shyly at her return greeting, then bobbed his head as his father introduced him to the female. Suddenly he felt like a third wheel and shifted uncomfortably. These two already had a point of common interest, but he had none. He knew his father was devoted to his mother, and didn’t have a concern in that direction.

The brown lioness chuckled, and stretched out across the sand a bit more. He was right about it getting into places you don't want it, but she had missed the sensation of the little grains in between her fur and claws, and wouldn't trade the familiar feeling for the world. (She probably wouldn't be thinking that later when she had to bathe herself, but she pushed that thought to the back of her mind for now.)
She paused as the sound of a wave crashing against a rock nearby caught her attention. She'd noticed it earlier, but it seemed like the water was rougher than it was the past few days she had been here. She hummed a little to herself, wondering if maybe the coming storm had something to do with it.... And then noticed another sound, much, MUCH fainter than the waves but certainly closer. At first she was confused, before realizing...
That was her stomach.
Oh right. Food. She was hungry and needed to hunt soon. Feeling hot under her fur, Anya's ears pulled back in embarrassment, hoping that perhaps the other two lions hadn't heard that.magnadearel Just now noticing the weird spacing in that last response I made. xD;
