Velvet was born in ponyville to a family with the gift of green hooves.
She always felt out of place because she wasn't good at growing things like the rest of her family.
Her parents made a living selling berries from their patches at the farmers.
Her big sister Rose had a knack for growing flowers from a young age.
She seemed to have known her purpose right from the start, being the quickest in their family to earn her cutie mark.
Velvet had no idea what her future was going to be but it surely wouldn't be this.
Velvet didn't like getting dirty or being out under the hot sun.
She endured it for one reason alone, well one reason besides she loves her family, and that reason is ice cream.
Everyday after a long morning of caring for the berry plants and collecting harvests, Velvet's mother would walk her down to the Ice cream parlor.
Together they'd pick one of the 3 flavors and share a cone.
Those were some of Velvet's happiest moments in her childhood, those afternoons bonding with her mother over a frozen treat.

It's been years since then. Velvet is a teenager. Her sister Rose is running a successful flower shop in town and her Family's berry patch has spread across their land. Velvet's parents were always busy now. They and her extended family spend most of the good weathered days tending to the crop. Well, except her grandparents who spend that time making delicious baked goods with the berry harvests.
This was an especially hot day in summer and Velvet sat alone on her front porch.It had been awhile since Velvet had visited the town, or the parlor she frequented as a child. As the morning turned into the afternoon she found herself longing for the frozen treat of summer, ice cream. Her parents weren't back yet but she was old enough! So she decided to head into town herself in search of that old ice cream parlor. When she reached the town, she followed the trail down a familiar path until she reached her destination
To her shock she found the frozen treats shop was going out of business! The Mare who owned the shop recognized Velvet from when she was a just a foal and smiled at her fondly. She explained that people just weren't interested in ice cream like they used to be. Velvet looked around the parlor, seeing all her happiest memories and decided at that moment that she would have to save the store from closing. She promised the Mare she'd return soon and ran off to make a plan.

As any smart resourceful pony would do, Velvet started her search at the town Library. Unfortunately there weren't any books on how to keep an ice cream parlor from closing, or on ice cream in general. There were, however, a lot of books on baking, which gave her an idea. Her grandparents baked desserts all the time she could ask them for help! So it was decided. Next stop, Grandma's house!
