I hope it's okay to goof off a little and share what I'm working on right now! I got a request from someone who saw a post of mine in one of the art forums. It's for their D&D character - and character drawings and portraits are kind of about the only thing I do, haha!

Here's some progress stuff:

Colors are the last thing I've gotta do, but I need a break!

Aw, man! Thanks a bunch, you guys! I really appreciate it! I like character portrait dealies a lot; they're enjoyable to do, and they don't... well, that's not true; I was gonna say "they don't take long," but I'm actually very slow at doing anything, art included. But! They're not stressful, so the time they take isn't really an object - and isn't that what's important? xp

I'm gonna agonize over how to color this one for a bit, so here's something I DID finish and color recently.

User Image User Image User Image

It was a gift for a YouTube guy who put up some art prompts. I felt obliged to fill one because of a single video (amongst a mishmash of others) that helped me get to sleep once when I had super duper insomnia.

I used an underpainting for this one and then did flat color overlay layers on top, which gave it a different look than I'm used to producing! Not bad, but I want to work harder to make the colors more complex in stuff like this - really help it pop.

Also, this picture marks a new standard in what I might be able to do if I put in work, and has given me the energy to try to do a little more art-ing! It took like foreeeeeever to do, but maybe if I practice hard right now, this will be my chance to raise the quality of my work overall, rather than just lucking into making something decent now and again.

Colours are one of my favourite things to mess around with. They're so complex!

They seem to be a lot of fun, and something you can really let loose on if you know what's up! I'm actually pretty knowledge-deficient in the "color" area, though. Partly I think it's because I left the school I was attending before I got to take any classes on color theory, so I never learned how to pick and harmonize colors or how to approach their saturation, or any kind of useful thing. I'm trying to learn more as time goes on, but progress is incremental! I'm hoping to really get a handle on it someday. 3nodding

A good cheat I use is I keep a massive collection of art inspiration, and then I colour pick the colours they used to see what they've done. Absorb their knowledge razz

I don't know if you have a pinterest but if you do, here's my art inspiration board

Awuh! It's such a good idea! I always forget the validity of a site like Pinterest as a means to collect resources! You have a really good collection with a lot of different styles and tones, that must have taken ages to curate for yourself.

But yes. Yessss. Absorb their abilitiessss. Take for yourself. Hissss. Is good idea.

Hey, since there was some interest in seeing this when it was finished, here ya go - boop!

User Image

It's not spectacular in terms of contrast or anything, but its recipient was pleased! It took a while to finish because in the middle of coloring it I inexplicably forgot what I was doing and how to proceed. It came back after a couple of sleeps, though. whee

Yeah, I love to see a drawing come together and I like to share all the steps of the process. It's one of my favorite things. I probably message a little too frequently when I'm drawing a picture for somebody, but I just want to make sure every step is right!

I do in fact draw avi art when it is requested! But I'm just back here again after a long hiatus so I haven't advertised or anything. I have very definitively not made any bank! I didn't actually get a trade for this finished thing, either, which maybe I should send a message about. rofl

Awh, gosh, that's such a nice thing to say...! Professional... am I finally getting there...? crying

If that gold is really burning a hole in your pocket, I'm honored you think I might be a worthy recipient of it. If there's something you want to see drawn, by all means, hit me up - I'm game to try it!
