[ Guild rules, please follow them ]
New things are in red. Previous new things are in slateblue.

You should be following the TOS on Gaia while you're on Gaia.

Rules
  • Don't god-mode. (biggest section below for anyone that need some brushing up)
✜ This means no overpowered abilities. Things like: control over life and death, control over time, other people's bodies/minds, anything that's just completely unfair compared to everyone else.
✜ Don't loophole the limit by making certain powers more than one thing. It's one thing per slot, so endurance/strength wouldn't be the same thing.
    ✜ Don't kill/harm/auto-hit someone else's character without their consent.
  • Powers are meant to be for fun and mostly used by your character during their daily lives (it defines even what jobs they can have in the world) this isn't supposed to be an action-packed RP. Don't specifically make powers for fighting.
  • Don't make immortal/1,000+ year old characters. At age 201 all characters die.
✜ Characters can remain appearing youthful in their 100s if they're a race that ages slowly but still dies at 200.
✜ The new and only exception is for the demi-god characters
  • Please don't type out your character talking in another language, use italics instead.
  • Suggest threads, don't make them.
  • If one of the vice captains ask you to please remove something from your profile, please do it instead of arguing. :C

We normally ban people who repeatedly break rules, but we don't like to ban people. Mostly this is over: constant god-modding and being disrespectful when asked to change something. If you unintentionally god-mode or make something too OP you won't be in any trouble, but if you do it and then be rude about it, it won't work out.

[ Short summery ]

Taking place during times of war, the realm has been in conflict for the last 20 years. The war involves the kingdom of man and the high elves, with every other nation either remaining neutral and facing possible extinction or bending the knee and joining one of two factions. Everyone caught in between has been burned to the ground and their whole populations enslaved/killed. Elderahn is a neutral and small kingdom that is accepting refugees from around the realm. It's the wealthiest kingdom, where only very few people are poor. In times of war they've remained neutral so they can deal with both nations - selling goods to both sides, profiting massively from the crisis.

For dates, we use Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter instead of months.

Discord https://discord.gg/fY65DtE

[ Guidelines ]
  • Reserve/ask before taking a job.
  • Max of 3 powers per character, this means don't have something that's too versatile such as "conjures all of the elements" or something that does multiple things. One ability, one slot.
  • Additional power slots might be given for participating in events. These bonus powers are colored dodgerblue.
  • Certain powerful types of characters (like demi-gods and genies) will be given only to crew and very active members.
  • Max of 11 characters per person.
  • You can have as many NPCs as you want.
  • Read a few posts before you hop into a thread, so you don't end up interrupting something.
  • If no one posts in a thread for over a week, assume their character's day over/ended.
  • Avoid making a Mary Sue.
  • Certain characters will push the limit of god-modding (demi-gods) but for the most part those will be for crew (we promote people for being active and if they're cool) and very active members but must ask first.

Elderdead RP please follow the same rules as Elderahn. Elderdead is a modern setting zombie apocalypse RP. Set in a world like our own. This means there's no magic, or powers in that RP.

[ FAQ ]

[ Setting ]

Elderahn is found in the southern coast; near the center of the country, bordering the high elf kingdom. It's borders are surrounded by mountains and forests, making getting here difficult but very safe from invaders. It s called often times the "monster kingdom" since it was founded by the monster races (demons, dark elves, etc) and accepts refugees that would otherwise be killed by humans or high elves.

World

The known world is a single continent named Osera. The ocean surrounding it is known as the The Terrestrial Tides. Completely wrapping the ocean is a vast ocean of whirlpools named The Heartless Abyss. There it always storms making sea and flight travel impossible; no one has ever crossed the wall, making it assumed nothing else exists beyond the whirlpools.

Currency

Coins are used for currency in Elderahn. Most exchanges are done using copper or silver coins, there isn't much inflation so things like land would only be a dozen gold and expensive clothes/armors made of rare materials would maybe be a mythril or two. Mythril looks like a galaxy inside. Adamantium is hardly used and rarely accepted in small shops, but their value is held for their rarity and function in most high-end equipment.

✜ Copper = 1
✜ Silver = 50
✜ Gold = 100
✜ Mythril = 500
✜ Adamantium = 1,000

Technology

Technology as we know it doesn't exist in the RP. Instead magic is used for most daily things, and enchanted crystals replaced the use for electricity. Examples are crystals being used to teleport for traveling, as lights in homes, and even to pour water for baths/showers.
✜ Recently we went the more high-fantasy route, so imagine most normal world things exist, but through magical means.
✜ Airships are fine, but no guns. Things get unfair with guns.
✜ Messages are sent using a magical race of intelligent ravens, who track people down and don't tell locations.

The War

For the past 20 years there has been a power struggle for the realm by the humans and high elves. Most other smaller kingdoms have either been forced to bend the knee to one of the kingdoms and fight in their war, or be completely destroyed.
✜ Small towns and tribes are almost always destroyed or taken as slaves.

The Gods & Religion

Each race has their own god, and for the most part they all worship multiple gods. These gods came to the realm, and are the ones encouraging the war to gain dominion of the realm. A God's power comes from how many worshipers they are, the only exception being the forgotten god who made the realm and sleeps in it's core.
✜ The church in Elderahn is known as a place of meditation, and hosts itself to monks.

[ Characters ]

All races are allowed, you're allowed to make up your own even. Godlike races are forbidden, and things that would be godlike in myths are mostly nerfed in this RP.

✜ The dominant races are humans, high elves, and dwarves. With humans and high elves being the oppressors and dwarves keeping to themselves.
✜ Races like orcs, dark elves and goblins are considered dangerous by most.
✜ Demons and angelic races have no divinity or connections with hell/heaven. They're only winged/horned and more magical power than normal races; but have light-bones.

Ages

Characters shouldn't be more than 200 years old. They die at 201. No exceptions.

Powers

This is anything your character can do that's exceptional. For example having a character that can manipulate ice has "ice magic". Each power has to be one thing, so you can't have your character have one slot that's "strength/endurance". Each would be one.

Races

Most races that aren't gods are allowed. But if you play some sort of a demon, don't make them be OP and have some rationality about it. Such as having a demon that's normally just immortal/invincible and then playing them that way.

Racial traits; certain things don't count as powers, but characters have them based on their race. Examples are that orcs are physically stronger and more durable than all of the other races, dark elves can see in the dark, things with wings can fly if they're big enough, and hobbits can run fast without making any sounds.
✜ Don't OP this; don't make up your own character race that's too strong, or try having their racial traits be something ridiculous such as a demon that naturally has super-strength. At most a race can be 1.5x better than a normal human.
✜ Mixed races; for the most part things can mix, but if you pick opposites (an angel and demon, or fire and a water elemental, for example) they do get some cool combinations of powers, but that character is sterile. Imagine it's like a horse mixing with a donkey, two things that can breed but their offspring can't.

Equipment

For the most part characters should have equipment that fits them. They couldn't have things that they couldn't afford unless it's a gift or passed down generations.
✜ Mythril is very expensive, so only the wealthy can normally afford it
✜ Adamantium is the most expensive, and only the super wealthy could afford it
✜ For enchantments, having affinities (ex. a fire sword) is pretty basic
✜ Other enchantments (like teleporting, moving on it's own) would be rarer and more valuable
✜ Characters from a royal family are expected to have mostly mythril and expensive enchantments
✜ Indestructible is the rarest of equipment, and limited to royal families
✜ Max of 2 enchantments per equipment and 1 affinity, sentient/talking doesn't count towards enchantment limit.

Monsters

While races like orcs, demons, and goblins are considered monsters races by humans and high elves, real monsters aren't humanoid and look like what you would imagine a monster is.

If your character is a jerk

If you have a character that goes around picking fights or trying to kill NPCs or other people's characters, guards are allowed to beat the character in a fight without your consent and throw the character into the dungeon for awhile.

✜ You can't go around killing people.
✜ If they kill enough NPCs they will be executed.
✜ Don't assume the guard is incompetent, crime should generally remain low.
✜ If you have a guard, and run into something planned, such as two RPers who decided they want one character to kill the other, bring it up with them first since you might ruin their good time. This is the same for any planned fights between characters.

Jobs

Go through the jobs thread to find your character and a job and PM either of the vice captains or ask in the discord to reserve a slot. You can also RP it out if you want. Certain jobs might be exclusive for older members. So if you join you can't right away make someone in the small counsel, but if you're active for long enough you can. Your character won't be added to the job list until you're somewhat active with them.

Making characters that are royalty

Like having a special job, you must be active in this RP before making a character be a prince/princess from another kingdom. Within Elderahn you can only make the kingdom's lords.

[ Making threads ]

You're only allowed to make a thread for your character's home, but try not to make a whole geographical point for it. Like making their own special mountain instead of living on the hills. Do not make other threads, ask one of the vice captains and we will make it if it seems like we need it.

If you've read the FAQ until this point on the top of your character's profile please add: 'saber is a cat' in white. If you don't your character is automatically rejected.

[ God-modding ]
If you know what god-modding is you can skip this section, but if you god-mode know you were expected not to do this. I really didn't want to write one of these making the RP, but there's more people trying to god-mode than people not. If anyone god-modes at one of your characters please report it to one of the vice captains. If you feel like you know what god-modding is and won't god-mode, please add 'that bites' in white at the end of the last one.

urbandictionary.com
god modding
"God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try.

  • It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission.
  • It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them.
  • It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as Legolas, then you cannot have Legolas say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission.

The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot.

This is a prime example of God Modding:
Player A: Punches Player B
Player B: Dodges attack, grabs Player A and throws him. Player A flies at Player B, who warps behind him and slashes Player A in the back.

[ Types of god-modding ]
Overpowered characters are not the only types of god-modding, they're only the most prevalent kind. While this isn't a complete list, it's the most commonly seen examples of god-modding. Please avoid doing any of the following.

Basic God-modders these are characters that cannot be hit, or simply brush off attacks no matter how strong they are. Pretty much this is the kind of character that no matter what comes out always on top in a fight no matter what the odds are.
x x ↪ They can dodge almost everything
x x ↪ They brush off almost anything
x x ↪ They're impossibly good combatants no matter who they're fighting against

Over-powered the most common type of god-modders. Their abilities are usually so extreme that they can effect other people's characters with no way to block, dodge, or respond to them. Having too versatile powers, or trying to have too many is an example of this. Stopping time, controlling people's minds, or using extremely powerful forces of nature like black holes, are examples of overpowered abilities.
x x ↪ Instant win weapons/abilities, or weapons/abilities that are so unfairly overpowered that they would instantly win.
x x ↪ Armor that makes them invincible or deflects anything
x x ↪ Teleporting people away
x x ↪ Controlling bodies and minds, basically anything that controls someone's character
x x ↪ Whoever they come into contact with, they're always stronger

Auto-hitters this is when a character can do things without a response from another person. Such as having your character hit them in your post without waiting for them to do anything. It also extends to forcibly moving someone's character, or having something happen to them, without their consent.
x x ↪ They put their opponent's reaction in their post
x x ↪ Their attacks are impossible to dodge/home 100% of the time
x x ↪ Have absolute accuracy powers
x x ↪ Move other people's characters/picks them up/does something to them without their consent
x x ↪ This can be as harmless and grabbing their hand and taking them to another thread - always ask first!

Min-Maxers this is when someone 'balances' their character by having a massive but irrelevant weakness and really powerful abilities. Becoming tired when you use your power is a common way this happens, as everyone would get tired from exerting enough energy. Other examples is by having a weakness involving waiting a set period of time before using it again; it doesn't matter if you wait an hour or ten minutes if you instantly win with mind control or teleporting them away.
x x ↪ Having a cool-down for your powers doesn't balance them. It doesn't matter if you take 5 posts or an hour in the RP.
x x ↪ Any weakness that's mostly irrelevant to balance a power.
x x ↪ Example would be that they're weak to an element, the odds of them running into someone with holy or fire is rare.
x x ↪ This includes irrelevant flaws such as they lose a bit of memory or go a bit crazy from their powers.

Matchmodder this is when someone makes a character to specifically match with someone else. Such as they have all of the same interests and always seem to show up when the person they're going after is there.
x x ↪ This is acceptable if you two discussed making a pairing for your characters.
x x ↪ This is only not okay when it gets a bit stalker-ish

Best-there-is this is when someone makes a character that doesn't rely on being over-powered, but instead relies on being so talented and amazing that they simply cannot lose. They either have a ridiculous title to their name, are super geniuses, or simply legendary heroes in the setting. Their known for downplaying the skills or powers of other characters or for overplaying their own powers in an effort to seem superior.
x x ↪ Don't simply make this without knowing anything about the RP
x x ↪ This is a fantasy RP, we will get best-there-is characters, such as legendary heroes and demi-gods, as rare as they are
x x ↪ You must ask permission before making any legendary heroes/royalty, and must be active for awhile first
x x ↪ You must be responsible if you have one
x x ↪ An example is making an entire kingdom for your character to rule without permission

Miss Cleos these are people that use out of character knowledge in-game for their own advantage. Things like knowing someone's backstory, weaknesses, or powers. Any information within the RP that your character would have no way of finding out. Normally this is hidden by the character having "gut feelings" and "hunches" but really involve the player knowing out of character information.
x x ↪ You happen to know what someone's weak to/afraid of/good against
x x ↪ Your character "somehow" found out too much information about someone else
x x ↪ You use anything from someone's profile without your character being told in-game
x x ↪ Normally followed by excuses as to how they know information their character shouldn't
x x ↪ Example is the guard is undercover but your character somehow knows it's them despite them being in disguises

Puppetmasters are people that control someone else's character for them. a subtype of auto-hitters, these specifically add people's reactions into their post. They also do things such as moving characters and doing things to them for them. Things like this require the other player's consent beforehand.
x x ↪ Picking up someone and moving them away is an example
x x ↪ Expressing in your post how someone should feel is another
x x ↪ This includes powers that control how someone would react, such as controlling their bodies, emotions, etcetc.

Shoe elves this is when someone RPs time and actions without the other person present and without asking them/their consent.
x x ↪ An example is determining 'off-screen' actions without their consent, such as they did X overnight during a time-skip

Speedhackers this is when someone RPs absurdly time consuming actions all within a single post.
x x ↪ This is when you have multiple actions in a fight, such as 'they jump up, slash at them, then roll behind them and stab'
x x ↪ It also counts time-skipping without the other person's consent/without asking them first.

Trinities these are characters that gain abilities just in time as they need them with no prior exposure. This is done despite not being in their profile, and no previous indication that they had this ability/skill. You don't have to place every bit of skill into a character's profile, but when it just so happens that your character has the perfect skill/ability for the situation it counts.
x x ↪ This is also when you add/change skills/powers to fit the situation without a prior notice
x x ↪ Also when you develop powers your character didn't have suddenly

Quakers this is when people pick up items that spawn for no apparent reason. Basically this is when your character notices something laying around that no one else has noticed but is extremely useful. If no one else noticed the super-useful thing, if there's no logical reason for the super useful thing to be there, your character shouldn't be finding it either.
x x ↪ Examples would be finding a secret item to impress someone
x x ↪ Or spawning a chest with a really good piece of equipment
x x ↪ This even counts being given something by a random person for no apparent reason
x x ↪ Remember really rare items should be just that: really rare and expensive, your character needs a reason to own one
x x ↪ This counts going to the black market and finding an extremely cheap very special piece of equipment

Magic Hatters this is when a character always seems to have an item for the right situation out of seemingly nowhere even if it wouldn't make sense. The exception is if you have in your profile that your character is carrying useful stuff and even then it should fit what they would have on themselves.
x x ↪ If it's a situation where they need a specific item, but it just so happens they have it in their pocket is an example of this

Metagamers this is having a character response to another character's internal dialogue (without them being psychic) or immediately knowing what the other character is doing, feeling, even if they like you or not. Things that normal people can keep hidden inside well.
x x ↪ This is when your character has hunches of what they're thinking
x x ↪ This can also be using outside information in-game for an advantage
x x ↪ Knowing someone is weak to something for no reason, having secret information about places, anything they shouldn't know
x x ↪ Knowing what other characters are up to without having no way of knowing

Jack-in-the-box this is when a character just so happens to always be in the right place at the right time to hear or do something critical. Characters who always show up right in time wherever another character they like is, or constantly showing up to hear/see something you want them to see.
x x ↪ If you two planned something ahead of time, this is averted

McFlys are people who roleplay outside of chronological order. An example is something happens in another thread, but your character suddenly knows what happened despite not being there.
x x ↪ If your character isn't in the thread, they shouldn't know what happened to another character for no reason

Damsel-modders this is when people make helpless characters that constantly need to be saved or helped in an effort to be the main focus of whatever is going on in the thread. These people use their character's helplessness to derail scenes and draw attention to themselves and to try to force favorable reactions out of other characters by playing the damsel in distress.
x x ↪ We're only okay with this if it's 1. funny, and 2. don't derail the thread to focus on yourself

After this post is a long optional read, it's for anyone that wants extra information about the RP.

It's really boring, I wouldn't even read it and I wrote it.

[ The Realm ]

Created almost 1,000 years ago from the beginning of the RP. A nameless god came into this empty realm, creating the world and the universe around it. They went into a deep slumber for the next 500 years. Throughout those years other gods came into the world, bringing their own people to populate it. In that time kingdoms were established and magic was discovered.

Around the year 550, war broke out between all of the kingdoms. Lead by their gods into battle against each other, during this time many empires fell. Neutral gods and their people, such as gnomes and fairies, mostly went into hiding to avoid the conflicts. This war lasted for 100 years, at the end of it the only kingdoms to have grown from constant battle were the humans, dwarves, and elves. It ended when the nameless god awoke from their sleep and exiled the gods out of the realm. To punish the races he took away immortality from all creatures; and disconnecting them from the divine. This is why characters can look young their whole lives like an immoral, and suddenly die at 201

For the next 300 years the realm was in mostly peace, hostilities still existed between most kingdoms but advancements were made. Crystals were developed to hold enchantments, used as magical technology. Relations in the realm were improving.

20 years before the RP, war erupted again. A power struggle between humans and elves for control of the realm. Small kingdoms took sides to avoid their cities burned, while some kingdoms remained defiant only to be destroyed completely. Small independent groups were starting to be wiped out. Divinity returned to the realm, and people were able to harness holy/dark powers once more. The gods were returning to the realm, in hopes of staring the same war they did 300 years ago for control.

Kingdoms

There are many kingdoms throughout the world, multiples of each kind. While the ruling two are the kingdom of man and elves. The human kingdom is mostly technologically advanced with their use of crystals, while the elf kingdom relies almost entirely on magic.

Not every kingdom is an enemy to the two empires, most have bent the knee to either side and those that haven't are been burned and their entire population killed or sold into slavery. Small kingdoms, and those that remain neutral are mostly attacked or consumed. Peaceful neutral kingdoms are mostly left alone since they don't pose a threat. While any small towns or tribes are completely destroyed or forced into labor for their crown.

Allied Kingdoms & Races

Humans ~
✜ Beast-folk
✜ Giants

High Elves
✜ Angels
✜ Elementals
✜ Fairies
✜ Gnomes

Neutral
✜ Dwarves
✜ Dark elves
✜ Hobbits
✜ Demons (Elderahn)

Other

These are mostly viewed as "savages" and "enemies" to either kingdom, they're mostly hostile to outsiders. It's almost everything not on the lists above. Such as; trolls, goblins, orcs, dark elves. Along with more violent demons like onis, and nomadic giants and beast-folk. There are outliners though that have a hard time in most societies. Most outliners live in either Elderahn or become accepted by humans.

✜ There are 9 major kingdoms in the RP.
✜ Elderahn is the smallest, but also the most wealthy with half of the continent in debt to them.

Class System

Following a mostly medieval class system, ranked in order:

Royalty ~
✜ Kings/Queens
✜ Princes/Princesses

Hereditary Nobility ~
✜ Dukes
✜ Barons

Non-Hereditary Nobility
✜ Aristocrats
✜ Knights
✜ Peasants
✜ Freemen
✜ Serfs

People from the church don't belong in any social class but are well respected by even the highest ranked classes. They also have an aristocrat class, mostly made of the wealthy and favored houses. Some people can become aristocrats by being voted in as a neighborhood's representative much like a senator and can be voted off at any time by their people.

[ Elderahn ]

Elderahn is one of the oldest kingdoms in the realm, and one of the smallest. It was established very early in history but almost completely destroyed during the god wars. Leaving it as a smaller version of itself, and the ruins of old castle walls still remain on the outskirts showing it's one size. They've always remained neutral - which has lead to their downfall in the past, and accept anyone from around the world in this time of crisis. Most villagers don't discriminate against people, but with all of the outsiders moving in from around the realm it's starting to get more hostile.

✜ People born here don't normally discriminate like outsiders
✜ Elderahn is very wealthy as they deal with both sides
✜ Their supplying of both sides of the war is a secret
✜ Elderahn is the demon kingdom, and most of it's population are demons.
✜ Elderahn takes place in the kingdom's capital of the same name, but they have few villages too.
✜ Elderahn sits on top of the largest mythril and adamantium deposits in the realm
✜ There's also a few gold mines.
✜ Their replenishing crystal caverns also supply most of the crystals in the realm.

The Guard

Veteran guard members are known for being elite knights, but with the masses moving in they've been accepting most people that pass the telepath's tests in efforts to have enough people to manage the city. Even then they're usually more skilled than a normal person and passed a rigorous physical test. All guard members are very skilled fighters and should always be considered better fighters than normal characters.

Ruling Class

The kingdom of Elderahn is controlled by the Nevermore's, a family of demon necromancers. They're a neutral party in the war.

Nobles

Elderahn has few lords, most of which work closely with the Necromancer and the king. Nobles mostly have a job under "kingdom" and are called lords by everyone. Other kinds of nobles would be the aristocrats who are either favored houses or have been voted into the counsel by their neighborhood.

[ Laws ]

Most normal day laws will be presented, mostly involving either being thrown into the dungeon for awhile for petty crimes or executed. Remember that doing anything harmless against someone's character without their permission. Such as "-teleports behind u ur ded-" kind of thing is against the rules. Really though, please don't be a creep to random people's characters. I've seen people be creeps before, not here. Unless of course you two plan for the creepiness (within Gaia's TOS).

Ask if you have any questions about certain things, just assume the laws are the same as any first world country. Please don't be a sociopath.

[ Kingdoms ]

Please ask before making anyone in a royal family. For the most part kings/queens are off-limits but princes/princesses are fine. Not every race has their own kingdom. For example, beast-folks and giants don't have a king but follow the Human king instead. They're accepted by humans because of their allegiance. Princes/princesses are ranked in their order in the house. You can also ask to have your character's house be a great house. It would make them into nobles.
