Sakuraba broke into the music scene as composer and keyboard player of the progressive rock band Deja Vu (rock), which released an album, "Baroque in the Future", in 1988. The band later disbanded, and Sakuraba went on to release a solo progressive rock album, "Gikyoku Onsou", in 1990. During his work as video game composer he continued to produce heavily extended arrangements of his compositions.

Late 1989, Sakuraba began work as main composer for Wolf Team, a subsidiary of Telenet Japan. In 1994, former Wolf Team director and composer Masaaki Uno, started working at Camelot Software Planning as coordinator and sound director, employing Sakuraba as composer for all Camelot games and developing games for Sony, Sega and Nintendo. In 1995, Wolf Team developed the breakthrough game Tales of Phantasia for Namco, starting the third most successful video game series in Japan, behind Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Wolf Team continued to develop games for Namco in the Tales series while keeping Sakuraba (and the other Wolf Team composer, Shinji Tamura) as composer, until it morphed into the Namco Telenet joint subsidiary Namco Tales Studio in 2003. In 1995, former Wolf Team director and producer Jun Asanuma as well as Tales of Phantasia writer and programmer Yoshiharu Gotanda founded tri-Ace with financial backing of Enix, creating the Star Ocean series and, again, employing Sakuraba as composer for all games. In 1999, long time Sakuraba sound designer and programmer Hiroya Hatsushiba, former member of Wolf Team and tri-Ace, founded tri-Crescendo while continuing to contribute sound work to tri-Ace games. In 2001, tri-Crescendo started working on Baten Kaitos together with Monolith Productions and with the financial backing of Namco, Hatsushiba as director and main programmer and Sakuraba, again, as composer. Sakuraba is regularly contracted for composing work in other media through his own TEAM Entertainment, a company founded in 1999 to promote and license the work of artists.

In short terms the most Kick a** Videogame Musican of all time.

Wait, Sakuraba did the music for Baten Kaitos, as well?

Crazy. He's both a pianist as well as a guitarist.

I did a report on him... well, sort of a report. It was for Japanese class.

He has an official site floating around somewhere, both english and Japanese. Here's known ones that he's done (for me anyways)

-All of Tales series (Minus Legendia, which is why I don't want to touch it)
-Star Ocean series
-Baten Kaitos, and I'm also assuming the upcoming BKII
-Valkyrie Profile
-Golden Sun 1 & 2
-Mario Sports series (Mario Golf, Tennis, etc)
-...I know there was also something else that people might know, but I forgot.

Basically, he's the go to for 3rd party games as far as music.

Iam preety sure he did Grandia as well all except three since Square-Enix made that one but I chould be wrong and I hated grandia III.

His best work to me was on Star Ocean III it had A perfect mix of

Rock,Piano,Jazz and..Techno sound werid but he made me love that game even more.

I Remeber Now He did Radtia Stories to.

I think his best work is Tales of the Abyss, =P.

When I first heard "Never Surrender", via video, I thought that was a pretty crap battle-theme, especially for how far along in the game it was. Then I finally listened to it fully... He decided to show off his piano skills in that song, which makes him awesome. The song itself is actually really good, you just need to hear it a few times to get the full jist of it.

After Abyss, Phantasia and then Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 I like because it wasn't as much, "ZOMG ROCK!" that he seems to be doing a lot now. It started with Symphonia, showed up in SO3, and I've heard a bit of the Radiata Stories soundtrack... It sounds too futuristic for a medieval type game! That's why it works in Abyss, Regret is the key to saying it's not really a medieval game at all. She has guns, rock works there.
As for Destiny 2, it was in between Rebirth (Which sounds more like an anime OST than a VG one) and Symphonia. A good mixture of both rock, and other interesting stuff... and orchestra hits, =D.

Phantasia was one of his earlier works, so he at least deserves recognition for making it. I'd actually like to hear him remaster some of the tracks, he did a good job at doing that with Eternia's near crap OST.

I loved Never Surrender but the song from Tales of the abyss that Truley shows how much A Genis this guy is while using A piano is Finish the Promise. Destiny twos reminded me of A Rock Version of Golden Suns Soundtrack for some reason Coup De Grace reminds me of the song that plays whene you fight Saturos One on One. SO3 soundtrack was Amazing to me the only song I didnt like was ''Bitter Dance'' Whitch has the stupidest Lyrics ever.

''Work that Body work that body just make sure you dont hurt nobody''

Is frecking playing while your fighting some really Majior Bosses.

Of course everybody is gonna like Symphonia OST since is preety much A bunch of ToP remixes at least for me it was. And ''The end of A thought'' is my favorite One on One fight music in any of the Tales of ___ Games. Radatias Stories OST was very good the song Powerfull Enemy is A good example of his Jazz/Rock work.

Listin to it you self I swer you will be singing it for days.

''Feel the firey sting its A passion that rings...
work that body work thatbody''

Sad thing Is its A very good song just plays during the wrong fights. One time it played was during A Majior fight in the games story and it kinda killed the fight.

Okay, I know some of you people that love this retarded monkey of a composer...KIDDING. I listened to some of his work, and IMO it's pretty hit and miss. Though he does good music, nothing wrong there, he's just not the best music composer out there. I don't know why, but some of his music isn't as great as you may like to think.

His best work was Valkary profile for the PS1. But this is how it stacks up for me.

3rd: Sakuraba-san
2nd: Nobuo Uematsu ((Of Final fantasy and Crono trigger fame))
The best: Marty O Donald ((Of the Halo series))

Don't get me wrong though, Sakuraba does good music, but Marty does awsoem music.

True to that, true to that. Martin O'Donald is teh bestast music prodocer EVAR. (He does a lot of Xbox games, not just Halo. He had a part in most of the Splinter Cell soundtrack, as well.)

I really liked his music for Baten Kaitos (especially the regular-battle one with the unconvetional violin-solo)...Of course I really like his music for the Tales of ____ series, but in some cases (especially in Symphonia) I feel he uses the Synthesized flute/ocarina a little too much...
