I'm not much of one for New Year's resolutions myself, especially not after a psychology class where we discussed the percentage of people who failed to keep their resolution and the average length of time said resolution was kept when it's better for you, long-term, to make a more manageable, ever-evolving, smaller goal for yourself and not because of a changing calendar... but I both babble and digress.

Yes. Anyway! If you're the sort for New Year's resolutions or goals, what are you hoping to do or change this year? (I.e., the usual "get healthy.") If you're not the sort, well, still, do you have any lofty plans for the year that aren't goal-oriented but might just be wishful thinking? (I.e., I'd like to take a vacation of some kind or I'd like to pay off my student loans.) With the New Year, are you hoping to see any changes or additions to LK or are you with the salty crew (which sometimes includes me) that doubt we'll see anything but the occasional bone thrown at us? Is it difficult for you to write "2018" or have you slipped right into the habit?

And, of course, my random question: macarena or cha-cha slide?

My plans for this year are carried over from last year so I'm really not calling them "New Year's resolutions" because they're more long-term goals that exist independent of the changing of years or season. *shrug* And there's that aforementioned dislike of the New Year's shtick. That's a factor.

I'm planning to start copywriting and proofreading in the next month or two, I just want to review a few things, look over the accounting aspect, and try it a little bit (one-two months) before I try to set it up as a viable freelancing business rather than a source of income on the side of my retail job. (That, I am so, so desperately hoping to leave by March. I hate it in a way that words cannot adequately describe.) If that takes off, it is 100% my plan to move out of my parents' house and a few states away because we get along best that way. Then, you know, if possible I'll start overpaying significantly on my student loans in hopes of making those go away as quickly as possible. Not quite fun stuff but "adulting" is what it is.

I am hoping we'll see some updates to LK, though! I'm not expecting much (I'm in the bitter/salty camp) but I'm trying to be better about the optimism thing.

And... macarena or cha-cha slide depends on the day. Today is a cha-cha slide day.

Well, as soon as this semester ends for me, I'm going to do the PITT28 program from Blogilates. I've gained too much weight from stress eating and it's starting to eat on my finances (new clothes every year cause my sizes are growing too fast). Really need to be healthier what with my family history (this is more long term...one step at a time I guess).

Also, I want to minimize spending this year. I went overboard last year and I really need to save money to pay off student loans once I graduate. And save for my dream vacation. Japan and Ghibli amusement park XD (who knows how long I'll have to wait).

Just in general staying positive. It would be pretty helpful with life in general.

PS: Probably the first year where I've had no problems writing the year XD. I guess I was really done with 2017 hahahaha

Good luck man. Adulting is...challenging. I want to move out of my parents too. They can be so stifling.

Vacation? You have any idea where you want to go?

I'm so excited for you as you launch a new business venture! Take advantage of all those business tax credits if you guys have them like we do (although I suspect Trump would likely encourage that sort of thing).

I've heard of Blogilates, tried one of their beginner routines with a friend once. It felt really good! I totally failed to keep it up, but I definitely recommend it xd

I had to look up PITT28 to see what it was, but it looks like a pretty great program. I'm actually halfway tempted to try it myself since I actually enjoyed pilates when I did it in high school. I hope you have a good time with it! (Or, at least, enjoy the results even if not the actual program itself.) Better posture in addition to a flat stomach or, goodness, abs, would be nice.

And, truly, good luck with the student loans! Budgets are a difficult thing and finding a balance between saving money and still having fun is something I haven't quite figured out yet. Maybe you'll have better luck. wink

And... oooh. I didn't know there was a Totoro-themed Ghibli park being planned! That sounds like it'll be an amazing vacation even if it is a few years away. Me? I'm very much a homebody. My idea of the perfect vacation is staying home, reading a few books, trying some new recipes, and generally avoiding contact with the outside world. Still. I think someday I'd like to visit Ireland and/or Scotland.

(Also, yes! 2018 is weirdly easier to write than 2017. I actually had to ask a coworker if it really was 2018 and not 2019 because I said it way too easily.)

Taxes and accounting are what I'm looking into now, actually! I was never bad at math but I haven't done anything truly challenging in such a long time that it's a little intimidating and borderline embarrassing how inept I feel about it. redface (I think tax credits are likely discouraged or nonexistent, too, but I'm trying to stay positive about. It isn't my natural state. Right now I'm just happy they decided not to remove student loan deductions since 90-95% of my income goes to my loans right now.)

Ooh. Good luck getting a job! I'm sure you've mentioned it but I'm forgetful, so: what are you looking to get a job in? Are you just looking for a starter something/part-time something to get your family off your back or will it hopefully be the start of a career?

Water is also good for headaches and migraines if you deal with those ever. Supposedly. For some people. Are you a plain water person or do you think it'll be easier to drink more if you infuse it with something?

Cha-cha slide-- aka, the "easy day" in elementary school gym class

Oh no, don't worry about it! Taxes are notoriously difficult, especially business tax. I've been thinking there may even be some kind of young/new entrepreneur aid program sponsored by the government that might interest you...

Thanks! I'm actually really not ambitious career-wise, which is probably something that I should never mention at a job interview lol At this point, I'd probably accept anything, entry-level or even part-time. It's not really about getting my family off my back. Yes, that can be annoying, but truth be told, I really do need to, and want to, start helping out more at home financially.

Oh I like plain water. It's not the taste of it that's keeping me from drinking more. I just forget to eat and drink sometimes xd But this year, I'm trying something new. I've set hourly alarms on my phone, which I have with me almost all the time, so I now get hourly reminders to go get some water to drink lol

Ooooh that cha-cha slide! I vaguely remember doing that in elementary school xD Thanks for the link!

And I love your new Swampy Rosepea! I don't really understand the new swampberry fad, but hey, that looks pretty good on rosepea ;D Now, where dem free mud-based facials at? ninja

I'll have to look and see, thanks for the idea! I'm not sure what kind of incentives there might be.

And, yeah, that makes sense. Helping out at home is a good reason. Although you're definitely right: I wouldn't mention the lack of ambition. But on the other hand... I have absolutely no ideas for how to turn that around and make it sound like something they absolutely have to have in a candidate.

I'm hoping you're also setting reminders to eat, then! eek I'd think that sort of thing would work, though. You probably won't even need the reminder to drink something after a while.

Aw. Thanks! I'm not too big a fan of swampberry either but it seemed weirdly appropriate for a dragon. Plus, when I'm badgering the staff for recolors and alchemy recipes for kin eggs, I might as well have something to prove my point. (And I was bored. Mostly that.)

Muddy facials are over in the spa room, but last I saw there was an earth-bender turning hers into a monster face so you might want to wait a while. I really didn't think anyone read those little blurbs I put there. Heh.
