Karone wasn’t quite sure what had drawn her to the library, perhaps it was the fact that Merlinite was in the basement, locked against the world for his own protection…a secret that she carried with some reluctance. She idly wondered if he were all right and even thought about just powering up and breaking down the door to talk to the dragon.

She paused as she saw a very round cat sitting near the door and for a moment she was confused…until she noticed the harness and idly realized that this must be a guardian cat…and perhaps that was the reason nobody had noticed Merlinite’s hiding place. Well.

Slipping deeper into the shadows, Karone left for a while, returning close to an hour later, pleased that the cat was still at its post. She felt the familiar feeling of darkness descend upon her and picked up the small bag she had went out to go and get, stuffing it away into subspace. Quietly, she stepped out and moved towards the cat.

“Hello there, kitty cat. Would you like to come and play for a little while?”

Cavansite hoped her aura was felt. Hoped that Camelot would get worried…if he were around that is, and she hoped that the Dragon would feel it too…she wasn’t gone. She wasn’t a sweet little thing who accepted the orders and demands of a traitor.

But…at the same time, she wasn’t going to hurt this cat. He was too fat and cute, and she hoped that she wasn’t frightening him. “I mean, it’s not as though you have a choice, you’re going to come with me now, but I promise,” She leaned down and picked the thing up in one swift motion.

“You’ll enjoy this.”

And then she was gone, teleporting to a park a few miles away, right into the top of the jungle gym. “Hey there, cutie. You have something that I want. Something that I want really badly.” Removing the bag from her subspace pocked she put it beside her and looked at the cat. “Show me those toe beans.”

Hadaya was sitting 'guard' in the library, as he often was, when Camelot was taking Dogby home at the end of his shift. Or rather, Tony was, since he was careful about not being powered around his home. Sometimes he had his family come to get Dogby, and often Nate took her home before going to his night job, but tonight she demanded a walk with her real dad, and Tony had to relent.

Dogby could be so spoiled!

Sitting in his comfy, brand new kitty bed, Hadaya stretched his paws in front of him and idly glanced at his food bowl to see if it had refilled itself. It had not, lacking the magic or super science to do so, and he sighed woefully. Camelot had been gone for what, ten whole minutes? The guardian cat was going to starve before he could go in and sit on Merlinite's bed instead of out here in the cold.

He looked up when he felt the chaos order, pulling a curious, but cautious face. He hated chaos auras, but wasn't this the one that Camelot brought in to Merlinite's room before? So maybe he was safe... except she picked him up and teleported him away from everything even remotely comfortable and he immediately started to panic.

"Put me down, put me down!" Hadaya hissed (as best as he was able to: he was actually not very good at growling or hissing, and it never sounded quite right when he tried), flailing his short limbs as desperately as his wiggly, but tubby, body allowed. "You can't have my starseed, Camelot's going to... my toes? You want to eat my toes?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Cavansite hadn’t really expected him to freak out this much, but he was really cute...and she didn’t really...mind the fact that he was freaking out. Quietly she reached down and began rubbing his tummy even as she opened the bag of catnip and sprinkled some on him.

...Because that was totally how it worked, right?

“I don’t want your starseed, and I don’t want to eat your toes...I just want to poke them and squish them for a little while. No big deal, Camelot won’t be angry, I’m not going to hurt you. You’re too cute and round for that, Cat.”

The General paused and then emptied the rest of the catnip bag, pouring some of it onto Hadaya, and the rest around him, just wanting...to watch what happened.

Catws were really cute and even though she had never owned one...she did like them. “Besides, don’t you think if I wanted to hurt you, that I would have just taken you somewhere and had you corrupted? That would be a lot easier than trying to keep you still so I can squish your cute little toes...stop squirming, cutie.”

Hadaya was easily soothed, his purring starting mostly against his will when she started rubbing his tummy. He had a big tummy, after all, and the fur on it was very soft. It was a very easy target for anyone aiming to cuddle him into submission.

Darn his inability to resist affection.

"Well... if you're not going to hurt me..." Hadaya said thoughtfully, rolling around a bit and rubbing his head against Cavansite's chest affectionately. "What is this stuff that you're putting on me?"

He had never really gotten to experience cat n**, but he found himself eager to sniff it and get very close to it. He started rubbing his head against the ground, then rolled over onto his back and wiggled around in the cat n**. It was very soothing and it smelled really nice to him.

"Oh, this stuff is nice!" He said, kicking his back feet, though they were so short and stubby they did not go too far. Her comments on corrupting him, though, made him stop his rolling and look up at her with the saddest little face a cat could ever make. "Do you really do that to people? Make them be bad even if they don't want to be? Camelot said that changing sides should always be a choice..."

He looked sorrowful, but almost did a barrel roll through the cat n** mostly without thinking about it.

At his purrs, Cavansite utterly lit up, feeling as though she had just won the lottery…and his reaction to the catnip…well it was as precious as she had hoped that it would be. “I’m glad that you like it, now I know to carry some around with me when I go out, hm? Since you enjoy it so much.”

His sad eyes made her pause and for a moment the General felt torn. She didn’t…normally just…corrupt people against their wills. Not often, at least…but…

Growing quiet, her mood turning to something a little more somber, Cavansite continued to rub Hadaya’s belly. “I don’t…know. That seems fair though.
Would he…begrudge someone who willingly wanted to corrupt? Would he allow that? Or would he try to stop them? He seems kind of…well, almost fanatical about not…chaos. I mean…in his views on how chaos is poison…has he ever allowed someone to just…corrupt? If they wanted it?”

…Perhaps the questions were too deep for a cat that was clearly feeling the effects of catnip but…now that they had come into her mind…she wanted answers.

Just what kind of a man was Camelot? He extended a hand of friendship to those he thought could be ‘saved’…but what of those who wanted to leave his side and corrupt?

“…You think he’ll come after you? Or will you just be mine forever?”

Hadaya nuzzled up to her, trying to get closer to her than was probably physically possible. His purrs deepened in an effort to soothe her,
feeling the worry and confusion radiating off her. Or at least, he thought he did. He also thought he could feel the universe petting him, so maybe he was a little off his rocker. But it felt pretty good!

Except he was also sad, because she was sad, and the conversation was sad. His ears drooped, and if he had a tail it would have sagged as well. Instead, he dropped his butt to the floor.

"Camelot doesn't believe in forcing anyone to do anything. He had some loss... something sad he doesn't talk about before I came around, but he says that choice is important. I don't think he would hate anyone, even if they changed sides, but he would be sad for them. I know he would fight for them. But not against them."

Hadaya had never seen Camelot want to hurt anyone. The angriest he got was with Painite, but he said she had done some horrible things, and would keep doing them. Still... she wasn't dead, so maybe he wasn't as mad at her as he said. Hadaya was pretty sure he was all powerful and could do whatever he wanted, so killing someone wouldn't be all that hard, right? Not that Hadaya could ever see himself doing something so terrible, either.

"I don't think it's so bad, just wanting to be friends with everyone," he said innocently, rubbing his head against her reassuringly. "But he'll probably come find me. He worries about me. He's very nice. But so are you!"

“Hm.” Cavansite wasn’t sure what to say to that, and quietly she scooped the cat into her arms, hugging him close for a moment before laying down and resting him atop her chest. “Well…whatever. I’m glad you think I’m nice. But I’m not. I’m a monster, and if I had any good sense, I would be taking you now to corrupt you. Honestly.”

She didn’t move though, either didn’t want to or just…couldn’t. She felt as though she had no energy right now, like the air had suddenly gotten too heavy to breathe and her eyes felt almost as if they were burning a little. She wasn’t about to cry though. There was nothing worth crying about. Especially nothing worth crying about in front of this stupid cat but…

Cavansite reached for the cat, taking one of his paws into her hands and squished his toes. It felt as good as she thought it would.

“Well. I’m sure this will make him hate me, so. Good. I’m not a good person, I don’t want to be a good person. As soon as he sees that, well. Then the sooner we can move on with our lives. You know that I’m engaged to Painite, right? He hates Painite. But I love her. She’s my everything so…clearly I can’t be anything but a monster. And…” She squished his toes again, closing her eyes after a moment.

“…And maybe I will take you back to corrupt you after this. What are you going to do about it? That catnip has you higher than a kite, Cat. I have you just where I want you.” There was no force behind her words, no fire. Just fatigue.

"You are not a monster. And even if you were, I've met some really great monsters. Camelot says that what you are on the outside and what you are on the inside can be different."

Hadaya loved the hug and cuddled against her as she moved to lay down. He nuzzled her as best he could, rolling around a bit to get comfortable before settling down and purring loudly. He was kneading with his little paws gently, though trying not to use his claws since he knew most people did not like tiny scratches.

He curled his wrist a bit when she squished his toes, as if trying to hold her hand with his little, stubby paw.

"Camelot won't hate you. I don't think he hates anyone, not really. I think he's a little different on the inside, too." He watched her, scooting up closer to her face. He looked down at her with his big, round, hopeful eyes. If it was possible for him to smile, the little kitty did so, rubbing his head across Cavansite's chin. "You won't hurt me. I can tell. So even if you are a monster, we can still be friends."

For a moment, Cavansite couldn’t speak. She had to swallow several times and even then she felt the dreaded tears actually welling in her eyes this time.

This had been a mistake. A foolish mistake that she had no idea of when she first set out to do this.

Quietly she squeezed the cat again, enjoying the feeling of his paw against her hands, enjoying the feeling of all of it.

He didn’t think her a monster. Even though she protested that she was. Blustered that she was going to take him and corrupt him…turn this sweet creature into one of darkness with the most selfish of motives and…

And finally the General sat up, teleporting back to the area near the library and quietly putting the cat back on the ground near the door to Merline’s hiding spot.

It was time to stop hanging around these people. They were making her go soft…and that just wasn’t an option. She was Cavansite. A mighty General of the Negaverse, and that was what she would remain. There was no coming back from this…she was a monster, and she would remain a monster. Gladly.

“Don’t tell anyone about this, Cat. Do you understand me? I will corrupt you the next time we meet if I’ve found out that you’ve talked. Or perhaps I’ll just stab you instead. It would be quicker.”

…More painless, if she were going to be honest. This ball of fluff wouldn’t want to be corrupted…he had too big of a heart to do anything bad.

Hadaya was shocked when she teleported with him, enjoying the cuddle and just wanting to offer her comfort. He could tell that something he did had upset her, which was the absolute worst thing for him to ever do and he was torn inside for being responsible for such a sad look on her face.

He wanted her to smile. More than that, he wanted to be one of the reasons she smiled. She was such a nice person, even though she was on the Negaverse, but she was so sad.

Her threat made his ears droop backwards, and he watched her with a pathetic, sad look on his squishy little face. He looked down at the floor, knowing he'd done something bad.

He would take it back if he could.

"I won't tell anyone, but I'll miss you. I hope you come back and talk again. I'll do a better job, I promise. You can squish my paws all you want. I know you don't want to eat them now." He purred softly as he moved to rub her legs. She was going to disappear again, he knew it, so he wanted to make sure he said goodbye properly.

"I'm sorry if I made you upset. Please don't hate me. I'm so sorry." He pressed his head against her leg, just leaning his weight against her.

Cavansite was quiet, though leaned down and ran her fingers through his fur one last time. “We’ll see, Cat. But honestly, it would be a lot better for you if I don’t come back and talk to you again.”

Taking a step away, the General held back a sigh. Honestly…she didn’t really…want to leave. She didn’t want to just let this cat go…she could have a guardian cat all to herself. Axinite would be willing to corrupt him, she was sure…and he would be such a credit to the Negaverse…all guardians were, right?

Closing her eyes, Cavansite forced herself to leave. Forced herself to teleport away from Hadaya. For his own good…if nothing else. He would be safer now. He would be able to go home and…protect that stupid traitor now. He wouldn’t be in danger of her spear or in danger of a hand clasped around his fuzzy little starseed.

…though, she supposed that a cat’s starseed wouldn’t…or couldn’t be much different than a normal one…but…

Tonight wasn’t the night to find out.
