When they were away from the library…without even so much as a goodbye, Cavansite felt as though all of her anger was gone. Hadaya had rubbed against her and she would have honestly liked to have stayed and talked…worked things out but…

But maybe later. Definitely later.

She drew Painite close again and kissed the other General with a mixture of passion and desperation that did nothing other than make Cavansite feel tired. Tired and defeated.

Quietly, she teleported the both of them back to their house and let her powered form drop. “Sit down, power down, and I’ll go get the first aid kit, okay? Then…I want to talk about what happened. About who I have to run through with my blade.”

Not that…

Not that she really wanted to do such a thing…not…not really. Maybe a little. Depending on who it was.

Camelot though, she wanted nothing more than to give him a great slap on the face…to tell him that he was an idiot and deserved to…well not to be stabbed but.

But still. There had been no need to be so forward.

Karone left the room for a few moments as she thought, returning with a large box and a large glass of water, pressing the glass into Gently’s hand. “Drink all of this, my love. Drink it all and let me take a look at you. Before we get to the annoying things—are you okay? Physically, I mean. How badly are you hurt?”

Painite sat for a long moment before realizing they were home. She let out a soft whimper as Cavansite kissed her, clinging to her desperately and not letting go even as she moved to go to the other room. She eventually let her go, though, and dropped her powered form. Immediately, she felt worse, and all the pain she had been ignoring surged forward.

Her nose was split over its bridge, blood running down from both sides, and her lip was split from being punched. She had a dark black eye where the shield had struck her, along with a gash across her temple. That side of her face was swollen and angry. Her should on that side was dislocated, as well, and that last punch from Camelot had rattled her ribs a bit.

"I'm okay. A little bruised I guess," she mumbled. She hated losing fights, but this one had been particularly difficult. "Her name is Hyperborea. She's a knight I've fought a few times. Every time I get close to killing her, Camelot shows up, or someone else swoops in to help her."

Except this time, she had the chance. She had two chances, actually, and she'd failed both times. She stabbed her in the back, literally, yet had not aimed for anything vital despite knowing what would hurt the most. She had the chance to stab the knight in the face, and she hesitated. She let Camelot stop her.

"Maybe I'm getting old," she grumped, trying to smile. She seemed a little more put together now, though, than she had been before. She took the glass of water with shaking hands, sipping at it.

Kneeling next to Gently, Cavansite began wiping up some of the smaller injuries and bandaging what she could. The shoulder though, she wasn’t quite sure how to go about fixing that…perhaps she would have to go out hunting for a few starseeds in order to speed up that little issue.

When she heard the name of the one who had done this, she stiffened and scoffed loudly. “That stupid b***h. The Cosmos knight, right? The little one who thinks she’s the almighty gift from the Gods or something.”

Well, at the very least she wouldn’t have any issues with getting revenge on that stupid child. The foolish child who thought she was invincible. “We can destroy her together, my love. If you want. I don’t like her at all, I think she’s a foolish girl who deserves to have a few spears thrust into her. Hell, we could just take her into the Negaverse itself so nobody could rescue her…we could plan a whole to-do if you wanted. I know I wouldn’t mind.”

Reaching up, the woman gently touched the injured shoulder, sighing. “How do you want to go about fixing this, Gent? I can go hunting for some starseeds if you want, I know you rely on them a lot for healing…I have some pretty strong pain medication here though if you want to just take some of those and I can pop it back in…whatever you’d like, lover.”

With a sigh, Karone sat on the couch next to her fiancé and rested against her. “…You got a little…unhappy with him talking about purification, hm? That’s…really not a good topic with you, is it, honey?”

Usually, Gently was not afraid of using some starseeds or energy to heal herself. She knew that it could be dangerous, could expose her to too much Chaos, but she never heeded those warnings. Except in this moment, she thought, maybe, it would be a better idea to not use them. She was more than twisted enough, or so she had been told.

"Just pop it back into place. I'll be fine. Pain's in my name, remember? We'll figure out what to do about that knight... some other time."

She looked exhausted. Physically. Emotionally. She was drained and felt like a dead weight. Empty, except for a few, ringing thoughts that kept rattling around in her mind. She instinctively cuddled toward Karone, thankful for her help and patience.

"I just got tired of hearing about it. They both started at me, preaching their dogma. At least Camelot has a little tact, but I'm tired of his stupid face. I just want to know who I am, and go back to being certain about it. I used to just be Painite, you know. Gently was gone, for a long time. I didn't have anything except the negaverse, and didn't try to. Now it's a little different. The only thing I have is you. It's all I want. I don't care about the negaverse, or purifying, or killing, or hunting. I wish everyone would just stop talking about it."

She hugged herself with one arm, wincing a bit but feeling a little better for confiding in her love.

"I hate feeling like other people understand me better than I do. I don't know if they're right or not, and that scares me. I get angry when I get scared."

With a sigh, Karone nodded and with a moment’s hesitation, reached up and popped the shoulder back into place, wincing as she did so. “Sorry love.”

When the shoulder was back in place, she pulled Gently against her chest and began to pepper the top of her head with kisses, wishing that they could do more to ease the pain, but pulling a small container from the first aid kit, she withdrew a few pills and held them out to the other woman. “Here. Pain killers then. Take them with your water, Gent. I don’t want you hurting. I don’t like it.”

If she didn’t want to talk about revenge right now, then Karone wouldn’t talk about it. She would take care of it herself though. She would do what had to be done…she had to.

“You can be who you want to be, Gently. You might have been Painite for a long while…but that isn’t the only person you are. You are Gently. You’re a wonderful lover, the sweetest fiancé that anyone could ask for…you’re the person that I look up to the most in the entire world and…” She placed another kiss on the top of Gently’s head. “And you’re you…my soul mate. Don’t listen to them. They don’t know you like I do…and they’ll never know you like I do. They’re stupid and it’s going to bite them in the a** one day. You can’t force someone to change…especially us. We’re stubborn fools, or at least I think that we are…I know I am. The more they try to force me into doing something…the less likely I’ll do it…”

Karone smirked for a moment. “…For me I think it comes from dealing with bratty high schoolers all day long, you know? The girls are always trying to change my mind about things, but…the more they try, the more pissed off I get.”

Her fingers slid down Gently’s side and sighing, Karone snuggled closer. “You’ll always have me. I promised you that. No matter what side we choose…or even if we don’t choose any side and just move. We could do that too. We could just leave the city and go start life somewhere else. There’s dozens of options. Nothing is ever going to be just black and white, Gent. I understand that.”

Gently bit her teeth together hard to keep from yelling out loud, shutting her eyes and letting the agony of having her shoulder set move through her. She was not a stranger to it, being in fights for as long as she had been, but it certainly did not get any easier. She took a breath, pale, and accepted the pills. She put them in her mouth, then reached for the glass, finishing the water with the painkillers.

Sighing, she nuzzled her head against Karone's shoulder, hugging her with her good arm.

"The two of us, alone together on some tropical island some where. That sounds nice. Perfect weather all the time, warm and sunny. You with the perfect tan and a body to die for," she chucked dreamily, lacing her fingers with Karone's. She used to always want to be her own boss, to lead her own side of the fight. Now, she would have been happy without the fight at all, and sharing her life rather than leading.

"Though, you're pretty much perfect already. I wouldn't change a thing about you. I just want you to know that the things I do for the negaverse... the things everyone knows me for... I know I've made it seem like I could hurt you like that, but I never could. I never would. I know I've made mistakes, like with... you know. Turning Merlinite into a youma... but I wouldn't... I can't do that to you."

And that was a lot of where her fears stemmed from. If she lost control. If she forgot herself, and her love and promises. If she hurt the one person that made her feel like a real human being, and not just a mindless drone. She was not sure if she was trying to convince herself with her speech, or Karone, but she felt it needed to be said.

“If we were the only ones on the island, then there would be no need for even having tan lines.” Winking, Karone chuckled and bit Gently’s ear playfully.

It would be their own personal nude beach. Utter perfection.

As the conversation began to grow a little more serious, she sighed and tightened her grip on Gently. “I know you couldn’t hurt me. What happened before was an accident, and it won’t happen again, you promised me that it won’t, and I trust you more than I trust anyone else…so don’t worry about that.”

Gliding her fingertips along the arm that was wrapped around her, Karone sighed, her shoulders slumping just a little. “But…but Gently…if you are afraid of it…just remember that we’re not trapped in the Negaverse. We aren’t puppets. We are strong…and headstrong women who can do what they want with their lives. We can quit. We can purify. So long as we stay together…then we’ll be happy. You are the only thing in my life that I need. Without you…well.”

She swallowed hard and gave a hallow sounding laugh. “Without you I’m miserable and I feel like I’m nothing. I don’t want to ever have to think of a time where I’ll be without you. So…please.”

There was nothing that she was really asking for…or at least Karone couldn’t figure out what she was asking with the plea…but it just…
She couldn’t stop it from slipping out too.

"This is why I love you. You're smarter than me," she grinned, thinking a full body tan would do just fine. It was more fun to think about than the other side of the conversation, but still. Both seemed just as important, in a weird way.

She nodded her head, but wasn't sure she could broach the idea of actually considering purification. At least she did not fly into an immediate rage at the mention of it, at least.

"Well, at least we know that where ever we are, we're only whole if we're together. I guess that explains the marriage thing, huh? I'm okay with that. I won't ever be any place that you aren't. That's not just a promise, it's a vow. A little early, maybe, but it's there."

She would be more careful. Pick fewer fights. Certainly not tangle with Camelot again unless he really asked for it. She was sure he would, as he was just that insufferable. Being reckless and getting herself killed would be the worst kind of separation. And of course, she would always keep an eye on Karone, or Cavansite, to make sure she remained safe. Happy. Gently just had to learn how to put another person first again, after so long.

But it was something she really wanted to do.

"Let's go to bed, babe. It's been a ridiculous night."

“Not smarter than you, I just have to plan a lot, no big deal, lover.” Karone grinned, feeling a lot more relaxed the longer the conversation went on. The topic was…getting easier to discuss…and it seemed as though Gently was more trusting and was starting to realize that Karone wasn’t going to ever just up and disappear. That wasn’t her desire or her way of living.

With a kiss to the other woman’s cheek, Karone nodded happily. “It’s never too early for a vow. Wedding vows or just vows of love just between us.”

Standing, she held her hands out to Gently, still smiling. “Bed sounds fantastic. Though…” There was a glint in her eye that didn’t often make an appearance, especially not after difficult talks like this.

“I’m not quite sure that I want to sleep…”
