THE WORLD IS CHANGING

Everyone had such hope, hope that finally after years and generations of acceptance that someone would find a way to make a change. Sure, they couldn't control the weather, but maybe they could come together, Kaha'iko and Menehune, brother and sister, to figure out how to save their drying land. The passion that left the mountain top spring meeting resulted in more searches down drying rivers, more digging through thick swamps, more desire to simply find a way to save their home.

It seemed like the passion drove them to more and more dead ends.

Eventually, months went by and they all knew that it was a lost cause, the same gradual acceptance of their fate setting back in. They didn't want to give up, but they were raised on the idea that slowly, their world was drying and no matter what they did or who they prayed to, nothing would change. High atop the cliffs, where they waited at the Noelani Spring, the elders of both races were worried. They saw the defeat of their people, the resignation to just accept what was, was. It pained them, to see their future fade with the hopes of their people, unable to do anything about it.

Emere was furious, furious of his failure. As he ranted to those who would listen, clinging desperately to an idea, any idea at all, he missed the words of a young child near the edge of the cliffs. Where everyone looked down, this child looked up at the sky, where thick heavy clouds drifted over the sun. A dark shadow began to cover the land, and the elders paused in their ramblings to turn and look at the rainclouds that shadowed them.

"I've...I've never seen clouds that dark..." Ruihi whispered, awed before a flash danced between the arches in the sky. Suddenly, the ground shook with the echo of thunder, and everyone jumped in their skin, "...this...what is this storm?"

They soon received their answer in the form of a storm that brought in weeks of heavy rain. Sometimes, it was so strong that everyone needed to hide inside, under water, or under the canopy. It was difficult to travel, and many just accepted they would be stuck where they stood. Everyone was anxious, nervous, and a little scared of what this was. To go from a dry day to a month-long monsoon... no one knew what this meant.

Eventually, the storm died down into a drizzle, the clouds still heavy in the sky. The waters were filled beyond their banks, and it felt like the land was swallowed by water. For the first time in over 300 years, the lakes and rivers were back to their original depth, which could only mean one thing.

"I'm going." Emere stated firmly, "I'm going to see firsthand how far our rivers go."

He believed that this was a blessing or a sign to explore south, to see if those rumors long forgotten of sisters and brothers still lingered near the endless lake. Everyone had been directed to let none travel down the rivers until the elders could confirm their safety, and patrols were stationed at every turn. Emere was allowed to pass, along with his small band of travelers, and soon they disappeared into the distance.

The inhabitants of Kahakina were left waiting, waiting for an answer to what this all meant for their future on this land.

OUT IN THE RAIN
Roleplay Event

RP format only!
Worth 5 Growth Points
RP minimum is 7 posts

[The world is changing and you don't want to miss it! We wanted to provide you with some additional prompts to help inspire your reactions to what is happening in the world. By no means do you need to respond to the prompts below, but we hope for those looking for some 'solo fuel' or RP settings can use these to your advantage.]

The rains were endless, the sound drowning out the normal peaceful noises of your homeland. You haven't seen any of the land-dwelling fauna in months, and have been all but forced to stay below the surface of the water to not be swept away in the storm. Thankfully, you were made to live and breathe below the surface, but you missed the view of the land. It was all but depressing for most of those around you, and very few found the rain exciting. Since it seems like it is never going to let up, it's about time you ventured out at last. What do you do? Do you try and find some food, or maybe hunt down one of your friends? Do you find yourself in danger, or maybe in a place you never had access to before? Take some time to explore, but be careful because the rains have caused strong floods and even stronger waters, meaning traveling even a few hundred feet away could spell danger.

Roleplay Event

RP format only!
Worth 5 Growth Points
RP minimum is 7 posts

The ongoing downpour of rain over the area has made things harder for the people of Kahikina. The influx of water has made sure that the underwater currents have sped up in spots and the elders of both areas have been warning the others to be careful when out; you wouldn’t want to get caught up in these dangerous water spirals! But as rotten luck would have it, something of yours has dropped into the current! It could be something precious or useful to you, but you know you should go get it back. What do you do? How do you get the item back? Is it damaged now, or stuck somewhere hard to get? Does it take teamwork, or does your friend just get in the way?

And now, after weeks of preparation, the first group has been permitted to travel down the river and to the reef. You have taken the time to join the group, and are now on your way south. What are your thoughts about the opportunity to meet the two elusive groups of the saltwater people? What do you expect to find once you arrive, having never been to the reef or ocean? What are your feelings about the opportunity, and your impressions when you finally arrive after the weeks of travel down the river? Walk us through your first experience traveling south to meet the Haukea and Moakai.
