So, I picked the first dvd at anime detour (5 days early, hogod!<3)
I'm a little dissapointed. Looks like bandai didn't put a lot of work into making this series look nice. It's gotten little advertising, and the dvd itself looks like lazyness. The box isn't that nice looking, (orange with one pic, blah), the subtitles are poorly done (as in the actual physical subtitles. Translation is fine, but so hard to read, near impossible on the songs), and the credits are left in Japanese until they run an extra time at the end.
There is some good news though, they kept the original Japanese covers (probably lazyness, but it looks nice), they get MAD props for making the tshirt that it comes with size L instead of XL, and the english VA's really.. aren't that horrendous. Some of the voices are a little off, but some are alright too. Natsuki's isn't too bad, just some shakey begining acting. I like Haruka's myself, she keeps calling Yukino an idiot rofl .
For some reason they made the b*****d nun have the most fitting voice.
AND.... Shizuru DOES have a southern accent. Oh dear. But it doesn't sound that bad, it really does suit her. Just a little weird on ears accustomed to Kyoto-ben. (: The voices are decent, but I'll probably stick to Japanese myself just because their voices are part of the characters I grew to like.
Thoughts? biggrin
Carol-Anne Day - Mai Cheryl McMaster - Kuga Caitlynne Medrek - Mikoto Leda Davies - Shiho Melanie Risdon - Shizuru Katie Rowan - Mashiro Lori Barnes-Smith - Haruka Morgan Partridge - Yukino Annika Odegard - Akira Allyson June Smith -Yukariko Wendy Morrison - Fumi Mariette Sluyter - Midori Melanie Risdon - Yoko Marcy Lannan - Nao Hazel Forman - Chie Jayna Mitchell - Aoi Maizun Jayoussi - Miyu Morgan Patridge - Akane Jordan Schartnet - Tate Cole Howard - Takumi Randall Wiebe - Sakomizu Graham Ko - Nagi Ethan Cole - Reito Paul Cowling - Joseph Greer Brett Bauer - Kazuya Scott Roberts - Takeda Victor Atelevich - Yamada
... and has ANYONE heard of these people? o__o

I really haven't heard of any of these people, which is weird since I like to follow the anime dubbing scene, wanting to be a voice actor myself.
I suppose I owe it to this great series to actually buy the DVD once it becomes available to me.

I'm watching the DVD now. Lemme see, I'm having trouble getting used to the voices, and there are a few things I had problems with. Otherwise, I guess it wasn't bad.
I know in episode 3 after Mai talked about risking her life to defend those she loves (her misunderstanding) Nagi's response didn't seem right. Too quiet I think... like he should have been talking loudly like in the original dub (since he was talking across a battlefield.)
In episode 4, they added a scream when the wind blew up Natsuki's skirt... or at least I didn't remember it and it felt very wrong since she didn't react until it showed her again.
Actually, I think Nagi's voice actor was a bit emotionally detatched from his character in general. It actually reminds me specifically of Yu's english voice actor from Final Fantasy Unlimited. (For that anime, the first dub I started with was the english dub and I didn't like it...)
Also, I just remembered the annoyance of them having to pronounce Kagutsuchi one syllable at a time. I mean, sure, even in japanese it doesn't sound like it just rolls off the tongue. It just... I dunno, I guess I miss the old dub.

(: So that part actually made me laugh cause it sounded right. Nagi's voice sucks, it's too deep and all wrong in general ):

I just checked and yes, there was a scream, but it was about a billion decibels lower. (Exaggeration, of course.) Hmmm...

SHOCK to hear that accent on her. XD There's a few funky times, her VA could've gone a liiiittle lighter on the accent, but not bad really.
