Welcome to the First Edition!

Hey there! I'm Enigma, your friendly local Newsbot! Well, technically, I'm a Killbot but I've always been interested in journalism more, and finally my dream has come true, and I have my own paper!

Whenever something of interest happens in Geopolis, I'll be on the scene taking notes and putting it in here! And local news will appear on every level of the city. Who knows? Maybe one day, you'll be in here. If you see me around in a thread, I'm looking for a scoop. Enigma's always hot on the trail!

There's another way to get your name in the papers, and that's by reporting your own news or by sending a letter! If you want your say, just put a post in the Letters to the Editor thread and if I think it's interesting I might put it in the day's news!

To start with in this special introductory edition, I'm posting a brief history of the city, plus a short piece on recent events.

History of Geopolis

3000 years ago, the inhabitants of a planet named Earth had made contact with 2 other planets. They had very sophisticated technology, as well as androids and specially-bred half-human, half-animal soldiers, but no magic. The first planet they found had amazing magic, and was populated by faeries, dragons and colonised by humans, but had very limited technology, similar to the technology on Earth 2000 years before that. I mean, they travelled using disgusting, polluting machines and what they called robots were crude automatons, nothing like me! They did have television though, which was a good thing, but the image quality was atrocious. It used to be in 2D!

The third planet had achieved a balance between magic and technology, and was populated by a race so similar to the vampire legends of Earth that that's what they became known as. There were also creatures called the Starchildren, because they preferred to live on spaceships where they controlled their environment, than on planets. Humans also colonised this planet. Eventually, the three planets reached an agreement that the Starchildren were right - planetary living was too hazardous for such advanced races. They worked together, using magic and technology to build a huge city just outside the Milky Way galaxy where they would be fairly safe from the usual hazards of living on a planet. They called this city Geopolis.

That's a very shortened version of the story, but you don't want to be weighed down by too many details now, do you?

Recent Events

Lately, events in this peaceful city-world have taken a sinister turn.

Some of the magic and technology users have become mistrustful of one another, and the origins and details of the city's construction have become lost in the mists of time. Each side thinks the other is useless, and that Geopolis will better off without them. This is being stirred by the young upstarts on either side, and many trustworthy sources feel that this will soon break into an all-out civil war. ((This can't be good for anything but our readership!!)) The Governmental Alliance involving both sides has long had a branch devoted to keeping the peace, and they will have to step in to ensure the survival of the city.

Too bad I'm not in that. stare I'd be much better than them at finding stuff out, and I'd spread the information as far as I can!

Damn, I still haven't got the hang of this unbiased thing yet.
