Species Information

Here is where you find out about each species in Geopolis, their main strengths and weaknesses, their temperaments and suitabilities.
NB: I haven't done this to lord it over you, just to standardise things. I've tried to include as many of the popular species as possible, plus one that's just for this guild. Also, it is possible but unusual for species to interbreed.

Human

What can I say? They have no particular flair for magic or technology, they have an average lifespan and they don't usually have the subtlety to make a good spy. However, they are an unusually hardy and persistent race (some, mostly vampires, believe this is simply an expression of their inherent stupidity). Due to their usually deeply ingrained moral values, the other races tend to trust them.

Android

A 'race' of mechanical people. They don't tend to do very good magic, apart from the few who are specially built for the purpose, but they have highly advanced technological abilities. Different types of android have different abilities and different appearances suited to their purpose. They tend to 'live' in the mechanical layers of Geopolis, although there are quite a few kept on the upper layers for maintenance and service work. They are highly logical and will follow orders without hesitance, so long as they are from the right people for something they know how to do. They can 'live' until they are broken beyond repair, which makes them good as soldiers, and they can easily repair themselves and each other. Some view them with mistrust, as their general lack of emotions can mean they can go about covert missions without ever revealing themselves as such.

Enigma R-013 is one of these.

Beast-(wo)men

A 'race' of people infused with animal DNA. They have the abilities as well as the weaknesses of that particular animal. They are usually infertile, as they have been artificially created and their genes should be invalid, but some have been known to have children without problems. They have a shorter lifespan than humans, as their cells wear out more quickly, but they usually heal extremely quickly and can take a lot of abuse. They are used mostly as soldiers, since they are considered 'expendable' by a lot of people. They have a little magic, if associated with the folklore etc of that animal, but they are mostly technological as reflects their origins. They have a lot of offensive technology, as well as defensive.
NB - Some of these don't like this term, and prefer to call themselves angels, neko, werewolves etc. They're not. Please bear with their insecurity.

Sunchildren

An alien race, that has very good technology (especially in travel and defense) but usually little magic (although there are those who have become very skilled magic users), and have lived on spaceships rather than planets for much of their history, hence their name. They are a tall, willowy race with very weak bones, as they evolved living in orbit around their planet, and are not used to gravity. They have a little armour along their back, but are not well suited to physical work. They have metallic gold, silver or bronze skin with a crest on their head like the one on a newt's back. They generally walk on two legs, but can run very fast on all fours. They have large claws on their bony hands, as well as large eyes, frog-like snouts and holes for ears. Some have tails. They are highly intelligent and emotional, and have a degree of ESP. They are often good swimmers. They don't live as long as humans, but make up for it by rarely having to sleep.

Vampires

These look like humans with large batwings on their backs that they can use to glide long distances, but unlike bats they cannot perform maneouvres and are fairly clumsy fliers. They tend to be extremely well-groomed and take pride in their appearance. They are an intelligent and mistrustful race, with a liking for money and the finer things in life, but they are also quite emotional. They live for a very long time. They have sharp teeth, but unlike the vampires of legend do not need to drink blood. In fact very few do, although they are a carnivorous race. They will not generally attack other races, because they know the importance of keeping the peace. They do use something they call 'blood magic', which involves finding out and controlling people's thoughts and actions. No other race can use this kind of magic. They also have a strong talent for shadow magic. They aren't harmed by exposure to sunlight, but they do find it unpleasant and so prefer to live on the lower levels of Geopolis.

Faeries

These are very small, about half the size of an adult human at the most, and don't live very long. Their most striking feature is their beautiful wings, which are just for show - Geopolis faeries cannot fly. They are a stunning and captivating race, and all other races but the vampires take them at face value, believing them to be sweet and gentle. However, they tend more towards being vain, devious and mischievous, and take delight in stirring up conflict. They have incredibly powerful elemental magics, their strongest shown by the colours in their wings. They don't usually like to use technology, as they love nature and are too small and frail to handle machinery. Some of them, however, find their size to be a great advantage when dealing with small parts, and become successful engineers.

Dragons

These are intelligent lizards, and come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some have wings, some have no legs, some have no tails, some have two heads, these are incredibly varied in appearance. They all have a tough, scaly hide, large teeth and claws (if they have legs) and dangerous breath, although many have something other than fire. They usually specialise in one elemental magic or discipline, becoming highly skilled with it. The fact that they lack hands means they very rarely use technology, but their sharp, incisive minds mean they are highly sought after as scientists and inventors. They are a straight-forward, tactless race and usually find it hard to keep a hidden agenda. (Although some excel at spying.) They like shiny things and will collect jewellery for no other reason than this.

Interbreeding

It is surprisingly common to come across halfbreeds in Geopolis.
Human halfbreeds are the most common of all. Those things are so unremarkable, of course they're attracted to the others. It's simply a way of improving their own genes. They tend to be pretty much like their other half, except with lessened strengths and weaknesses.
Technically, there aren't any android 'halfbreeds', as the transformation from a purebreed to a cyborg version is anything but natural. They tend to be hardier than usual organisms, but with mechanical problems.
Beast-(wo)men halfbreeds are the least common. Their genes are so mangled, they can barely breed with each other, let alone anything else. Still, it's not unheard of. They get ill easily, but live a lot longer than usual.
Sunchildren halfbreeds are the second most common, as they have no problems with anyone else. However, they do have a tendency to be even more physically frail than usual, no matter what other species they breed with.
Vampire halfbreeds don't have problems with sunlight and can still use blood magic, although not as strongly as fullblood vampires. Contrary to popular belief, it is not possible to 'become' a vampire. All vampire halfbreeds have the wings and can fly (faerie halfbreeds have fully working faerie wings).
Faerie halfbreeds are also quite rare, as they are so small it is biologically very difficult. These halfbreeds tend to be quite small versions of their other half, with the faeries' beautiful wings (if they are a vampire halfbreed these wings are actually useful). They tend to have the same magics as normal faeries, but not quite as strong.
Dragon halfbreeds look like extremely reptilian versions of their other kind. They still tend to excel at one thing, but may be better able to handle a wide range of disciplines (especially if a human halfbreed).

Maximum lifespan: A little (roughly 10 years) below the halfway point between the two species' lifespans.
