Subforum Directory

OK, so I'll give you a quick overview of this place! More detailed information on each sector is available in the announcement in each subforum.

Geopolis is a globe roughly twice the size of Earth and rotates like a planet, but unlike a planet it is hollow and its inhabitants live inside. It has a tough, transparent exterior shell. On the top two thirds, this is layered over a slightly blueish but still tranparent 'sky', with two lights that move around to simulate the cycles of days and seasons. On the bottom third can be seen a mass of machinery.
Geopolis, despite being referred to as a 'city', is more like a world in its layout. It has several smaller cities placed within it, as well as farmland, oceans, forests and many other different types of habitat. There are four layers to the top two thirds of the world, each with their own distinctive features. Due to differing light levels, there are different habitats on each level, and some species prefer to live on a certain level. There are many different animals and plants living in Geopolis, all taken from the inhabitants' three homeworlds.
There is a central 'core' of machinery, about a mile wide. This is used to gain access to the lower levels (there are also many small transportation towers for this purpose). It has a secondary core, which only the highest powers in the city have access to. Its contents, and the contents of the locked rooms lower down that it leads to, are a closely guarded secret.
The lower third is concerned with the workings of the city as a whole. There is a large and flourishing population down here, where whole families have grown up learning how to regulate the temperature of each layer, the light levels, the sea levels, everything that would affect the well-being of people higher up. In return, they are provided with everything they need to live.

The Core

This area is inaccessible to ordinary citizens. To get here and influence the most important decisions in the city, you have to have a lot of power. Only I may give you that power as yet.
What's in here? Who knows? ninja

Light Level

This is the topmost level of Geopolis. It is extremely warm and bright so Vampires don't seem to like it here but all other species enjoy its sunny climes, especially the Sunchildren and Dragons.
The main central city is based in the centre of a lush tropical rainforest, and consists of huge, highly ornamental white marble buildings rising out of the trees like icebergs in the sea. The surrounding forest is filled with exotic wildlife and thousands of species of jewelled birds and beetles, agile monkeys, poisonous snakes, elusive carnivores and many other kinds of creatures. It is extremely hot and humid in here, contrasting with the aridity of the desert.
The outer edge of this level is a huge expanse of sand, populated by snakes, lizards and insects but even they seem to find it tough out here. There are a few small villages surviving around sparse waterholes or a person with control over water, who is treated as royalty. Still, life can be harsh which is why very few people ever come here.

Air Level

This level is probably the nicest climate to live in. It has enough sunlight to make it appeal to all races (except, again, the Vampires), but not so much to make it unbearably hot or dry. Plant life flourishes here, with huge deciduous forest and rolling green hills, and there are farms everywhere.
The main city in the centre is a bustling, energetic metropolis, similar in style to fantasy cities of old but with advanced technology too. Life is lived at the pace each person wishes, and most people who live here will not want to leave. Food is abundant, quality of life is excellent and even the poor don't mind.

Water Level

This level is dominated by an enormous ocean. The central city is kept from flooding by a force field which fluctuates according to the seasons, and so the outer reaches are reclaimed by the sea every year in the Spring, as the upper ice floes melt.
People who wish to explore the ocean or visit the smaller settlements have to travel either by submarine or over the ice sheets which lay on the surface, although this isn't advisable in the Summer. In fact, these areas are best left alone as they are just as harsh as the desert of the Light Level, and have claimed many lives.
The sea is full of strange fish and other aquatic life, most of which are dangerous in one way or another. The city itself is built of tall spires rising from the seabed, and entered through holes in the rock like sea caves. It is a beautiful and eerie place, especially in the winter when very little light filters through the thick ice and the city is bathed in a blue glow. Sunchildren don't particularly like to live here, but some Dragons and Beastpeople (the ones of each race adapted to aquatic life) love it.

Earth Level

This is a dark and mysterious place. Its myriad swamps, coniferous forests and caves are filled with a sense of foreboding that put a lot of people off leaving the central city. This is for a good reason; this level is like a maze, with many explorers claimed by the earth, either swallowed up by the swap or unable to find their way out of the deep caverns. The wildlife is adapted to the low light levels here, are good at tracking their prey and can be very savage. As many people again have been lost to these as to the conditions.
The city is partly built of tough wood and granite, but mostly based in an underground cave network many miles across in each direction. It is dimly lit by torches and can be confusing. Down there it is hard to remember which direction is which, and if you stray into the wrong cave you could find yourself leaving the city and heading out into the wilderness.
Sunchildren hate the darkness down here, while Dragons find it claustrophobic, but Vampires love it and Faeries enjoy the air of mystery.

Fire Level

This is the first of the working layers of Geopolis, and composed entirely of machinery. It is searingly hot down here, and the cramped passageways, loud noises and constant threat of breaking machinery means it isn't the most popular place to live.
Androids like being down here because it reminds them of their mechanical heritage, but not many other people can hack the conditions down here. However, there are always enthusiastic engineers who feel the love of their art outweighs any physical discomfort, and it is this love that has kept Geopolis in such perfect working order all this time. Of course, there are no native flora or fauna here; there isn't anything for them to eat. It is crucial that people stay here to keep up the maintenance.

Shadow Level

This is the final, deepest layer of Geopolis. It is a lot like the Fire Level except the machinery down here isn't quite right... There are parts of it that seem unable to exist, or don't seem to exist at all, and people unaccustomed to it find themselves driven crazy by strange apparitions and constantly shifting dimensions.
Androids rarely venture down here because their logical minds can't cope with it, but most magic users spend a month or two down here as a way to prove their suitability, and this is how this level is maintained and improved. It is rumoured by some that the Fire Level is but a show, and this is the part that keeps everything running. However, there are those who say the opposite.

Tha Intarwebz OOC

This is the main network the citizens of Geopolis use to communicate with those far, far away, and they gather in huge numbers to pretend to be citizens of Earth from 5000 years ago... ninja

Inter-Level Transport

On each level are located nine inter-level transport tubes. One is situated as a ring around the Core, in the center of each level. The other eight are spaced evenly at equal distances from the Core, and every one runs straight through Geopolis from top to bottom. Some of them can be difficult to reach depending on your location, but they are the only means of travelling between levels.
