I know this is term that only our guard uses, but I just felt like using it. A chessy is a really bad screw up at something during guard.

We had one at the WGI Nashville Power Regional.

Somebody tripped the circuit breaker or unplugged our power source for our music (we use our own system) and our music shut down 1 and 1/2 minutes into our show. We had to start over and take the 7.3 points in penalties, putting us in 6th instead of 2nd. Then when we started over, somebody tried to take our extention cord while we were using it. It was total sabatoge from the guard that we should have beat, that we beat at State Finals.

If our music ever stops for any reason, we're told to count and just keep going without it. We may be off time for a second, and the theme is sort of ruined without music, but at least you don't get a time penalty. Plus you look totally hardcore.

It's hard for our music to go off here, because we're competing with the drumline, so if the music goes off, then something happened to twenty musicians all at once...

Well our show is so fast and alot of time there's no real tempo, so it'd be impossible to count through. That and we looked totally professional because not one of us broke down and started freaking out. We just kinda stopped and looked at each other and then our instructer walked onto the tarp to tell us we were doing it again. That got us more penalties. We should have had up to 40 points in penalties, but they liked us, so we didn't get the majority of them!

..Wha?.. Why?
Surely they knew it was being used??! xd

I know! It was stupid!

So here's exactly what's happened: We found a room with a fridge, the fridge worked=working plug. One of our directers plugged us in and left the fridge in too. Well the circuit blew and we had to move plugs.

So... it wasn't sabotage? I was just about to ask how you knew....

That's what we were hearing at the time. The second time, when they tried to take our cord, that would have to be sabatage.

Oh... my God.... our music stopped at WGI prelims.
It ruined us! We kept counting without music, but our director told the announcer to go down and stop us while she ran to get another CD.
After using the same CD all season without any problems, the sound system at WGI prelims shut down. Jen (our director) sprinted like the wind, brought a new CD, and we started over. We were 1 minute and 40 seconds over time, so we got a penalty. We had an amazing show, though. If we hadn't had to start over, we would've been 30th and gotten into Semi-Finals.
Unfortunately....

Anyway, Estelle, you won't see this till afterwards, but I hope your guard does well at Semi's and makes it to Finals. We'll be there watching at the final round.

Any other guards at WGI championships? Interesting stories?

I remember watching a guard whose music cut off mid-show. They started counting out loud and kept going. It was hardcore. I'm pretty sure we gave them a standing ovation. It was funny though, because that was the best they ever did.

Well, when everybody counts out loud together, it's pretty easy to be clean.
We were really clean when our music cut out, especially since we (without meaning to) slowed the tempo down - our song was wicked-fast.

weird...our guard does better with faster tempo. slower stuff is usually messy unless we work on it a thousand times!

Well, I don't necessarily mean we went slow, just slower than the tempo, which was too fast for us to handle - especially since we had to count every count out loud without the music there.
We generally are better when the tempo is fast, as long as it isn't so fast we can't keep up - which was the problem with our song last year.
