Do you record your moods for fun or out of necessity due to treatment of a Mood Disorder? I do not have a Mood Disorder, but I often record my moods in journals or through Imood.com just for fun. When a friend of mine asked me how she should begin recording her moods for her Psychiatrist, I was at a loss for practical advice. I suggested a formal mood log to her, but she found that too complicated to upkeep.

She started her own system with a paper journal and some stickers. She has color-coded stickers to track which mood she is feeling which she chooses each day. After choosing the mood, she writes a number on the sticker to indicate the severity of the feeling, and then writes down what was on her mind that day. So, for example, on Monday she might choose a blue sticker to indicate Depression, she would write a number "4" to indicate the very worst level of Depression, and then might write "fight with boyfriend" to show what may have caused the mood.

What do you do to track your moods, if anything?

I've never tracked mine, I've never wanted or needed to. I've tracked other things with my calender. My mother usually tracks things for me if anything needs to be tracked (such as how ofen I get headaches). sweatdrop I'm very dissorganised! redface

Haha! Good point! I guess I only like the idea because I love datebooks and calendars and journals!

I draw a picture for every bad day. That's about it. It's a good way to practice art... 3nodding

Good idea! I have a drawing book with sections for each mood. I used to draw pictures for each section. But, I am a pretty bad artist, and practice didn't seem to help me very much! *lol* So I started journaling in between the pictures.

Nah, I don't track mine, even though I'm bipolar.

I know when I'm cycling, usually, but I never saw a need to track them. *shrug*

So, I'm guessing that means you don't alter your medicines throughout your cycle? Do you just take mood stabilizers?

I've never tried tracking my mood. It would be pretty pointless, for me, anyway. I have a hard enough time determining my mood when I make posts on my journal, I don't think I could figure it outon a regular basis. I usually feel just neutral, bad, or ok.

Now that I'm thinking about it, though, maybe it would help me get more in touch with my emotions to try to do something like that. I will think about signing up.

Art can be very therapeutic. It often helps me relax and concentrate.

I am actually just beginning a course on art therapy. We will be working with children in a psychiatric hospital, but we don't get to meet the kids until next week.

I know it helped me. I used to think the same way you do, that I was either Good, Bad or Blah, but now I pay more attention to how I'm feeling and what influences my mood. It helps me stay happier!

That's really cool! Keep us updated on that. I'd like to know how you do art therapy!

I take Abilify right now. It's an antipsychotic mood stabilizer.

Nah, I always take the same meds. I'm running out of new meds, though.

Hey, I took Abilify for a while! I didn't know it was a mood stabilizer too! Interesting! Abilify tended to give me panic attacks, though, in addition to the side-effects that I experience with other anti-psychotics. I guess I'm just really sensitive to those medicines. How is Abilify working for you?

I agree with the art gig.
Art... it would stimulate the creative processes... so that's why they let preschoolers fingerpaint...
I've got to move away from anime drawing, though. I find it a cookie-cutter process.

What kind of pictures do you draw that you feel allows you to be the most creative?

It's giving me an interesting stoned effect. I'm not cycling as crazily, though. It lets me still be hypomanic without going dangerously scary manic. I guess it's better than the other meds I've tried, and I've tried a LOT. I hope it works, though, because it's pretty much the last med I have to take.

Well, good luck with it! It sounds like it's doing you some good!
