Word has spread quickly to the camp of the new arrivals. Slowly, more and more curious Aishans were traveling to Kiros to find out if the rumors were true. Lumikani was glad that those in command were strict in their rules - no one but sworn protectors were permitted near the growing tree. Lumikani was fortunate enough to be one such protector, though she often would insist on protecting the beaches instead of the tree. It gave her time to be alone with her thoughts, and continue to atone for her sins.

She was glad to see the seed had budded, because it meant their mission was approved by Elzira. It was a warm feeling, a step toward redemption for all the sisters who had traveled so far. They were still small, suspicious of any who tried to come in and fearful that if someone new arrived it might mean they would lead them down the path toward corruption once more.

Lumikani wouldn't allow it. Their mission was pure - they were Aishans seeking to follow the ways of the great mother, but also understanding that the great mother sent many messages and sought change.

Sighing, Lumikani looked out from the forest of silver trees, toward where her family was still conversing. She knew from the looks that she had a lot to discuss with Zandala, but both understood the time wasn't right while their daughters were there.

No, Lumikani would face Zandala alone, where they could work out their differences and determine what was next in their partnership.

As the sun began to set, the petite Alkidike knew it was now or never. She moved closer to her family and gave Zandala a nod toward the direction of the new tree. There, they could at least trust their daughters wouldn't overhear.

It had not been an easy journey. Not only had Kanika brought along someone else with them, they’d made a whole detour in the hopes of not being followed. Thankfully their precautions had been worth it in the end. They had not been followed and wouldn’t have been followed from mainland to Kahikina. It had been a lot of sleepless nights planning and thinking and worrying about everything and anything. Much worse had been the anxiety of it all, it would be Pyrrha and Kanika’s first time off the island and Zandala was charged with keeping both of them safe. A lot to handle all things considered!

Zandala had been a mix of feelings and her anxiety didn’t go away when they landed. Kanika was radiating hostility like she had never seen before and Lumiknai seemed to be avoiding her. At least Zayanna seemed to be in high spirits so that was nice. Lumikani couldn’t avoid her forever though, so Zandala waited her out. It was not up to her to repair the damage. So Zandala waited and waited until finally, Lumikani was ready to talk.

Zandala followed after her until they reached the new tree. She crossed her arms, looking down at the tiny thing that was growing. She would not be the first to speak, even if all she wanted to do was grab Lumikani and hug her forever.

Lumikani looked down at the tree, growing larger each and every day. Each year it grew with speed, as if it were soaking up the freshwater in the ground and thriving. The tree was similar to those in the area, with bark a silvery color and leaves of pale blue and greens. Unlike the other trees, this one was thick and sturdy, and soon enough would grow strong like her cousins.

Lumikani felt the same sense of pride and peace every time she looked at her tree. It proved her mission was true, that a tree would bloom and thrive no matter it's size, color, or home.

It took a moment for her to remember what she was doing, so lost she was in her small tree. Like a newbloomed babe, she couldn't stop looking with fondness at the sprout.

She turned to her partner and evaluated the energy in the space. Zandala was closed off, focused on the tree and hard to read. Lumikani swallowed.

"I'm glad you are here, Zandala." She finally said in a soft voice, still determining what would be right to say after all these years.

“You’re glad...” Zandala tried to bite the sarcasm in her voice, but it was hard. Did she know what they’d been through? The journey here hadn’t been as straightforward as she had hoped, and with Kanika dragging along Pyrrha, she hadn’t had a good nights rest in a long time.

“I’m glad I made it here with our daughter and her runaway friend without getting our throats slit in the process.” She huffed walking about to let off some of her anger. “Do you even know what it was like while you were gone? What people said behind our backs? About our daughters and you?”

No one had dared say it outloud, but when Lumikani and Zayanna had not returned after a few days, everyone had made assumptions about them. Zandala had felt utterly alone and weak, unable to do anything because she knew deep down they were right. Lumi had left in the night with the others with the seed and taken one of her daughters with her. Deep shame had filled her fed by the stares and whispers behind her back from her sisters.

Lumikani waited for Zandala to finish speaking, patient and quiet. She knew what they said, because they always said it. She wasn't welcome, and it would take one slip up before they considered slitting her throat. Maybe Zandala didn't realize it, but no one appreciated the Alkidike who didn't follow the extremist ways. Maybe that's why Kanika's friend ran away, because being different meant being wrong.

"I can guess. They didn't hide their thoughts about me while I was there, Zandala. Maybe you got along with them, but as soon as they realized I wasn't extreme enough, they were itching for a reason to banish me or kill me. I wasn't going to wait for that to happen."

Her voice was tired, accepting. Every step in her life was a mistake. It all started when she backed the wrong mystic. And now she was across the world and seen as a traitor in the eyes of her family.

"Zayana followed me without knowing what my plan was. She made a decision to keep with the ship hoping to inform you both of where I went when we got there. She didn't know and didn't abandon you..."

Like I did She thought.
