((::for indexing Iniko is is purple, NCP librarian assistant is green.: smile )

Iniko had been wandering down a street opposite a library, this library was huge though like three stories high, Iniko knew it was a library because it was signposted as one…. Belosh Central Library… Didn’t mean he knew what that meant though.

Even with the colour of his skin and what looked like colourful tattoos no one seemed to stop or bother him. They asked where his parents were sometimes and he’d learnt to respond with; ‘At home, his mam was sick and he was off to buy some bread and vegetables for his pap to make soup.’ With a bright little beam and sometimes he’d been given a small coin or two from a couple older ladies for being such a good little chap. He’d heard some other kid use the line and it got ‘em left alone and since using it he’d just adopted it… It worked though.

Right now though he was just bored, he didn’t have any coins on him left for food and he wasn’t sure where to go next anyway. He tilted his head looking at the big building, curiosity got the better of him and he flitted up the short steps to the doorway and pushed the door open peering inside. What is this place?

Inside there were rows and rows of books, they were all sorted into some kind of system that made absolutely no sense to Iniko when he glanced at them. Maybe whoever created it is crazy… Lotsa numbers.. Maybe it was the order they’d gotten the books in? That made sense.

Iniko slipped passed the door and didn’t even need to go far, there standing at the desk was a woman who was quite flustered and upset, arms folded toe-tapping there seemed to be no one else around.. At least if they were they were all keeping themselves quite busy and not coming over this way.

“And did you even see the name of this book?” The red faced woman seemed to be trying not to lose her temper as she questioned someone Iniko couldn’t see from where he was standing.

He carefully stepped closer and peered around the front counter to where the woman was facing. He was short, maybe the size of a 3-4 year old but he looked a little older, his dark plum face poked around the corner with his eyes one blue and the other orange bright with curiosity with a mop of bright pink hair he wouldn’t be hard to spot peering around the corner.

Liddie yawned and stretched getting up from her book worm of a nap to hear something buzzing loudly in her nook. This orb was pulsating and glowing, like a summons. This seemed important! Was it an alarm? Did someone die? How long had the orb been there? "Crap, crap, I'm late, I'm late!" She thought as she shook out her dress and hair and went to touch the orb, but then at that moment it just disappeared! What in the name of...

Why her, why now..? Uggghh, running as fast as she could, she looked for the orb thing and looking for the others, but that wouldn't stop her from accidentally running into someone. Surely she wouldn't be confused and lost on where to go for too long.

She was headed towards the main desk, thinking that was a good place to start if any. Her personal book was with her, tucked into a bow in the back of her dress. She had it in case she needed to bonk anyone with it...or who knows. Wanted to read it again for the five-hundredth time.

A pale faced kid shook their head and made to answer the upset women when the sound of running footsteps made them pause and they glanced over.
The librarian's assistant looked up from the child she was cross with to glare at another child running through the building, "Stop running, walking inside please." She hissed at the red eyed girl before turning her cranky gaze back to the child before turning back to look at the girl again, "Is that a library book?" She asked the girl her tone a little flustered.

Iniko turned his gaze to the girl running towards the front desk, he tilted his head watching the scene, so far he hadn't appeared to be spotted by the one he was thinking of as 'cranky book guard'. He was curious what this place was though.

Liddie almost immediately noticed the other child/toddler there in front of the counter, but she had a job to do. She had to know why she was summoned or - what if the other Librarians didn't even know what she had seen? This was a weird summons if that's what it was. This kid was as pale as she was and she had to double take and shake her head when she was told to stop running... "I didn't think we were in a pool hall, Madam." She answered and then mentioned further. "Only in swimming books was running a bad idea. I wasn't hurting anyone.." A very child-like statement if she did say so herself.

Then the question about the library book. Did this one not know that she was magic touched by the book she carried??? "Whatever do you mean, Madam?" She would ask and nah, she didn't have any issues with authority each time she said it. She bumped into her 'overseer' and then hopped onto the counter to see the boy better. "Are you here to see about books? We do books in this place, young lad." She wondered what had gotten into her caretaker, but hey. They all had their bad days. If she had a tail it would be twitching to and fro, but now wasn't the time or place for that.

"Do you like adventure? Lots of adventures to be found here! I could tell you my favorite story while my gatekeeper gets her cup of coffee. MadamMum, I know you get cranky without it..." She replied first to the strange boy, not wanting to call him out on his weird features as she wasn't any better about how she looked by a mile. Then, she replied back to her caretaker, offering a coffee in the kitchen. How did Liddie survive without the hyper-liciousness that was called coffee?

"Don't 'madam' me missy." The woman said bringing her hands to her hips, "This ones gone and accidentally set a book on fire and now I have to find out which one and replace it." She huffed as she nodded a head to the pale face child in front of her.

The pale faced child who'd been indicated to flushed, "I didn't mean to… was just .. reciting the words an…". He made a motion with his hands indicating something burst, "I didn't mean to.." He said again turning his eyes towards the upset librarian.

The woman sighed and gripped a small space between her eyes, "I see." She took a long breath to steady herself before dropping her hand, Liddie was right she was being rather cranky right now. "I think I know what book that was you were reading then… You really shouldn't have been in that section." She said with a frown at the child she was about to address them further when Lydia seemed to notice another child.

She turned to peer at the other small child peering out from around the counter and sighed again, "I forgot about that book of yours, and I'd love some coffee." She said before turning to face the pale child she'd been addressing, "Its okay Sam, I understand. Run on back to the orphanage and quit getting into mischief okay." She ruffled the boys blonde hair and gave him a gentle nudge towards the door.

The boy the woman had called Sam scurried quickly away from them, he slowed down as he passed the dark purple skinned boy… his eyes were a tad odd being two different colours… But he wasn't about to stop fully just in case she threatened to tell the orphanage caretaker, he hurried on out the door not looking back.

Corrr he set a book on fire?
Iniko blinked at the red eyed girl, she'd called the cranky woman ' madam' and 'mum' and now… She was coming closer to him, his eyes were wide and round almost as if he'd been sprung entering somewhere he shouldn't be. He realised the woman had also seen him and the boy was leaving…
Was that… all?
He was perplexed, "What you mean by a story? And whats coffee?" Iniko asked suspiciously of her, his dark purple ears flattening a little as he peered up at the girl trying to resist taking a step back.

Liddie play huffed back at 'Rary to the whole "Madam me," but really paid attention to the whole idea of one of the orphans killed a book. Liddie didn't like that, so she looked a little more stern that she probably meant to. She crossed her arms and nodded fiercely and went "Mmmh, Mmmhmmm. Books are important to us all! Maybe we learn a bit more before using a book as the medium..."

LIddie was sure the boy meant no harm, but the fact that it did happen after all, well...who was she to say? It wasn't her life or magic destroying books. Okay, so she destroyed one. So what?! She "replaced" it with a shadow version and she still flipped through it on occasion. Speaking of replacing... "Madam...if you know of it, I could recreate it? If any of it survived I mean..I could try to make a shadow version of it..." Sure once after it was away from the library or kept in darkness for a time it might vanish, but! She was willing to try.

She did giggle however at him being sent away. Now, who was the oddest of fellows she happened to greet here in the library? Well, not oddest, but it had been some time since she saw someone as weird as herself. "Byeee Sam..

Oooh - Cooffee!"

She called, but didn't leave her eyes off of Iniko all the while. "Story? Never heard of like, bedtime stories? Things that are made up, some things that are real that are told to us by others? Stories are in books...and books are here." She replied and he seems confused about coffee. Oooohhh. Mmm. Goodness. "Coffee is this thing I'm not supposed to have, but ...I can't tell you. You'll just have to smell it! It's warm and strong but can be sugary. I mean. If you would rather play...I mean. What do you do for fun?" One might say she talked a wiiiiittle bit too much...right?

The librarian assistant simply nodded to what Lydia had said about books and sighed at her own thoughts, the book had been basically incinerated. “It’s okay Lydia, I know which book it is he’s had an accident with… I’ll see if I can order another one after I’ve made a coffee..” She said as she deposited the charcoaled almost just ash remains of the book in the bin, that once had a deep crimson coloured cover with golden embossed words ‘The Little Book of Fires’ it actually wasn’t the first time Sam had done this getting excited about the book… She briefly wondered if she should mention something about this to someone else as she walked away leaving Lydia with the smaller child.
She didn’t have the best ‘people’ skills, so Lydia appearing when she had was more a blessing so the woman could bustle off about other business leaving the children be.

Iniko watched the 'older' woman leave before he turned his gaze back to the girl that seemed to be being called Lydia by the woman, he shook his head his big ears flapping slightly as his pink hair flopped around his head, “No ones ever read a bedtime story to me ‘afore.” He said tilting his head almost puppy-ish, “Is coffee something you eat?” He asked, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to eat something if it was strong, what if it tried to fight him? But she did say sugary so maybe it was also sweet? A candy that fights back?

He next question pulled him from that line of thought, “For fun? Err…” He glanced around him before looking back up at her, “I sum times like to see how fast I can run… Like when I get’a few sausages from the butchers… I win if I’m faster.” He beamed at her, he was referring to the times in which he would steal a run of sausages or some kind of cured meat and if he out ran the butcher he’d score a meal but sometimes he’d lose it if he wasn’t quick enough. Iniko figured he had to either choose between getting caught and a feed sometimes, he didn't have anyone looking after him or looking out for him; it was just him.

He glanced around at the shelves thinking, "Can you eat books?" He didn't think any of them looked appetizing but.... He would probably try if he got hungry enough, and given he'd been previously thinking of some kind of candy that could fight back it wasn't far a leap for his mind to wonder if books were edible.

She kept looking between Rary and the new kid in front of her. She was happy for her shadow book and all the other books in the library like it. "I would have tried to recreate it, but it would have been ..not the same."

The small girl knew the Librarian wasn't good with anything outside of simple care of books and fees and things people got into.

"You drink coffee and it gives you LOTS of energy...
You run really fast? How fast is...fast? Bet you'd run faster on coffee~"
She giggled and they'd probably not dally through the halls on the way to the kitchen. Eating books...her hairs raised on her neck. "No, no eating books ever. That kid mean faced for destroying one..."

It didn't take her long to realize that the boy was awfully hungry. She felt it was time for snacks so she would escort him in the direction of the coffee/snack room to see about nibbles. Which was also where Rary was headed, she was sure.

"Just follow me, I'll get us some nibbles. Snack foods.." She answered, feeling bad for the boy. Looked like he was used to scrounging.

Iniko perked up, “Coffee’ll make me faster?” He seemed to like that idea as a grin formed across his face, he was now definitely curious what this ‘coffee’ was, if it would make him run faster then he might get more dinners!

“Ohh….” His face screwed up a little bit with a frown at her next comment about the books, so they weren’t edible; just something she said you learn from…. He wasn’t quite sure how they taught things either but he’ll take her word for it. He peered at a book that was near him on a shelf, it seemed to do nothing but sit there… He was about to slowly reach forward and carefully poke at the spine of the book when the girl spoke again and her words caught his attention.

“Food? Yes please.” He said whipping his attention to her almost immediately, rocking backwards and forwards on his heels as he bobbed his head up and down. One of the fastest way to gain Iniko’s attention at the moment was definitely with offers of food.

Liddie giggled as she could see based on what she had said that he think he'd run faster. "I'm just saying it might make you feel like you can run super fast. You might super crash though. Buuuttt...who doesn't like naps?"

She thought it over and they were about to walk into where the snacks and things were kept. She did happen to look at him with a smile when he crumpled his face. She was sure that snacks and treats were the best way to any young person's mind. Hey, maybe he'd hang out with her more. He was by far the most interesting kid or child she had ever met there thus far.

She stopped when she noticed he had looked at a book. She decided to pull her shadow copy from her bow in the back of her dress and poked it out from him to hold.

"This is a ...what did my 'Rary call it. She called it a foe. A foe book, but a copy of the one I...didn't mean to ruin. I know you can't read, but..." Liddie answered and let him hold it if he wanted. There was nothing he could do to destroy it anymore than it already was. "If you looked on the first page, it was signed and had a sweet uhm. Rememory? Of the authors notes. The author wrote it for the sisters she had move apart from..though they were alllllllllll special in their own way...like us.."

She answered and giggled and tugged him gently, so long as he didn't drop the book. Super talkative for a ...well. Child. She rounded the corner to the sell shop that was the library. Might as well make a souvenir and market place. Food, souvenirs, drinks, trinkets...all in this little court within the library.

Iniko wasn’t absolutely following what the bigger girl was meaning when she spoke, to him super crash meant like running into a wall or something and the idea of naps well… He frowned he didn’t like having to take naps; there was far too much to see and do and he had to keep on his toes in the big city. He didn’t say anything though as his nose overruled his other thoughts as he sniffed the air, he could smell an odd combination of things as they walked along.. No longer just the musty smell of the books now there was a mingling smell of…. Food? His eyes lit up as he sniffed the air again, his little wings flapping, he almost started hovering as he started seeming to move on his tiptoes towards where the smells were coming from. His mouth started to water at the tempting smells.

But before he could fully drift off towards the direction of the food stall he was suddenly presented with a book… He blinked his brain slowly, logging back to where they were as his wings slowed to a stop…
Slowly he took the offered book and looked at it, it did look little different to the other books and he carefully opened it. There was stuff on the pages, wiggly lines and dots and stuff he had no idea what any of it meant. He was tugged along again by her as he snapped the book shut, it was a little big for him but he managed to not drop it as they rounded a corner and discovered the source of the smells he’d picked up on, now she was lucky he didn’t drop the book as his wings again fluttered into motion however he was this time weighed down by the book he was still clutching and could barely even create a hover even though he almost vibrated with excitement as he eyed the available food. He looked towards girl and tilted his head, his dual coloured eyes wide as he whispered; which seemed odd for how much energy he seemed to be vibrating with, “I don’ have any coins…”

Liddie kept watching him as he seemed to practically float in the direction of food and sniffing at it. She couldn't help but giggle, even after he stopped for a whole half second to be curious about the book she practically put into his face. She knew he wouldn't know what the scribbles were inside the pages, but maybe he could have an understanding of how they worked...of the idea.

"Maybe I could fully read it to you over time? The scribbles mean things. Turns into a story..." The crazed red-eyed girl replied and was glad he held onto it as she sort of dragged them further along. She felt a difference and turned to watch him try and flap his wings even more towards the kitchen. She acted like she didn't notice his wings the first time she saw him - but obviously her mind had.

Fae folk and wings, it didn't really make her think that it was abnormal. Sure abnormal for her and others maybe, but she was a little use to oddballs. Most likely why she was left to take care of him.

She held out her hand for her book while he took in the splendor of smells. "That hearty, earthy smell is cooofffeeee. The rest - I'm sure I can get us some sandwiches. Let me find someone.." She replied and would saunter off only after he gave her the precious book back to her.

Iniko looked down at the book after she'd explained it to him more. Those weird lines an squiggles had meant something? He peered at the front cover, there were more squiggles on it too but he had no idea what they meant, "Umm.. Okay, yeah… I.. think I'd like to hear a story." He said trying not to sound too much like he was nervous, he really was though.

When she held her hand out for the book again he put it back in her hand without much hesitation, his attention was brought back to the delicious smells around him again. "Ohhh yes please…" he said as he followed closely behind her, looking at the different things available as they walked past with a look of awe and longing.

The librarian from before could be seen talking to someone at a counter not too far ahead, she seemed to be smiling now at least.

She smiled at him and could practically see the gears turning in his head. She had hoped he would be interested in a story. She was waaaaaay more than willing to tell him the story to her. She wondered if there was one to him as well. There had to be, right?

"That would be fun for me. I like reading my book." She couldn't really tell that he was that nervous. Malnourished, sure. She was pretty happy to hear he would love food, even though he didn't have coin. She could tell. She was pretty good with some other kids, but they really liked hearing her read to them.

Or so she mostly thought. Maybe that's why 'Rary left her with them a lot...who knows. Speaking of, there she was. Liddie ran over and tugged some on the lady's shirt or dress for attention.

"Miss Rary...we're hungry. Are there some sammiches or something we can have?" She asked, waiting to catch the headmistresses' attention and then gave the pleaded soulful-eyes-look-of-sadness. Very much the - begging way of the kids.
