What is ghosting? And what are closet threads? Should I make a closet thread? What does a closet thread need? How do I do the ghosting?
Ghosting is a term used when you go into the Avatar Builder and at the top you can see a prompt of "Ghost?" When you click on that, a box appears where you enter in someone's member ID. For example, mine is 1783374. This allows you to create an avatar from items in my inventory. It's a fun and creative way for people to look at your inventory and make an avatar that you may not have thought of. To allow someone to Ghost you, there is a checkbox that says "GHOST" and that needs to be marked before someone can see your inventory. If you hover over that same checkbox, it will tell you what your ID is.
Underneath the avatar image are a few dropdown boxes. I leave "All Stores" alone, this just will break up items by the gold shops and the cash shops if you change it. The "All Types" box is useful if you're looking specifically for items that are for your legs or torso (for shirts, etc). Lastly, "Item DB (Default)" is for every item on Gaia ever. If you change it to "My Inventory" it will limit the items you see by what you have in your inventory. Then if you're ghosting someone, you'll want to change it to "Ghost User Inventory." The search box is also useful if you want to quickly search for a particular scheme or color.
When you're finished with your avatar creation, you can click on either click on "View Equipped Market Data" to show you every item you picked, it's current Marketplace value, and a total value of your creation. If you click on Male, Female, or Paw above it will give you the BBCode with links and images already built in. That BBCode is what people use in their Closet Threads sometimes when posting a new avatar.
Speaking of, Closet Threads are used to keep track of your avatar designs. Sort of like the Outfit function in Avatar Dress Up but this way you can show other people. You will have to host your own avatars on another site such as Imgur or Photobucket or Imgbb. You can certainly make a closet thread if you wish. You're not obligated to however. It's a fun place to discuss designs and receive feedback. :3 You can design your closet thread however you like! Generally people have a welcome message and a little "about me" section then use the rest of the posts of the front page to sort their designs. Some people have a section for their favorite items, or the top avatars they've created, and a lot group their designs by year and newest to oldest, or vice versa. If they allow for ghosting, they put a section in for designs they've made and designs that were made for them. Other things you can add are avatars you've made for contests (like here in the guild!) or for monthly prompts you can find around Gaia.
Closets are easy! Like Kanin said, its just a way to show off your avis - ones you've made just to wear, for contests, others have made for you, etc. They're literally just a thread that you post pictures of your avis in. Go to our main forums, then click "β CLOSETS *γ½(γ»βγ»οΎ) * :ο½₯" towards the top, and look at some people's there for example! You can organize it however you like, or you can not organize at all and just post little collections of your recent avi's every once in a while. If you want to start a closet, its nothing special - literally just make a "new topic" there and make it however you like! Like Kanin said, you can take screenshots of all your avis and host the pictures on another site for this, ooooor, you can cheat like I do twisted just favorite all your own avis! make a separate favorites group in your faves, and put them there! that way, you can just grab the images straight from there and don't have to cut screenshots, upload them, etc.
And then ghosting! Super fun to me, but is a little more complicated to start! Here's a little step by step guide with pics! (hidden in the spoiler tag cuz its long)
First, go to the Avatar Builder unber My Gaia -
Then you'll be here, and should see your avi and a few different menus and option things
In order to "ghost" people, you need their code! Get your code by holding your cursor over this tickbox until this shows up - There's no easy way to copy it, so you'll have you just write it down! Also, make sure you tick that box, like I have! People won't be able to ghost you, otherwise!
Next, if you have someone you want to ghost (lets say Pocket Kanin for example~heart) you'd have to get her code, like in the guild's ghosting thread, and copy and paste it here-
Click it, and past in the code, then click "Ghost" -
Then, the avi below should change to the other person's avi, as in the person you're "ghosting", and it'll say uptop "You are ghosting as: [username]" To start ghosting from their inventory, go here -
and select "Ghost user inventory" and hit go -
That'll bring up that user's invo! So now, you can make avatars using their items, and make outfits for them on their avi! Play around with their stuff until you get an outfit you like, then go here -
Next to BBCode, click whichever one their base is, so if they have a male-base avatar, click "Male," if they have female base, click "Female," and if they have paw base, click "Paw" Kanin has a female base, so we click "Female" and it gives us this big box -
Skip the line that says "BBCode - Avatar Image will last for 90 days, 300 avatars max", and look at all the code and stuff below that. From [ IMG] to [ /spoiler], copy aaaaaaaaaaaaall that text. Then, you paste it in whatever ghosting thread, like the one we have here in the guild! You quote the person you ghosted, and paste all of that below it!
So, at the end of it all~~ this is what your post for a ghost should look like~~
Its a little complicated at first sweatdrop but once you've done it a couple times, it's easy breezy~! We'd love to have you join our ghosting thread, so grab your code and share it there if you want!

ooh, that's a great tip about favoriting! although I have the question now, how do you get to your Collections? I found it by going a real roundabout way, but there has to be an easier way, right? you wouldn't happen to have a tutorial for it, would you?
