Hello all! Sorry I am a bit late~ Let's get to it.
New discussion topic! How do you start building an avatar?
- Do you start with an item? Or do you start with a idea?
- Do you envision what the final look will be? Or just go along with the building?
- How do you know when it's done? And do you make a lot of changes after?
For me, it really depends, I often make it and save it and then make one final touch. Some I work on for a really long time before they are done.

I haven't been making many avatars lately. I think it's summer, so I'm just busy all the time. I find that I will often just go browse around my inventory, and think, hmmm, this is kind of cool, and then kind of noodle around for awhile, until I find something I think looks neato. Then I sleep on it, and delete it the next day - but the items kind of float around my head, and after a couple more tries I'll come up with something I'm willing to hit "save" for. Now and then, though, I kind of get inspired, for whatever reason, and just throw something together fairly quickly and really like what I've made. Usually it's an item that triggers this, or someone else is using an element that I hadn't really considered, so I go and see how I can use it in my own aesthetic. One of my favorite scenics is because I saw someone's avatar with an otter, so I went to make my own otter friend for my avatar, and ended up making a scene, instead. I constantly change and add little tweaks to my avatar after I've made it. I have a couple half made avatars in my closet I've never gone back to.

I think getting part way is just as fun as finishing a look. I've got the unlimited closet, so sometimes it's more of an inspiration board. This is the otter scenic: Not sure about the choice to put fish in the sky, haha!

Yes, you get an unlimited closet with the StarKitten account. I have a $5 sub for that, and a $5 angel sub (so no ads). I think with the otters I was going for a mood, and colours. I'm not sure I'd put the fish in today. It must have been a moment of whimsy, which sometimes afflicts me. wink

Then I finally settle on something, change my mind, take it all off and start over. Sometimes at this point, I get fed up, and head to the shops or Marketplace for even MORE purple stuff. Sometimes I give up and just put on a full predesigned set. Also, did you know there's no jet packs in Gaia? I searched, no jet packs to be found, purple or otherwise. So, I didn't find a jetpack, but I got another idea, scrapped my previous outfit, tried something else, then dug around in my REALLY OLD SHIET to see if I could come up with a good idea, thought I struck gold, put together a whole outfit around it, hated it, got naked again... Then I put on a premade set, change the hair, add glasses, and call it an outfit.

Oh cool! I didnt know that. I dont have a sub or anything. I use an ad blocker haha I love the mood and the colors! I was kind of a fan of the fish actually. 3nodding

It's a cute idea. I was just clicking through my sds. Not sure I could pull anything off with *just* my sds. I'll have to look in the builder. A rainy day project!
