Date Night

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Love is in the air and it is exhausting. It seems everyone is so excited to meet someone new and see if they 'click'. To the point where this new trend has spread across Tendaji - Blind Dates.

The concept is pretty simple - you have a friend (or a matchmaker) set up a date with someone you've never met before. Some find this exhilarating - a chance to go beyond the same old and meet someone new. But others see this as unnecessary anxiety forced upon them by their friends or society's pressure.

Either way, you find yourself set up on a date not of your choosing, with a stranger who you've never met before. This could either be the person of your dreams...or a big mistake. Guess the only thing you can do is see where this date takes you.

---

For those who are already in a relationship, it's hard to host a 'blind date', but you can get close. It's time to surprise your significant other with a night date, just the two of you. No family, no children, just a chance to spend time with the one you love.

[ It's date night! This prompt should include a date with a stranger, either set up by your friends or by a matchmaker. If you're RPing your character with another, we ask that it be someone new (within reason to where your character is currently located). If you're RPing alone, create a new NPC and see where the night takes you.

Who knows, maybe this will be your character's future partner...or maybe an awkward enemy. What's the harm in the name of love?

For those who have characters already in a relationship, we're instead looking for a "Surprise Date" where one of the partners surprises the other with ad ate experience. ]

Arkadios never should have gone along with this. When his friends said they had some thing 'really fun' in mind he thought they were talking about a late night campfire at the beach or a prank on Zohra. Setting him up on a blind date was the furthest thing from his mind. The thought behind it was that he'd been too busy lately looking after Siofra that he hadn't really given much though to himself so surely getting out there was the key!

The key to what exactly? Social anxiety?

All he knew was his date's name, that it was a girl and she was an Oban hybrid. With a basket on his arm the burly hybrid leaned back against a high stone wall, keeping his eye out for a woman who matched the description.

[ Suria 1 ]

Suria was living a double life of sorts. She had done the typically rich-girl trope of running away to join the circus, without any sort of jokes around it. The freedom and excitement of such an activity was amazing considering where she came from and how she was raised. Yet she wasn't really running away, she was simply 'exploring' like her siblings had done before. Though instead of visiting the world, she was instead living a life where no one knew who she was.

It was a life of opportunity.

And yet, she still had to return home, to visiting her mother and father and spend time with her sister. It wasn't something she hated, in fact she loved such visits, but she had to act very specific ways and allow her mother to dote on her.

And set her up on blind dates.

Her mother had apparently worked with one of the girls in the hall, which was never a good sign, and as a result Suria was dressed up in glimmering garments and sultry makeup. It was a far cry from the garments she wore day in and day out, but she knew her strengths and appreciated the reflection that winked back at her in the mirror.

She would indeed knock 'em dead, and hopefully have some fun in the process.

As she walked down the street toward the designated location, long hair pulled up in a ponytail even though the dancers begged her to let it flow down in curls, Suria glanced about with bright eyes as she hunted her 'prey'.

Despite the fact that Arkadios was a fine, upstanding young man his bloodline was far from it.

Nothing that happened behind closed doors was up for discussion and as such the general populace only knew him as Thea and Rydan's youngest son. While it seemingly made life much easier for both himself and his sister in reality the particulars became tricky. He didn't have any qualms lying to others, at least when it came to protecting his family, but it didn't feel right doing that in a 'dating' scenario.

So, he could only hope that his date wasn't the nosey sort or anyone from a reputable family. Anything like that might get him into trouble.

He made his way to the designated meeting place with a basket held in the crook of his arm. The juxtaposition of a delicately bundled wicker basket in his large, meaty limb might have seemed odd if Ari wasn't so accustomed to it. He'd styled his dreads as well as he could and wore an open necked tunic that he was told made him look 'handsome' though he couldn't agree.

Arkadios had only passively been looking around him when his eyes landed on her. There was absolutely no way he could have missed the woman if he'd tried. That's not her. It couldn't be...Oh gods, it was...What was he supposed to say to someone who looked like that?!

"Suria?"

[ Suria 2 ]

As she heard her name called from the side, Suria took a moment to collect herself and place a cool expression on her face. Even with her primarily Oban coloring, her brighter eyes always stood out and she often used the surprising feature to her advantage. But in this case, instead of startling her 'date', she decided it might be fun to woo him instead. So she turned her head and placed a slow smile across her lips, her eyes looking him up and down.

Oh he was much more muscular than she expected, though unsurprising considering he was at least partial Oban. But his eyes were just as startling as her own, and his ears were pointed. Oh he was quite interesting indeed.

"Arkadios, I presume?" She approached with a nod. While she wasn't the smallest, her petite form really didn't stand a chance against his, and so she looked up at him as she waited for him to set the tone.

While it wasn’t entirely uncommon to see eyes like hers it certainly wasn’t an everyday occurrence. The effect it had on her physique reminded Ari of his father; their shared darker hair and skin tone combined with a flash of color. He may have been able to do the same if his hair wasn’t as bright, but even then it might have brought more attention to Ari than he wanted. ‘Blending’ was important to him and he tried to take full advantage of his ability to do so.

“Aye, that’s me.” He smiled down at her in a calm, friendly sort of way. As much as she was gorgeous Suria was still just a person, and he tried to remind himself of that. So, he lifted the arm with the basket hanging off it, and peeled back a bit of muslin. “I wasn’t sure if you had anything particular in mind for today so I made lunch.” Even if she did want to go somewhere surely they could take time for a bite.

She mentally calculated his response, he seemed casual and friendly, and she took a moment to wonder if he was a bit younger than her. Most of the men around here tended to jump when they interacted with a woman, something she was keenly aware of from her past. But she was well over such thoughts, stronger than that girl, and so she quickly decided she wasn't going to be too forward. Beside, that wasn't her goal for tonight. Though she could play along when her mother pushed her into the details.

Looking toward the basket as he revealed the treats, she raised a brow before smiling a bit more up at him, a little teasing smirk.

"You are quite prepared, huh?" She replied tilting her head before shaking it with a light laugh, "Well lead away, I'm excited to see what you've got in mind."

Arkadios shrugged his shoulders. “Cooking calms me and today had me nervous. This is the first date I’ve ever been on sooooo I hope you’re hungry. I made a lot.” He gave an awkward half-laugh before clearing his throat and leading the way toward a nice, shaded spot. There was absolutely no reason she needed to know this was his first date; what if that made him look bad? What if she’d been on a few and was some sort of date expert, ready to critique him the moment he sat the wrong way? Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Ari tried his best to calm and instead brought them toward the base of a large, natural stone.

When structures had been built the stone remained and at certain times during the day its shade made for a lovely relaxing space. Monopolizing on that notion, Ari crouched down onto the sand and pulled out a well-loved, yet well cared for, blanket to smooth out. “So-“ Ari held up a hand, offering it to Suria should she want or need help getting seated. “-tell me a little about yourself.”

Nervous? Well that made sense...even she felt a bit of uncertain sink down in her stomach at the situation, though she pushed past it and approached it head on. So instead she finally let her smile soften a bit before responding with a small chuckle.

"I could eat...and I do appreciate a home cooked meal after all the travels I've been on." she gently encouraged, enjoying his honesty and finding it a bit cute that he was rambling on.

Glancing at their final location, she looked up at the natural stone and wondered how often she might have passed this location by. Turning around in a small circle to take it in, she finally took his hand and settled down onto the blanket.

"Hmm...Well my father is an Oban General and my Sauti mother runs a dancer's hall. My family is big and we've been fortunate enough to live a good life...which is funny considering we all couldn't wait to get out and see the world."

"A traveler, huh? What's the furthest place you've been to?" While he couldn't say the same, Ari did enjoy hearing stories from those who had traveled further than the sands. He'd never gone further North than Oba, but his mother did so frequently and had told him many tales.

As soon as she said who her father was Arkadios nearly choked on his own spit.

An Oban General? While both of her parents occupations were impressive her father's military career made his blood run. That was...this...who set up this blind date, anyway? They couldn't have been a worse match if someone mixed pepper and black powder in a fire mage's soup.

Clearing his throat, Ari busied himself with taking out each dish and freeing them from the linen that bound them. It was all finger foods and lighter dishes at that except for the sweet pastries he'd so carefully packed. What good was any picnic without snacks? "I don't know I think the desire to travel is pretty wide spread. Having the extra coin just makes it easier to get out, but I can't say I wouldn't give it a shot if I could. So long as you're safe and happy, why not see what the world has to offer, right?"

Looking over his spread, Ari made note of a particular delicacy and it's accompanying dip. "Have you ever had banana flowers before? They're pretty common in Jauhar but the dip is all mine. It's a mix of sweet and spicy because I've added some local spices so you'll have to tell me if it's any good."

She leaned back a bit as she thought about his question, "I guess it's up on the border of Jauhar and Sauti. I went with my siblings. They all are heading across Tendaji to Belrea. They should be there about now...but other than that I mostly go between Oba and Matori."

She noticed his reaction and looked at him curiously. It almost seemed like he had gone pale, if his skin could even go pale. But he seemed to collect himself and focus on the food, so she brushed the strange reaction aside.

"Right, and you can always settle down. Might as well get out and experience life when you're young. And as a fellow hybrid, I'm sure your parents didn't find each other by simply staying home."

She hummed at his suggestion and leaned forward to take the dish and dipped it in the spice. Taking a bite, she hummed lightly as she let the taste of the flowers settle in before the spice hit, grinning, "Delicious! You made this?"

He very nearly slipped up when she made the comment about his parents. They actually had met by staying home. Both were oban hybrids that were born in Oba, but his mother had left with her family as a child. When she came back they met and now things were complicated.

"I did. The original recipe belonged to my grandmother, but I wanted to play around with it." Taking his own bite, Ari couldn't help smiling at the melding of flavors in his mouth. Sometimes he took risks and they were abominations, but this time it paid off. "How many siblings do you have?"

She continued to chew on the food and take bites, the taste a wonderful explosion of flavor on her taste buds. Glancing back toward the younger man, she couldn't help but think he had quite the gift. Especially if he was just 'playing around' with such a treat.

At his question, she covered her mouth with her hand a moment, before clearing her throat as she finished her bite.

"Four siblings. My three older siblings were born together and are currently traveling to...Belrea I think? And my younger sister is back home at the moment, but she tends to bounce between Oba and Matori where some family lives. You?"

Arkadios couldn't help sitting back into a more relaxed position. Despite the tension her bloodline brought, Suria herself was good company. She dressed as finely as anyone with a proper retinue, but didn't seem to hold herself as such. Proper, yes, and sure of her station, though not so much as to have an inflated ego.

"Belrea? That's a long journey. They must be dedicated adventurers." He could understand a smaller trip, but one of that magnitude? Arkadios didn't think he would ever feel the urge. "I have five." It wasn't an exact lie; he'd been raised with his cousins as older siblings and treated them as such. "Three brothers and two sisters. None of them have branched out as far as yours have, but I have a feeling that someday soon they might."

She continued to snack and enjoy the casual conversation, thinking about her family. She was traveling herself, though not as far, and knew that they were all growing out of their roots. Nodding at the comment of them being adventurers, she grinned a little bit and covered her mouth to agree.

"They'd like to think so, but they'll be home soon enough!"

As she continued the conversation, she was sure it would evolve beyond family, to hobbies and passions. She didn't realize how much fun a blind date could be!
