Had she screwed everything up?

Ever since she'd sent off those messages, she hadn't been thinking about much else. Like, she knew she'd done the moral thing, she didn't have regrets, but there were these nerves spiking up all the same. What if she'd been wrong about Albite, and he was actually scary like some of the others seemed to think he was, and he wasn't happy about Fulgurite getting so close to a traitor? On the other hand, what if Albite was fine with it, but Fulgurite felt like she'd betrayed his trust? What if both of them took it personally, one way or another, and trying to do the open communication thing meant she just ended up losing both of them?

Was this what Ignacio felt like all the time, with the anxiety and stuff? That sounded terrible.

Most of the time, Nectaris didn't mess around with what ifs, and that kept her from getting anxious. She figured out what she needed to know. That was the problem with knight letters, though. You always got left on read. There was no way to know what happened after those letters popped up somewhere else, now way to hear back.

Her best chance of getting answers, she guessed, was to go back to those gardens where Fulgurite had told her that he might be. Of course, if he wasn't there, she wouldn't know if it was just because he'd gotten held up, or if it was because he hated her forever, but, hey, it was something.

It was somewhere to go, at least. It was something to do. At least, kind of. The walk over cleared her mind, but once she was there, she got fidgety again. She ended up picking one of the heads off of a dried up hydrangea, and then starting to pick off the many, many petals.

"He loves me," she said as she dropped the first one to the ground. "He loves me not-"

After that nighttime confrontation with Albite, stumbling from the fair thing Nectaris did where she told the two of them about each other anyway, Fulgurite was... at best, apprehensive.

Albite had never acted like that before. Fulgurite had thought that perhaps by the end he had smoothed things over, but it didn't quite feel right. He left in near ******** silence with his bird bonded, leaving Fulgurite sitting with his mouth dry in this little cove that clearly meant something to Albite. It meant enough that he was not only comfortable confronting there, but he thought he had the advantage.

Albite had the advantage so much that he felt okay threatening to tear him limb by limb, even as much as he was crying too. What had Fulgurite done? What had he violated?

It was strange. He had figured that Albite would have been upset about Nectaris herself, but he didn't seem to be. He had acquiesced that his ultimate priority was what the Negaverse wanted, and the Negaverse wanted her dead, so perhaps Albite too wanted her dead. He had just nodded, robotically, and Fulgurite couldn't quite guess the depths behind it, but it at least implied Nectaris wasn't safe from him, either. At least, she wasn't protected by him, either.

He feared for her safety, to be honest.

Fulgurite went to the gardens often to clear his mind. To be honest, as he sat there, he briefly felt envious of those of the White Moon. They could just pick themselves up and go reflect on planets of silence, couldn't they?

But would they have these beautiful, albeit dried and dead, flowers?

Fulgurite made no effort to hide. That meant he didn't hide when he looked up at the sounds of someone debating a love's existence, but when he realized it was Nectaris, he hurriedly looked down. What was the right thing to say to her--

Nectaris was so lost in thought that she didn't notice the aura getting so close, but she dropped the flowers in a hurry when she saw movement, her cheeks going pink.

Not pink-like-roses, in that romance novel way it had been when she'd seen Fulgurite last time and had stuff had gone from an innocent question to a whole crush and kissing situation in a matter of minutes. Just, like, red. Flushed. Embarrassed.

Seeing that it was Fulgurite didn't even help that much. He wasn't looking at her, which was probably a bad sign. And, like, he was within his rights. She'd gone against his wishes, even if it was because it was something she'd had to do.

She looked down, too, towards the half picked flower at her feet.

He loves me not.
That was what she'd stopped on.

It was probably better to ask the person about it than a flower, though. Nectaris glanced up. "Are you mad?" she asked.

Then, a second later, she asked, "Is Albite? Or, like, anyone else? I know how gossip goes."

Fulgurite should have known that she would approach him on her own, in retrospect. The moment she saw him she would approach him, whether he found himself looking down and scrambling for good words to say to her or not. What did he tell her? Did he tell her everything was fine? Did he make some excuses, prevent her with some interesting gossip, or ignore the reality? Did he tell her the truth, that afterward, he had a stomach flop of a conversation in which Albite had actually threatened him?

He didn't really have time to think before she was asking him if he was mad, if Albite was mad, if anyone else was mad because gossip spread rapidly even between sides--

"Not anyone else as far as I know," Fulgurite was able to at least awkwardly answer that one easily, still not quite looking up at her. "Not yet, anyway."

Not yet, because while he had thought he had perhaps diffused some of Albite's crying and upset and anger and threats by the end of their conversation, he couldn't confirm that Albite wouldn't simply tell anyone else that Fulgurite had kept to himself that he had relocated the traitorous Sylvite--

Would Albite do that? It would implicate himself. But Albite was always a bit... different than he might have expected for someone who admitted without breath that he wouldn't stop anyone from killing Nectaris. He had caught how quiet he had gone when Fulgurite had said that he couldn't give Albite that knowledge because he was dedicated to the Negaverse first and foremost and above anything else--

"I'm not mad, just," he sighed, "worried. Albite was actively upset. Felt it appropriate to threaten my life, actually, over the whole thing. Not quite over you directly but because I hadn't told him I still knew you. Seemed to think I was gonna put everyone at risk."

He glanced up, but not quite at her. "Also admitted by his silence that he, at the very least, wouldn't stop the Negaverse from killing you. It was a very uncomfortable conversation."

Not mad. Worried.

It was the same kinda thing that Encke said. It had the same kinda bite to it as it did when people said stuff like, I'm not mad, just disappointed. Like, it wasn't exactly the same, it wasn't as pointed, but it still came down to the fat that if she was doing stuff that was worrying people, it meant they thought she was making bad choices.

Everyone thought she was stupid.

At least he wasn't mad, though. Maybe that meant they could go back to the other stuff, the cute stuff, the romance, and the giggles, and the stuff that people did like about her.

She probably shouldn't just brush the rest off, though.

"You can talk about me," she said. "That's okay. You can even blame me for stuff, if he gets weird about it again. Say I started it. Or, like," she puffed out her cheeks, "Say you're trying to corrupt me. That'll probably work. Keep the pressure off you."

She'd put out feelers about what Albite was trying to do, back when she'd run into Faustite being a sad ash pile. He hadn't denied the corruption thing, so. Nectaris had made a mental note of that. She hadn't told Encke. She wasn't gonna tell him, or anyone else for that matter.

"And don't worry about, like, throwing me under the bus. There's already this giant target on my back, I don't think there's much anyone can say or do to make that worse."

A second passed. "And I know he's not, like, trying to protect me. I didn't think he was gonna try to stop anyone from trying to kill me."

She looked up, more serious than she often was. "I wouldn't expect you to do something like that, either. We're enemies, right? I understand that. I don't, like, accept it. I want to change it, but I know that this is the point we're at right now."

If it was too much, all that tension, she couldn't blame him for just walking away. The thought made her feel like she was standing on eggshells, her heart barely beating.

"He told me there wouldn't be a body left to mourn. Brought his giant multiheaded bird, too."

Fulgurite bit on his lower lip, wetting it with his tongue.

"Don't think blaming you would be enough, actually. I get the sense what he was focused on was the fact that I hid you from him. Kept saying I was going to do something that was going to get everyone killed. The team killed. And," he paused, swallowed around the name Syrus because he knew he couldn't tell Nectaris that. He trusted her. He still couldn't tell her the identity of someone who wasn't himself. That was his privacy, his decision, "someone I'm close to, especially."

That was... good enough, albeit sorely incomplete. Cryolite and he had said when they became official that they would tell each other if they were kissing anyone else, but he had to be careful when it was a side divide. He owed the same to her, but it was the same.

She was a potential long-distance girlfriend of his, in a way. To her, Cryolite was the same, a long-distance boyfriend of Fulgurite's. They weren't likely to cross paths.

He was tense, and it was quite obvious he was by the way he kept looking elsewhere and looking at her out of the side of his eyes. His leg bounced.

"I know we're on separate sides," Fulgurite took a deep, shaky breath, before turning his gaze to her. "But you're important to me. I can't understand why someone would dedicate themselves to someone and still just... let them die, no matter what that side differential says. Some things should be more important."

She was more important.

No body left to mourn?

Nectaris's lips twitched. She'd been trying to brush it off, to redirect the threats, because of course she was. She loved Albite. There was no getting around that. The more Fulgurite went on, though? Yeah, that was making something twist in her chest.

"That's not okay," she said, and there was something different about the way she said it. Her features were calm. Too calm. She was perfectly still, there in the empty garden, the dried flowers at her feet. "That's, like, bad, actually. Really bad. Threatening your loved ones, too?" She shook her head once, than twice.

The numb feeling started spreading from her chest down to her arms, because she didn't want to believe it, but she didn't have any reason to think that it was a lie. And, like, she had more of a commitment to Fulgurite than she had to Albite, actually. She'd made a promise to him a long time ago, and she'd confirmed it after she'd purified. She was going to be there for him, to support him and help him on his path.

She was going to protect him.

"I meant what I said, you know," she said, "About how, like, if your superior was bad?" She tapped her moon staff pointedly against the ground, even as the weird feeling reached her face. Her eyes were hot. "I mean, I'll try to talk to him first, get him to stop that way, but, like," she sniffed, "I think we both knew, even with how everything's gone, that it might have to come to something more."

She didn't expect Fulgurite to protect her, but of course she'd fight with her life for him in an instant.

She turned away before he could see her start to cry.

There was something very different about the way she said that, and it caught his attention right away. She usually didn't get serious like that, not unless something was wrong. He could recall her using that tone a bit back when the Negaverse had called her Sylvite, but only as things were serious--

"Well, quick clarification there -- he said I was going to threaten my loved one. Worried about me doing something that'd ******** the team over or something. All prompted by..." Fulgurite wrung his own hands at the thought of harming Cryolite. His babe, his sweetheart, his Lover, the one who had already half-drunkenly asked if what Fulgurite was proposing was-- he shook his head out of it, shook out his hands, and nodded.

"But he still threatened me."

Fulgurite didn't know if he should be saying any of this, but the fact that Nectaris was promising to come to his defense was heart-warming. Her word was her word, and when she had said she would still be there for him, she had meant it. It would have been easy to take a similar view as Albite apparently had -- whatever his side did to him, they did to him. They were on separate sides now, divided by Metallia having ultimate control of his life and her being dedicated to the Moon, but it was true. Some things were more important.

"Know he's important to you." And he was important to Cryolite too, which made all of this ... messy. "But I think you're right."

Didn't want to be. He didn't want to see Nectaris upset like this. And would Albite consider a violation of the trust they barely even had for him to be discussing this? Did he care? What was Albite going to do, make him more miserable? Make it so there really was no body left to mourn?

He leaned his head back. "********," he murmured, with a laugh with no mirth. "I'm sorry. Didn't mean to just ... dump on you."

"Oh," said Nectaris, but the clarification didn't keep her from crying. It wasn't quite the same level of extreme supervillian manipulation, but it didn't change the fact that Albite was being mean to Fulgurite, and there was just a whole level of stuff being complicated there.

She wiped at her eyes with the back of her fist, and she didn't look over. She didn't want Fulgurite to freak out if he saw her crying.

"Still not okay," she said.

There was a lot more to say than that, but she couldn't say it while she was pretending not to cry. All of her energy was going into wiping at her face, and sniffing, and with how heavy her breath was and how much she was just rubbing and rubbing her eyes, it probably wasn't even working 'cause even halfway turned away, it had to be super obvious that she was having a time.

Seiana_ZI

It was obvious, and Fulgurite felt awful for it.

She deserved to know what had transpired, even if a part of him worried he shouldn't have said anything. Would that by itself be a danger? Would Albite be angry if Nectaris knew Albite threatened him? Probably, considering everything else. Why had Albite done that? Why had Fulgurite said that? Why was this all so needlessly complex; why couldn't they all at least respect each other and keep their distance if they couldn't?

Albite had opted to keep some distance since that night. Fulgurite had picked up more of his quota again.

Irrelevant.

"Do you want a hug?" tried Fulgurite, quietly, inching a bit closer on the bench he was sitting on.

"I also have some uh, more gossip?"

He was using the gossip as a distraction tactic when she kept bringing up things he couldn't confront and couldn't deal with. If that worked to distract her from him, perhaps it might also help distract her from the boiling over of emotions related to what he had just said. He didn't want her to be crying.

"Yeah," said Nectaris, and then she walked over and kinda collapsed on Fulgurite, no longer trying to hide the crying, since that was pretty pointless. Instead, she collapsed against him, kinda just shoving her wet cheeks into his shoulder for a second before she looked up. She didn't try to kiss him, since that would be assuming a lot considering everything that had happened since the last time they'd hung out, but she tilted her head up towards him in a way that made it clear that she wanted it.

"Sorry," she said, only now that she wasn't trying so hard to hide it, the tears weren't as obnoxious. Her cheeks were puffy, her nose was red, and her face was wet, but she wasn't sobbing or anything. "It's not your fault. Not you, like, dumping or anything.

She took a deep breath, steadying herself more. "I'm mad at Albite, I guess. But it's weird, 'cause it is him. Anyone else I'd be all hyped up about going to beat up for you, but, y'know,"

She loved him.

"I don't think I actually want to."

Thinking about gossip was a welcome relief. "But yeah, okay, spill the tea. Anything else interesting in your life?"

If he told her about Faustite, she could act surprised.

Seiana_ZI

Nectaris collapsed into him and Fulgurite shifted, bending so she could easily fold into his side and he could gather her up and keep her there as long as she needed. At least he could do this much. Couldn't do much for being a target of potential murder and couldn't do much about the complex emotions she found herself in the middle of, but...

He could offer a kiss, too, and he gave her a quick, gentle one.

He liked kisses.

Fulgurite took a deep breath and let it out in relief when she implied her problem wasn't him, at least. It was Albite. "Well, you're in love with him, right? Makes sense your feelings about this would be a lot."

But he'd leave it there. He'd rather spill tea. Where to start...

The easiest source of gossip for him, admittedly, remained Faustite. Not for whatever strange ailment he seemingly caught, but for the fact that he had so many interpersonal relationships which provided a gold mine of things to talk about. There was an easy place to start with that, of course, and Fulgurite would happily shoot the s**t from there.

"Faustite has a thing for boys in general, ya know. Not just husband Albite," Fulgurite shook his head at the thought of him. "There's a few others. All boy senshi, most also husbands. Like there's this one named Heliodor? Think he and Faustite have a long history. Like many years long and rocky. Serious business too, watched that guy turn in like a dozen starseeds at once... Think his powers are ryuto?"

Fulgurite, admittedly, had no idea what that was.

The kiss might have been quick, but Nectaris made the most of it, letting her eyes flutter shut. In that half a second, the rest didn't matter. They were in the happily-ever-after part of a romance novel again.

More than that, it meant that she could keep coming back to this again and again. She hadn't screwed stuff up so bad that he didn't wanna be around her anymore, didn't wanna be kissing her anymore.

Take that, flower prophecy.

She let him tug the conversation away from Albite, and she resisted the urge to tug it back, which would have been pretty easy because Albite had told her a while ago that he wasn't the only one in Faustite's life. She nodded at Fulgurite's words, instead, although she couldn't really fake the sparkly-eyed enthusiasm that only showed up when she was really intrigued by something.

"Heliodor, huh? I don't think I know about that one."

She didn't remember seeing his name in the database, at least not off the top her her head.

"But I kinda figured, you know," after talking to Albite, she meant, "That Faustite's not monogamous or anything."

Although she couldn't really say anything more about that subject without it looping back around to Albite. And it was probably really bad to talk about kissing Albite, or about Faustite's thoughts on her kissing Albite. (The kissing, she had found out, wasn't actually the part he didn't like. He didn't like that she was trying to get Albite to purify, and he wanted her to die 'cause of it, and if she told that to Fulgurite he was just gonna freak out.)

"What about you?" she asked instead. "Are you, like, married to Faustite?"

She didn't peg him for the type, but it was probably better to know now. "Or anyone else, I guess?"

If the kissing hadn't been a one-off kind of thing, she kind of needed to know.

There was no starry-eyed enthusiasm, but it was enough. It pulled the topic away from Albite, and away from him. Talking about other people was easy to do. Talking about other people was generally better. It kept the focus off his reality, off the weird tightrope he had walked since he had been originally corrupted ... nearly ten years ago? ********, man--

"He's very non-monogamous. Pretty sure he's married to like half the team?" Fulgurite seemed thoughtful about this. "Think he's got something up with Alkmene too?" And maybe Celadonite? He hadn't seen that one close up as often, though, just at the wedding... then again, that might have been close enough. Not many had been invited to the wedding, and it had taken him by surprise that Albite had pulled him along. It hadn't necessarily been unwelcomed, though it had certainly not been expected.

Good thing he had a gift, anyway--

He jumped with a start when she asked if he was married to Faustite. "Ah, no," he shook his head rapidly out of that concept. "Only even had one one-on-one with him. Mostly on Albite's branch of the team, though that hasn't stopped Faustite from giving me assignments anyway."

The ******** op--

He needed to get to work on that before Faustite looked for a damn update, plumes of smoke emitting from his body or not.

It was easier to answer the second question, even though he didn't know how to navigate it. They were on separate sides. He was on a separate side from her. He couldn't just tell her about Cryolite's life. He promised to keep him safe, and that in theory meant from her. Nectaris wasn't the jealous type, no, but there were things about keeping these sides safe from each other, safe from even the chances of being found out. He couldn't violate that, so how much could he say? Should he say? He didn't want it getting back to Albite ******** do have a boyfriend, though. Hope that's okay," Fulgurite's smile was sheepish. "Remember the blight? Were you there for that? He invited me home after we confronted it, and it kinda ... blossomed from there." He sounded ... fond. Very fond. "He's the someone special that Albite accused me of endangering. Hope you understand my caution."

Nectaris nodded at the confirmation that Faustite had lots of husbands, and at the names of those husbands, but only with a kind of passing interest. She'd tell Encke later, put them in the database or something, but these teammates were people she didn't know anything about.

Faustite, she knew about, yeah, but the only reason that she wanted him to live and purify was because it would, one, prove her brother wrong about him being too far gone, and two, make it a little bit easier to get through to Albite, probably. She didn't really care much about Faustite, himself. If he didn't live, whatever.

She'd told him to die and she didn't regret it.

The thought of Fulgurite having a boyfriend, though? Now that was when the sparkle started to come back to her face.

"Wait, you do?" she asked, smiling for the first time since she'd seen him. Of course she wasn't upset about it. She didn't think that she could be monogamous, and she knew that she wasn't gonna be able to be enough for most people, with the ace thing, so she wasn't gonna expect them to be exclusive to her.

"What's he like?" she asked, cuddling closer. "Is he nice to you? He better be nice to you." Her eyebrow raised half an inch. She could go beat up Fulgurite's boyfriend, too, if she had to. "Oh, and do I know him? What's his name?"
