ωith: No one︱ ωhere: Tea Room︱ мood: Sad/Anxious︱ σutfit: ✖ "Speaking." 'Thoughts.' Riven’s first day at the academy had been a shock to say the least. Despite what her dreams had forewarned, nothing had prepared her to experience war head-on. Waking up in the room on the floor wasn’t anything new to her, but it still wasn’t the most welcoming experience. All she had wanted to do was prevent the death of the crown prince of her nation, and she had done nothing of the sort. Having been the target of an attack herself, all she had worried about was herself. Combat was something she had no experience with before Utopia, and it was alarmingly clear that it was a new expectation for her coming in. All she wanted to do was cry in a pile of stuffies and binge chocolates, but she knew that would not solve the issue. Her parents had agreed to let her come here for two reasons: 1. To find a husband, and 2. To demonstrate that she could live on her own. So far, she was failing at both assignments. Riven hoped reuniting with her best friend would lighten her spirit, but was unsure if anything truly would. Arriving first, Riven inspected both spots to determine which was more comfortable and picked the lesser for herself. Knowing if she had decided on the cozier one, this could potentially be deemed as a test, and she didn’t need Addie to worry if Riven was looking for her best interests. Especially when the duchess was sure the princess had other thoughts consuming her mind as of late.

When Adelaide had blinked her eyes open to find herself back in the history classroom, she had been overwhelmed with relief. Indeed, she had been quite correct in that Instructor Lan was no Chronosian, and had no method to actually send them into the past. Whatever he had done, for as real as it had all felt, it had been little more than a simulacrum. A passage of history they could fiddle with without actually interfering and bringing down the wrath of the Time Police upon them all. A lesson that she had no need to examine further, and thus could proceed to day three of no looping.
Yet, that lesson haunted her for the rest of the day. Stefan acted no differently than usual, but Lord Falker had seemed almost…no, he certainly wasn’t worth dwelling on. A Corthyrian soldier probably told him his tie was crooked or some such, and he took it as well as a man with his ego size could. Sir Clint…well, he had been most unhelpful, but he had tried, she supposed. She didn’t know him near well enough to deduce if the simulacrum had affected him, and considering how he had failed to protect…
Who was it again?
There had been a third person with them, hadn’t there? Someone had gotten injured, yet she couldn’t recall their face…well, it must have been someone usually beneath her notice. Perhaps a servant? Or someone who was part of the simulacrum? Regardless, she hadn’t been impressed with Sir Clint making promises he couldn’t keep, as so many adults enjoyed doing.
Still, it was almost funny how quickly the forces at work had proved his word unreliable. As expected from a man who kept poor company.
But nevermind his performance. Adelaide knew she could have done better. Fled the road quicker. Found protection faster. But every time she considered undoing the day, her stomach threatened to fall to her feet. The lesson had taken that ephemeral edge of dreamlikeness, and yet she could not forget the fear that had filled her, the way her heart had beat so hard and so hot that it had pushed stressed tears out of her eyes. The urgent need to go back, and the horror of learning she couldn’t. She didn’t want to go through that again. What would be the point when the simulacrum had been, ultimately, harmless? Nevertheless, as much as she considered it all logically, she could not stop thinking of how she could have done better.
Not until she had received Riven’s invitation to tea the next day. Her dear friend had finally arrived in Utopia! They could finally see each other face to face again! There was so much to tell her, so many people to warn her against! She had her ladies-in-waiting clad her in one of her prettier dresses, with her hair pulled back in a simpler bun tied off with a matching ribbon. Then she spent her time waiting by watching her fish live their little lives in her aquarium, the seconds passing in the back of her mind agonizingly slowly.
When it was finally time, she made for the tearoom at a swift pace, heels click-clacking speedily down the halls until she finally arrived at the door. She didn’t bother knocking; Rivvy knew to expect her, and so she burst in with a bright,
"Rivvy!" There her friend sat, prim and proper as ever, her face long with a sadness that surely had to do with missing her just as fiercely as she had missed her.
Adelaide hurried over, clasping Riven’s hands in hers, and drawing her up to her feet to then engulf her in an enthusiastic hug.
"It’s been too long, I’ve missed you!" She pulled back to beam up at her. "We have so much to catch up on! How was the journey here?" ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

ωith: Addie︱ ωhere: Tea Room︱ мood: Anxious︱ σutfit: ✖ "Speaking." 'Thoughts.' All it took was the sound of her best friend’s voice to start to put her more at ease. Beaming at Adelaide’s arrival, " Addie! Thank the gods you are here." It still was shocking to Riven that a girl as elegant and talented as the princess allowed someone as low as Riven into their circle, but if she questioned it, Riven felt that was even more offensive than just welcoming the girl’s presence. Knowledge of Adelaide’s abilities made her relatively popular back home in Chronos, so Riven was happy the princess could make the time so quickly for her at Utopia. Given how talented and adorable she was, Riven was sure there were friends and suitors alike lining up at the door. But given how kind and generous a noble she was, Adelaide still made the time to meet with her today. Riven questioned whether or not she should bring that fact up, but chose to table it when the girl’s hands grasped hers. " I missed you too." Smiling back at Adelaide as she found herself wrapped in a hug. The warmth started feeling her soul up immediately at the gesture. Was it possible that she knew that her first day here was one she wished would disappear? Collecting herself, Riven prepared her response, " My journey was all right, I fear my stagecoach got lost, but that just allowed for me to get a better view of the beautiful terrain here." Hiding her discontent for the time being. Looking at the blue-eyed innocent girl before her, Riven worried about upsetting her too quickly. But if they were friends, Riven justified that Adelaide would want to listen to her qualms about the incident. " However, history class left me a bit disheartened," the girl started to explain, " I hope the rest of our days aren’t like that. If so, I may have to return to Chronos after all."Did Adelaide feel the same way? Riven wanted to make sure the princess was okay after the events of yesterday, " Are you okay? I found two men to protect me, luckily, but I was still scared." She admitted as much as she felt like a coward for doing so. " Was one of the good lords there at your side?" She hoped that the answer was yes, fearing the girl may have been left alone for the sick experiment.

It was good to see that she could still bring a smile to Riven’s face even with the time separating them. Perhaps even because of it. Time made the heart grow fonder, was that not the saying? Certainly, Adelaide felt plenty more fond of her friend’s sweet features than she felt she had the last time they had seen each other. There were so few friendly faces in Utopia, after all. To finally have a true ally at her back, one she could depend on, was a boon.
"How terrible!" she gasped, retaking one of Riven’s hands when their hug was concluded. "While it’s good to see the silver lining, Rivvy, you should fire that coachman at once if you haven’t already!"
Gently guiding the older girl to sit down beside her on the couch, Adelaide began to take care with how she sat so that the hoop beneath her skirt didn’t bend unnaturally, but paused as Riven brought up a topic she hadn’t been expecting. She…had attended that history class? To hear her profess the possibility of returning to Chronos over it had Adelaide’s heart flopping over like a dead fish. She took a shaky breath as she sat down.
"How awful, to have that class as your first day. My own was dance, thankfully, and it turned out quite well, so take heart! Not every class will be like Instructor Lan’s–not even every one of his own classes. It was an unusual lesson for him," she assured her, giving Riven’s hand a squeeze. "And everyone seemed quite cross with him, so I doubt he’ll be doing so again."
Something like relief settled over her to hear her friend had been safe, and then bitter resentment that she had had the good luck of finding decent men to hide behind. She tried to kick such notions aside; Rivvy was far more delicate than herself, while Adelaide…Adelaide could only ever count on herself at the end of the day. It was better that it had turned out the way it had. It was too late to try again anyway. A practiced smile crossed her face. Best not to worry Riven, the girl’s constitution wouldn’t be able to handle it very well.
"It–It went well enough, I was with two others, and I managed to reach the end of the simulacrum unharmed," she explained, bringing her heels together more tightly. To refer to Sir Clint as a lord felt…too high a designation for a man such as himself. He had hardly comported himself as one. "One was injured, but the other was able to patch them up, and then I found us means of protection, and…then we woke up. We’re all fine now, it was all just a dream, after all." ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
