Elara had spent that morning worried. She had sent word out to hear from one of the many servants that roamed the halls to help her find where Micah might be. Sure, she could roam around and look herself but she had already been doing that without much luck. He moved fast himself, that much she recalled, and that was inside a situation where she was thrown into not having her own normal powers. Something she wasn't used to and didn't enjoy. She had just begun to get over her nightmares from the class itself, and more importantly seeing the prince that she was apparently set to be engaged to killed. She knew that he realistically wasn't dead, she had seen him in passing after all, but honestly it stuck in her brain. The chances of her running into him with her first class? Yeah, that was pretty low. Although she brought him up to her parents in one of their discussions and she had a good feeling about him now.
She just had to find him.
So, when she was dressed in her pants and comfortable shirt, she was pulling her hair up into a half-up style and heard a knock at the door. " Come in!" she called out, her brown eyes glancing towards the door as she finished up. The servant girl bowed her head and reported in, earning an excited hug from the duchess without thinking and she went on her way. Elara tied up her shoes and made sure everything was okay before she tucked her glasses in the front of her shirt so that she had them with her just in case. She began to make her way over towards the halls nearby the music rooms, apparently, he went into a room and hadn't come out. She only hoped not to find him in a compromising position, although she wouldn't be able to get mad about it. Nor would she. Even though she had no experience, it wasn't a big deal considering where they were and if he even knew about them yet. If not, he wouldn't know better.
After she poked her head into a few rooms, coming up short, she pushed a door open and stopped. There he was! Her eyes lit up and she stepped inside, her eyes scanning over his lips and chest for a moment to make sure he was breathing. ' Okay good, we're not having a repeat nightmare.' she told herself with a small smile before she grabbed a chair nearby and brought it over, spinning it around as she leaned her chest against the back of it and pocketed her glasses. She watched him for a moment before reaching a handout and grinning. " Lord Micah, are you in a deep sleep or light sleep?" she knew his response, or lack thereof, would be her answer. She hesitated moments before she touched his hair and pulled her hand back. She wouldn't want someone to do that to her, so she wouldn't do that to him. For now, she would wait.

Micah was meant to be studying. He had made a plan, set a time, and even found a quiet place where he could study uninterrupted. Unfortunately those were also very good conditions for taking a nap. Sitting rooms were unsurprisingly very comfortable and a cozy, comfortable Micah was a sleepy Micah. The more he read and concentrated, the more his mind tried to wander away into the gentle embrace of Alhazin. How unfortunate for him that, in reality, it was nowhere near the actual evening! For the dozenth time Micah rubbed his eyes and finally closed the book he had been reading. It was his third time going over that last section and he still had not understood it. It was not a failing of his intelligence, but rather he just could not focus enough to absorb the words. There was just no helping it; he was in desperate need of a nap. Maybe he would have a good dream and that would inspire him anew. The prince turned around to drape his long legs over the arm of his seat and leaned to rest his head as his eyes drifted shut. His arms were crossed loosely over his abdomen and despite the awkward position he was soon drawing the deep, even breaths of sleep. Micah was an expert at sleeping in unusual places as he was a serial napper. Had been from birth, to hear his mother tell it. Micah did dream and it was a dream full of color, laughter, and dance as it often was. He could almost smell the incense and the light perspiration of the dancer he had managed to capture in his arms. Her dark eyes flashed with merriment and her laughter tinkled like bells from pretty painted lips. "Lord Micah, are you in a deep sleep or light sleep?" she asked and Micah’s mind somehow made sense of this, in the way that strange dreams often seemed to make perfect sense until the dreamer awoke. ”If I say a deep sleep, will you join me?”In the waking world where Micah was draped over a chair and it was Elara who had truly spoken those words, the man only shifted a bit in his sleep with an incoherent murmur. It was only when Elara’s hand reached out to almost touch him that the prince cracked open his sleepy golden eyes. He beamed at Elara and reached out toward her. ”Ah, so far away. How is a man to give into temptation when she dances out of reach?”He was still dreaming, though he was starting to slowly realize the reality of the sitting room that had replaced the outdoor pavilion and strewn cushions. The raven haired beauty who had danced into his arms now sported a mess of curls he wanted to tangle his fingers in. Micah blinked, but the pretty girl who had appeared before him with bright eyes and bountiful curls had not disappeared. She at least was not a dream. Micah groaned softly as he sat up, drawing his hand back to rub at his eyes. ”Not a dream, then?” he asked softly, as though he was still not certain. Why was Elara here? They had not planned to meet. Had they? The better question was did it matter? Why would he be anything but happy to see his fiance under any circumstances? Even if he did have to drag his mind back from thoughts of kissing her and holding her to him. ”Ah, I hope you did not have to watch me sleep for long! How boring for you. Did you come to see me or is this happy happenstance, hmn?”

Elara watched as he slept and he seemed to be deep in a dream, her lips curling into a smile as she leaned her arms on top of the back of the chair. After she asked her question, he only stirred slightly and something incoherent left him. She buried her mouth against her arms as she laughed softly. There was something about his carefree nature even while he slept that made her like him even more. Not only was he kind but he matched her energy and part of her wondered if her parents did this intentionally. When his eyes opened, she knew her face flushed slightly at his words and reached out towards her she didn't react right away, trying to calm her heart down before he seemed to awaken. She lifted her head so she could perch her chin on top of her arms, and she smiled at him. One arm draped down slightly as she answered his question he had asked while in a half-asleep state. " Ah, but dancing just out of reach keeps you chasing and the night moving." she couldn't help but feel a swell of happiness at the fact that he was either dreaming about dancing when that was one of the things she was good at and enjoyed.
As he fully woke up, she shook her head and sat up straighter. " Not a dream. I'm here and in person." She extended her arm out towards him as she held her palm open and facing up. " You can touch and feel for yourself!" she was half joking and half hoping he'd take her up on it because if she recalled how things were going in history class, he was quite warm to the touch. Something she loved the thought of. She then blinked softly and shook her head, her eyes closing as she grinned. " Not long, although you must have been dreaming something really nice." she had never had anyone catch her sleeping because she was always on the move and doing something new or something old that she was finishing up. Although she wouldn't mind taking a nice short nap sometimes if she had someone to cuddle up to, and she had a feeling he wouldn't mind if she ever asked for such a thing. All depending on what was required in his kingdom of course, because he was the crown prince she now knew. " A little of both, I was looking for you but had been searching through different rooms and conveniently found you here. I know it's kind of silly, but I wanted to spend some time getting to know you better, aside from walking around in history class like we were." especially since she was powerless the last time he saw her, both in the sense of her powers were switched and she was unable to do anything to help when that brute decided to kill him. She hesitated before the light in her eyes dimmed slightly. " And I wanted to make sure you were okay. I know it wasn't real, but I can't unsee what happened." she really hoped that he wouldn't make her repeat it, but even if he did, it would be a small thing to do.
She still had not forgiven the other man for his actions, nor did she think she would anytime soon.

Micah chuckled at the response and nodded his agreement. ”Of course, you are too right! Then keep dancing for me, my lovely Elara, so that I might chase you to the ends of the earth.” The prince grinned; some prizes were entirely worth the chase. A sweet, beautiful bride with bountiful curls and endless smiles was surely such a prize. Of course they were already engaged, whether he would chase or not, but where was the fun in letting that be that? Elara was a beautiful girl; she deserved to be courted and pursued properly. It was truly a shame that he had not yet made time to begin doing so! Elara extended a hand and Micah rolled from the chair to his feet, stepping closer and taking hold of that offered appendage in both of his. He pressed Elara’s palm to his stubbled cheek with a pleased smile on his face. ”Mmm, yes. Very real and pleasantly soft and warm.” He turned his head to kiss her palm affectionately. Ah, but perhaps he should have first made certain she knew that she was his bride to be? After all, kissing a girl out of the blue could earn him a slap even if it was just her hand. ”I was. It was a wonderful dream. I feel refreshed!” Micah leaned in with a grin, laying his arms loosely on the back of the chair as well so that they hung a bit to either side of Elara. ”And now I wake to an even better reality. Who could ask for more?”So Elara was looking for him. He supposed that was to be expected, it would be passing strange if they kept meeting by pure chance, but it still pleased him to hear it. ”Why would that be silly? I assume you have been sent word as well that we are to be wed. You are well within your rights to know the man who will be your husband. And I will be just as glad to know more about you, little Elara. I want to know all of the things that make you smile so that you never want for a single one of them as my bride. I do not think it is silly at all.”She was worried about him! Perhaps he should have been more worried, but he was alive. It likely had helped some that he should have died more than once before now, but he always lived. The demonstration in history class had felt so real, so very like the first time little Zahra had cried over him, but he had woken in the classroom as though it had not occurred at all. ”I regret that you had to see that. I regret that I failed to protect you. My regret only grew upon learning that you will be mine to protect for all time. I will not fail you again, Elara. You have my word. You need not worry for me; I am well. I am here, and alive. You can touch and feel for yourself.” Micah smiled as he repeated her words and took her hand to place it over his heart. ”If you still see what happened when you close your eyes, think instead of this moment here and now. Think of my heart beating strongly and my pledge to you that I will not leave you so easily. Let this be the light of truth that burns away the lingering shadow of doubt.”

Elara smiled right back, the thought of being able to keep up her active lifestyle even while everything was changing was an encouragement she didn't know she needed. Her eyes sparkled with a mixture of amusement and curiosity as she pressed her lips together and hummed. " And will you be dancing along with me or looking to be the arms I fall into when I cannot anymore?" either way, she didn't mind which one it was, but she watched him curiously all the same. She sometimes struggled with people because they didn't match her energy but even while he seemed a little more laid back, he was just as friendly, and it made her smile at the thought.
When he took ahold of her hand she tried to keep her heart from beating a little faster, but she couldn't help but flush slightly as he pressed her palm to his cheek and she could feel the heat from his touch as he did so. She brushed her thumb slightly against his skin, the stubble making her skin tingle slightly. she hadn't often found herself this close and affectionate with men outside her own family and it was a new situation for her. She didn't mind it though; in fact, she felt her lips spread in a wider smile when he turned his head and kissed her palm. She laughed softly under her breath, bringing her hand back and leaning her chin on both her arms when he leaned in. She tried not to get flustered from him being so close, because she knew they were meant to be wed, eventually. What better time to get to know him, then now? Before they made their way to Funkazan, and she had her life turned on its head even more than it already was. She really hoped there wouldn't be a whole lot of restrictions there, but she also knew she'd be in an entirely different position than now. She wouldn't just be a merchant's daughter, not anymore. She sat upright a little more, making herself a little more even with him in the process, her brain trying to calculate how much taller than her that he was, only coming to the conclusion that she'd either be doing a lot of going up on her toes or him leaning down. Even with him leaned over he was still taller than her sitting.
When he was both quick to reassure her that he didn't think her logic silly, and that he too had gotten word of the engagement she felt an immediate wave of relief. She was worried he might not know, and he had gotten to see a side of her that she didn't like others seeing when she had no access to her powers. Especially since her eyes were damaged without them, and she needed to be able to see. She nodded her head at his mention about her getting word as well and she tilted her head slightly to the side. " Yes, I did, it was surprising but even more so when I realized that I had run into you during my very first class here as well." she had shown up so late that she was glad she missed some of the things, but only to be thrown into that situation wasn't ideal either. She almost liked that about this school though; there was always another surprise waiting for her around the corner. She lifted one hand and brushed her fingertips along his cheek again as she looked up and met his gaze. " A pleasant surprise, at that." she knew there were some bad surprises too, and she was happy to not have dealt with a lot of them so far.
She couldn't help that she tensed as she thought about the class though, and what happened at the very end. She knew she had acted rashly, only saved by the fact that there was a teacher still right there. If he saw her slapping the taller man, she didn't know, but she didn't regret it. His words eased some of her worry and she smiled a little, although it was slightly forced for a brief moment. " I understand the point of the exercise, that war is everywhere, but that was definitely new." she hadn't ever really been cut or injured to that extent, and she flexed her hand that was still leaning against the back of the chair. She could sometimes still feel the metal moving through her skin, but she tried hard not to focus on it. " You did what you could, and you were not the one at fault. If he had only listened, and not acted so rashly, we would have been quite alright." she made a face before she felt him moving her hand and she blinked as she felt his chest under her hand. Her cheeks went red again, although not as much as before, and she looked up at his eyes before she closed her eyes and focused. She could feel his heart beating under her hand, and she breathed out her nose, almost a gentle laugh under her breath. " Who would have guessed that we would have been the ones to found each other then? Even if my vision wasn't cooperating with me, nor my reflexes." She then opened her eyes and smiled happily at him, her hand lingering for a moment longer against his chest before she tilted her head to lay against his left arm that was draped next to her. " I'm glad though, I felt guilty for running into anybody because I couldn't stop, usually I'm more quick on my feet than that." another thought popped into her mind, perhaps she would have to ask him about dancing and how he felt about it; especially if he was having dreams about it. " Do you have any questions for me?" she then asked, her eyes looking up at him both with curiosity and a unusual calmness, at least in the moment.

Micah laughed happily, the sound deep and rich and completely unfettered. ”Why both, of course! We will dance until we can dance no more and then we will somehow dance still until we fall into one another. I would have it no other way.” Maybe the metaphor was getting away from him by this point, but Micah did not care. He was still genuinely very pleased by it. How could he not enjoy the thought of collapsing, exhausted, with his bride in his arms after long nights of revelry? What wedding celebration was complete without it? Fortune had favored Micah this day; not only did Elara not slap him silly, but her face warmed with a soft blush at his antics. She really was a lovely girl, he thought. He had not looked at her quite so closely before, when they were navigating the dream of war. Of course he had noticed that she was pretty, he was not blind, but many girls were pretty. Many, many girls were pretty. And many pretty girls could be forgotten after a night of pleasures and a gift of jewelry. But Elara was his bride to be; her tawny eyes, carmel skin, button nose, and soft plush lips were worthy of etching onto his memory for the rest of his days. Her bright smile and tinkling laughter would be his to cherish. Another laugh spilled past Micah’s lips when Elara termed their meeting a pleasant surprise and he nodded. She was not entirely wrong, but it was rather strange to think of that experience as pleasant. They had both died rather violently, after all. But they had recovered, so it was… how did that phrase go? Water under the bridge? He did not fully understand that one, but he was sure he had the use of it right. All that remained now was to soothe the fears that lingered like shadows in Elara’s heart. He did not want her to worry for him. Not like this, at every waking moment when he was not in her sight. He was in no imminent danger. He was alive and well and much more survivable in reality than he was in the dream. He wondered how he might fare if he faced the war-painted barbarian again, but he would not risk it. There was no telling what a man with so much pent up violence might do in retaliation and he could not bear it if Elara or one of his siblings became a target in his stead. Micah just gave an understanding smile and listened as Elara insisted that the entire situation was the barbarian’s fault. It was a nice enough thought, that if everyone just behaved rationally there would be no need for fighting, but there was no reasoning with some people. That man wanted to hurt them, to hurt anyone it seemed, and nothing was going to stop him short of a greater force pushing back. Perhaps if Micah had been just a little quicker… He did not doubt that he was strong enough and skilled enough; he had held his ground remarkably well. But in the end he was the one who had fallen. Had he at least succeeded in overpowering his opponent, then perhaps he could have reasoned with him. Though Micah thought it more likely that he would have had to render the man unconscious or even kill him. Perhaps he should be grateful that was not the image waiting on the backside of Elara’s eyelids every night. ”Ah, you should not feel guilty for running into me. I am quite sturdy; you did me no harm and I was glad for the company. Besides, I am glad that we met before we received notice from our parents. I have always known that my first wife would be arranged for me by them and that has never troubled me. I always imagined I would learn to appreciate any woman of fine enough quality to pass their rigorous inspection. But it is so much easier this way; I do not have to learn to like you because I already do. How much easier then will it be to learn to love you? I look forward to it.”Did he have any questions for Elara? Micah hummed softly as he thought about it. For all that he had known this day would come, he had never thought to be curious about his future bride. He had no list of questions, no demands that other parties would not have already made her aware of, most likely. He really should have questions, he thought, but just trying to come up with any was making him feel a little sleepy again. ”Do you really like to dance? Metaphors aside. I think everyone should dance; I would love to see you dance someday.” Hmn, that was probably not the kind of question that Elara was expecting. Oh! He did have one! ”And how many children do you think we should have? At least one son, I know, but how many others?”

Elara couldn't believe her luck. Not only was the man that her parents chose for her very kind but he too enjoyed dancing. Surely they must have known this, or even if they did not, the universe was smiling down at her for this to be the case. Her laugh escaped her again as she listened to his reply to her question and she was suddenly very glad she was sitting down for the time being. At some point she knew they would probably end up dancing and while she was looking forward to that time, it would mean being very close to someone who she would be spending a lot of time with in the future. Now with him up close like this she was able to see him properly for the first time, her eyes shifting from his briefly before she took in his features. She knew there was something about him that had drawn her in and especially now she understood.
The topic of their engagement had come as a surprise to her, knowing that her mother was always looking for a way to tie the energetic girl down. She had been told many times that she was not only a flight risk but that her family worried about her. She didn't understand why they worried, it wasn't like she always made rash decisions. She had to admit that sometimes she did, although often she focused on all the points of whatever her current focus was. Like the time she was determined to sneak off while her father was in Shahiti of all places. She knew how dangerous it was, but that didn't stop her from hiding her identity and finding a festival. She could tell some people were wary of her but she was able to get the steps down quickly and to this day found herself enjoying that kind of dance even when here at the school. She didn't think she met anyone from there yet, unless that man from history class was, which that would make sense considering how dark his intentions were but she knew it also wasn't likely that straightforward.
She shook her head to move on from the thought before she focused back on Micah. She was relieved he was unbothered by her bumping into him and she relaxed her shoulders visibly before she registered part of his sentence that she didn't quite understand. She knew that a lot of things were different between kingdoms, perhaps this was one of them? " Your first wife?" her head tilted to the side slightly, no judgement mirrored in her eyes as she looked at him. " Is it normal to have multiple partners in Funkazan?" she had never quite heard about anyone doing that in her home but everyone was different and she knew it was probably not common for a traveling merchant to bring a child with them either, especially when she had a home back in one place and siblings she could have remained with. She wasn't going to dwell on the thought long and he provided her with just that, but in the form of something far more embarrassing. The thought of having a man like him like her was one thing, the thought that he was looking forward to loving her one day made the flush she already had darken on her cheeks. she looked down for a moment, pushing a strand of her hair back with her hand and smiling softly before she looked back up to him. " As do I..." she couldn't believe she had just admitted that, but she had.
Her mind cleared up immediately when he asked if she really did love to dance. She sat up straighter and her eyes lit up in a way that matched her smile. " Yes!" her answer came faster and with a little more energy behind it than she planned but that was nothing new. She shifted her arms back to the back of the chair, allowing herself to remain almost trapped between his arms as he had them draped over the back of the chair she was in. " I love dancing. It allows me to feel free in a way that I can't normally, and its a good way to connect to new people when words alone cannot convey what you want to say." she had very strong feelings about the topic and it was one of the things that once she got talking about it she had to be pulled away from the subject. " I don't know how much you know, but my father travels around and I make an effort to try and learn a dance from each place we frequented. Even sneaking off and learning them while he was working!" a soft laugh escaped her as she leaned forward a little again. She was so focused on what she planned on saying next that she completely missed his second question. " I've even probably gone places that I shouldn't have, even though it always ended well for me in the end. Once I practice a move once, each time I do it again it gets easier. Perks of what I was gifted with." Any previous rules about not speaking about your kingdom or identifying your powers were out the window. If they were meant to be wed eventually, they couldn't keep things hidden from one another.
In the temporary silence that stretched between them her brain caught up with his words and she fumbled. Blinking as if she wasn't expecting him to ask what he had. Wait, he was asking about children? As in how many they should have? She could feel her face getting hotter and she covered her mouth with one hand as she looked to the side. That was such a forward question and she wasn't expecting anything of that nature at this point. It wasn't like she hadn't thought about it before, but not this direct situation. Not when she was this close to the man she would be meant to have kids with! " I," she paused, clearing her throat before she spoke again. She had contemplated lying and saying she hadn't thought about it, but in the end she wasn't able to do that even if the answer was embarrassing. " I mean, yeah a son to secure the throne..." even she knew that logically a son would the one to take over if anything happened and while she hoped nothing would, they wouldn't always get so lucky with things not being truly real like in history class. " But I would like to have more than one, I have four older siblings and if I didn't have them around I would have been incredibly lonely my whole life. I don't want that for my, I mean, our kids." she swore she got redder the more she spoke but she finally managed to peek back over towards his gaze and shift her legs slightly. " Five is a lot, mom was overwhelmed so I don't know. Maybe three?" it was clear that she had, in fact, put a lot of thought into the subject.

Micah smiled when Elara mentioned his beloved kingdom, but lifted a finger to his lips and winked at her. They each knew from what kingdom the other hailed and they were alone, but he would not risk that the faculty might learn of their rulebreaking through some magical means. Better to just abide by the rules, even when they seemed utterly pointless. He dropped his arm over the back of the chair once more before replying. ”It is among the more powerful and elite families, yes. I will be expected to father many children, many more than any one woman should have to bear and rear alone. But the first wife is truly first among them; it is a title that will give you the greatest power in my household beneath my own.” Micah watched Elara’s face as he spoke, wondering how she would take this information. It was all very normal to him and he had not really considered that it might be surprising to his bride to be. Perhaps her mother should have explained this to her? Surely she knew? But if it fell to Micah to do, then he would do his best. ”As my first wife, you will of course have a say in any other women I marry in the future. They will be not only mine, but your sisters as well.”At least his fiance did not seem overly troubled by this new information. That was good; they were getting along so well and both looking forward to knowing one another even better. He would hate for that to be ruined just because they came from very different cultures. Elara’s face lit up and she sat straighter in her chair when Micah asked her more directly about dancing. A wide grin split his features as he listened to her eager response. Ah, he was glad to hear it! Many of his people loved to dance, but few had the passion for it that he did. It was the only thing he never got tired of. Would Elara be able to keep up? Perhaps, and perhaps not, but it pleased him to think that she would certainly try to. They would dance their nights away. ”Oh ho? Naughty, naughty Elara. But there will be no need to sneak away from me; we will dance together. Perhaps you might even teach me a few new dances.” With the war raging on for the entirety of his life, Micah could not say that he had the opportunity to learn very many foreign dances, but he was certainly open to the experience. There was silence for a bit and Micah began to wonder if he should repeat his second question. Or maybe it was rude to speak of children before the wedding in Mercury? He could not say that he was very familiar with their customs at all. But finally Elara responded, though she sounded rather nervous about it. Her face was as red as a ripe berry and he lifted a hand to gently stroke a warm cheek with a smile. She had no need to be so shy around him; she would be his bride! Then again, it was rather appealing and he did hope she was as blushingly beautiful for their wedding night. ”Mmm, three is a good number. I do hope at least one is a girl as lovely as her mother.” Micah murmured dreamily through smiling lips as he continued to stroke Elara’s cheek with his thumb. Then his fingers trailed down her neck slowly before he seemed to remember himself and redirected to playing with her curls. But he did not apologize; would it not be more strange if he did not want to touch the woman that would someday be his? ”You will have servants to help with the children, of course. And later your sister wives. My own mother only nursed me for a short time before a nursemaid was found for me. Not that I am asking you to bear more than three children; that is a fine number.”
“Now, do I have more questions…? Ah! Yes, though it might be too vague. As I said before, I want to know everything that makes you smile so you long for nothing. Tell me, what hobbies and activities do you enjoy outside of dancing?” He wanted to give his wife the world, but that only mattered if he gave her a world full of the things she enjoyed, after all.
