"Speaking." 'Thoughts.'
At the rate at which Riven was going, the duchess was considering a job in law enforcement and giving up on love entirely. She hoped in an academy full of eligible suitors that one of them might lay eyes on her for a change, but most times it was her attempting to save them from themselves, and today was no different. Another day, another cute boy, unknown to potential danger. At least this one was rather simple. The fit man was just lost in Utopia, nothing to be embarrassed about, but Riven would have preferred meeting this person in a more stereotypical way, like she had read about in her stories.
Where were all the balls and weddings she was promised?
There had only been one wedding so far, and from what Riven had understood, that ceremony was more drama than it was about the promises to commit to one another. But Riven couldn’t definitely say as she wasn’t in attendance. Without Addie’s reassurance, it was hard for her to make such choices. If she had gone alone, there was the chance of her embarrassing herself even further. The only time she didn’t ask for that reassurance was when it came to cute boys.
Then it was time to follow her heart.
Scanning the hallways, they were looking familiar to those she had seen in her dream. The portrait hall was easy to get lost in, given how many of the portraits tended to look the same. Riven had sworn there were duplicates, but Addie had assured her that was not the case. And despite what her art group tried to tell her, Lady Adelaide was never wrong. She said so herself. Who was Riven to correct her?
Looking ahead, she spotted a man ahead,
' He doesn’t look too lost. Just focused.' Was it possible her vision was wrong? It wouldn’t be the first time. The issue with her dreams was that they were difficult for her to fully predict if she awoke too early, but she was here now; it would be strange of her to say nothing and run the risk of him thinking she had followed him here.
" Excuse me sir?" Her voice squeaked slightly as she attempted to interrupt the man’s cycle of thought,
" Might there be something you are looking for?" She offered a kind smile as she spoke, nervous to be too forward about her intentions.
