I have a perfect Name!
Species Name: Stinky trash babies Mapa'lapa'achi
Meaning: A play on the Aztec word for raccoon mapachitli, which means, "[the] one who takes everything in its hands." Figured it was fitting since Kiya said they do everything with their hands, and they are trash babies!

Lore Story:
(Using the name I suggested above, but it can gladly be changed to whatever name is chosen!)

Their original homeland is a mystical land shrouded in mist from the east. Humid, hot, with dense forests for them to climb and forage through. These creatures are tree dwellers that are used to climbing through the canopy their entire lives to avoid predators, only coming down onto the forest floor when something particularly worth their interest caught their eye.

For the Mapa'lapa'achi, there was no more sacred a place than the great mother tree Ey'ggdracili. Believed to be connected to the literal root of the world, it was where all Mapa'lapa'achi came for social events, special ceremonies, funerals, and where kits were traditionally born for good luck and safety amongst the boughs. It had been a central part of their culture for as long as they could remember, and was thought to be an indistrucible force of nature itself.

They would soon be proven very, very wrong.

It started as any other storm. Rain, thunder, and strong winds were present, but nothing abnormal for the tropical region Mapa'lapa'achi was from. As a safety measure, since Ey'ggdracili was the strongest structure around, the Mapa'lapa'achi flocked to it to hunker down for the storm and ride it out with their fellow kin, swapping stories and foods while the rains pounded against their home.

It started with the flooding; the rain had begun to come down so hard that the lower levels of the Ey'ggdracili began to flood - a feat that had never been heard of before! Then, the winds grew stronger. A deafening roar echoed outside the tree as the winds battered it, only being broken up by the loud crunch of limbs being ripped right from the canopy.

Finally, the storm surge came. An immeasurable rush of water ate the forest floor and the giant roots of Ey'ggdracili beneath their choppy waves. Pushing, pulling, straining the old tree's strength, demanding that everything in its path submit to its will.

Ey'ggdracili, the very root of the world, couldn't stand against the overwhelming power of the storm.

Snap.

Crack.

Boom!

In the blink of an eye, Ey'ggdracili's roots, once believed to be connected to the world's core, ripped from the ground and snapped from pressure as the tree toppled over. The Mapa'lapa'achi could do nothing but hang on tight and pray as they were trapped inside. They had entrusted their safety to it before; they would trust it to keep them safe now.

The storm surge eventually retreated back from its path of destruction, taking Ey'ggdracili and the population of Mapa'lapa'achi with it out to sea. They spent days floating adrift on the open ocean. They were confused, scared, and wondering what would become of their fate. They were surviving on the very small rations they had brought in preparation for riding out the storm. The leaders of the Mapa'lapa'achi preaching one mantra over and over: Trust in Ey'ggdracili. Trust it would bear them to safety.

Eventually, it did just that.

An unknown land stretched over the horizon. Tall, imposing mountains, unlike anything they had ever seen, dotted the landscape. It was unlike anything they had ever seen before!

They had been safely carried to Misty Mountain Island. What fates awaited the Mapa'lapa'achi in their new home, however, remains a story to be told.

(This story is heavily inspired by the real-life example of island migration as seen with Madagascar! The idea that a significant population of mammals could be blown onto vegetation and trees on remote islands during a storm is something we have theorized in the past, and I find it really interesting!)

Lore Story: ("Tanu'neko" can be replaced with chosen species name)
The "Tanu'neko" are a clever and mischievous race, known for their love of tricks, pranks, and witty wordplay. Born tricksters, they take joy in elaborate jests and poetic banter, often spinning entire performances around a single punchline. But beneath their playful nature lies a deep-rooted sense of community—generations have thrived through the strength of family.

One of their oldest and most beloved legends is a tale passed down through countless moons: The Grand Joke.

Long ago, it is said, a particularly bold “Tanu'neko” declared—half in jest, half in dream—that they would grow wings and fly away to a distant land, a place where peace reigned and harmony danced through the trees. The others laughed, as they always did, for such a thing had never been heard of. Wings? On a “Tanu'neko?”

But then, the mists came.

A soft, shimmering fog enveloped the entire gathering. When it cleared, the laughter turned to awe—for each “Tanu'neko” had grown a pair of strong, magical wings. Together, they soared into the skies, carried by wonder and whimsy, until they reached the legendary Misty Mountains, where they made their new home.

Today, most “Tanu'neko” live in the Pine Forests nestled along the mountain slopes, their laughter echoing through the trees. But some have ventured beyond, settling in grassy domains, bringing their mischief and their ‘magic’ with them wherever they go.
