Quote:
Players must roll a 6 sided dice to progress in the game. If you have not reached the end of the boardgame after five rolls, double the number of your dice roll and move that many spaces. If you are roleplaying with a partner, you will each need to roll the dice per post; while you will likely not end up on the same spaces, you can still communicate with each other as you progress through the gameboard. You cannot stop on any space you have not rolled; you cannot go ahead, and you cannot lag behind. An invisible force will prevent you from moving to any space you have not rolled and will also push you onto the specific space you have rolled.

These prompts are inspiration; you are free to modify them somewhat but your post must clearly be inspired by where they have landed. Players can choose to take the sensation of pain that either ends when they leave their square or when they leave the game board, or they can keep any damage they like.

If you are roleplaying with a partner, the effects can be observed (and sometimes felt) in nearby squares if you choose to play it in that way!

Space 0:
You have arrived here; nothing happens until you roll your die.

Space 1:
You feel eyes upon you, and hear a faint chuckling, like you’re the butt of someone’s joke. It sets a bad mood for the rest of this game; you’re already being judged–and, it looks like a long road ahead.

Space 2:
Something pale and ghostly slams into your back; you don’t see it, but it feels like it’s trying to push you forward–or to the side, or off the path. Thankfully, the magical glass walls stop you from going too far, but this is jarring–and might hurt.

Space 3:
A strange fog rolls in once you land here. You lose sight of nearly everything, including the game board. If you want to roll, you’re going to have to get close to the ground to even see where you’re supposed to go next. Hopefully nothing sneaks up behind you.

Space 4:
Something smells rotten. You can’t see very far into the darkness, but if you squint closely a dark form seems to be dragging itself along the ground. Sometimes you see a pale hand almost close enough to grab you–or, maybe something does grab you. It’s cold, and frightening, and it’s trying to drag you out of bounds.

Space 5:
A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.

Space 6:
You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.

Space 7:
Something is twitching and flapping above you, and while you might be minding your own business, something is a little too invested in what you’re doing. You can’t see them, but you suddenly hear shrill, high pierced noises that are disorienting and confusing. They can bring about dizziness and pain and can cause vertigo if you’re stuck in them for too long.

Space 8:
Something slithers across your foot, so fast that you might have thought you imagined it. Except, a few seconds later, it happens again. And then, again. Snakes keep moving across your space. If you move, they see you–and they might bite. Some of them hiss, some are capable of spraying a poisonous liquid that can cause itchiness or burning.

Space 9:
The smell of saltwater fills the air, and you can hear the water lapping against the shore. You hear boards creaking, and bells in the distance. And then, a song. Haunting. Ghostly, and calling you. For a second, you fall in love. And then, water fills your lungs. You’re choking, you can’t breathe. The song is loud and seems to caress you, even as a wet chill gathers in your square. Scaly hands reach for you, you gently caressing, and try to lure you into an endless sleep.

Space 10:
A swampy smell fills the air. You take a step, and you seem to sink into it. Mud creeps over your feet, and you sink rapidly. Ankle deep, knee deep. Whether or not you squirm and fight against it, you are sinking. The mud is crushing and painful, and if you sink too deep it steals the breath from your lungs. There’s nothing to grab onto; you have to roll your dice quickly before that too gets sucked into the muddy quicksand.

Space 11:
You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again.

Space 12:
The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.

Space 13:
At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal.

Space 14:
The ground is sticky. You land on this and immediately dip, as though you’ve stepped on a trampoline. Close inspection reveals that you are standing on an intricately woven web–and your shoes are stuck. And something is skittering just on the horizon.

Space 15:
Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here.

Space 16:
As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet.

Space 17:
Something howls in the distance. It’s loud and echoes with such ferocity it seems to shake you. On the other side of you–another howl. Closer. This one is loud enough to hurt your ears. The ground trembles with the force of something charging at you. A growl, a snarl. Yellow eyes staring you down. There’s not just one monster out there–there’s several, and they’re all coming for you.

Space 18:
You smell something poison, something noxious. You pass through a haze of strange, green gas as you enter the square, but it fades after a few seconds. You feel cold. You feel empty. You start to decay. Maybe a part of you knows it’s an illusion, but in that split second when your body feels like it might go limp and when you look at your hand and see skin melting. You see bone. You’d best roll the dice so you don’t wind up a skeleton prop for the next player.

Space 19:
You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again.

Space 20:
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

However...if you have already acquired a die from last year, or if you are unlucky enough to encounter the gameboard twice this year, you may notice that the opalescent fissures of the dice glow when close to each other. There's no telling what this might mean, but you'd best be safe about it.

Things had taken...a turn, the previous night. but that didn't mean they had given up on the prospect of a team training and bonding exercise via torture dimension. And finally, at last, in the middle of a children's playground, the city finally provided them with a small pile of dice.

"I knew we were close," she insisted. "I'll send out texts to our third rank members if you'd like to summon those below..." she couldn't bring herself to number any of them as below Borax, so she just awkwardly finished the request there.

team message sent via tablet

We have discovered a suitable cache of dimensional dice for a team activity. Please come to these coordinates within the half hour if you are interested. There will, of course, be tea and refreshments should you so desire.

If your character is below 3rd rank, feel free to have them force summoned!

Out patrolling on his own, Ilmari hadn’t had any particular plans tonight, but he perked right up, hearing a message come in on his Negaverse tablet. His eyes grew brighter seeing that it was from Miss Hestia (who seemed, to him, pretty much the epitome of all perfect things that a senshi of the Negaverse could hope to be; worth aspiring to be even half as good as she was, someday). Any missives from her were to be taken with the utmost seriousness and dutifully met, head on, giving no quarter unless instructed to do so.

Even so, the message itself made his face fall and his shoulders sag, throwing off his previously perfect posture.

October had started, and Miss Hestia’s message had mentioned dice. After last year’s little misadventure, Ilmari had a good idea of what that meant and he didn’t like it. However, if he failed to show up when called for a whole-team activity—something that they desperately needed after the absolute s**t-show of the past few months since the Calamitous Hollow had been all……sparky and disgusting and wrong—then that could be held against him later. Given as evidence that he didn’t give the team his all and his best efforts. Evidence that he’d let them down and probably would again.

Taking a deep breath, Ilmari pulled a water bottle out of his subspace and teleported right to the coordinates listed. Miss Hestia was there, and General Borax, and Ilmari met both of them with a quick salute—all the affirmation needed that he was here for whatever was coming tonight. Falling back behind her, he took a long drink and waited to see who else would join them. (Selfishly, Ilmari hoped that Albite would be among them. He……required a great deal of looking after, and Ilmari worried.)

The evening had begun quite grandly between a robust dinner and a few glasses of wine. A delightful buzz pervaded him, enough to daub his lips and fingertips with cotton. Enough for his eyelids to feel just a touch heavier. He'd struck the perfect balance of tipsy and sober, as if by fate, and that freedom from inhibition was ever a necessity for the night that he would play something for his boy.

Another glass of wine sat next to him on the bench, untouched. A reminder that he wouldn't have to sober up slowly during a performance.

Feeling pleasantly relaxed and unburdened, Eles brought his hands to rest carefully atop the silent keys. Then his eyes raised up to meet the sheet music and

the empty playground unfurled before him like a mediocre nightmare. His hands dropped and, without the piano to support them, they hung at his sides. Faustite blinked away the fleeting image of their abode — the dramatic lighting, the lit candles, the chaise — as if a daydream.

It may as well have been. As he looked about, senses scrambling to comprehend the disconnect between a moment ago and now, he saw two people he'd met before: Borax and Hestia. Given that Hestia sought him out before, Faustite was willing to bet money that this conundrum was Borax's fault.

So he greeted him with all the respect Faustite thought he deserved. "What the ******** class="quote">

The buzzing of a text coming through had Waru pause mid-feeding the remains of his three nights ago leftovers to his trash bin of a tri-brained ibis on steroids. He'd never asked the cosmic creature where the hell it put it all, if it had the stomach structure of a cows? Doubtful that Cerb's would answer him with anything but slow, baleful blinks and half-cawed sass even if he bothered to do so.

"Huhn..." Contemplative as he scanned what felt like the beginning to a spooky picnic invite. It'd been a minute since they'd done anything together like this. Tea sounded nice. Maybe board games?

He squinted as the familiar word jogged something in his brain.

Dice....dice...dieee....

"OhmyshitEverlee..." The word a rush-sighed single syllable that ended with a groan as Waru left the rest of the containers that needed to be gone through in the sink and fetched his 'going out' attire. Pirate Eyepatch? (Courtesy of Haymitchel - Mau-eye pending.) Check. Henshin pen? Check. First aid kit? Check. Silver sulfadiazine cream--- his mouth shaping into a frown as he realized how overly prepared he was for things he may not ever need be prepared for again. The hurt for that stung, like a thorn he couldn't dig out. <******** it, better to be overprepared than underprepared, right?

"Are you coming?" A last glance at the be-winged beast besieging his sink on spindly, clawed legs. The fact that Cerbs craned snake-like around to level him with three sets of glaring silence. "N'that feels like a solid 'No'-- What -- you *cant* be sick of void spaces n' the great abyss already? Tch, chicken." He tutted gently, all wry sarcasm and half-grin before stepping off into the only place he could imagine was spookier than a graveyard at Christmas...

A park.

"Of all the ********' places for this s**t t'be." Half whispered as he shivered for the atmosphere more than the cold (Hoes don't get cold!) his mood warming at the sight of Ilmari, and Hestia, and---

Out from under the protective (read: watchful and supervising) eye of his sister for the night, Villiaumite had taken to a bit of energy gathering for the evening. He had just managed to collect from a few more folks at the club before slipping out the back. Sighing to himself in relief as the cool air hit him, he pulled his phone out as it buzzed. Dimensional dice? What in the hell did that mean? About to message Ako, his thumb hovered over the button. It specifically said it was for the team, after all. It would be rude to bring his sister along to something that was supposed to just be for the team.

Taking note of the coordinates, he slipped his phone back into his pocket and made his way towards the meeting spot. It wasn't long before everything seemed to shift around him and he felt himself... pulled for a lack of better description. Taking a second to steady himself, Villiaumite blinked as he looked around curiously at where he had been summoned to. Some had already gathered, so he lifted a hand in a friendly wave, grinning. "Hi there." He glanced around for the one familiar face he might know and suppressed a frown when he noted Fafnir wasn't there. Welp. It seemed it was time to make use of his people skills.

"Below me?" finished Borax, glancing to the side and downward toward Hestia. Perhaps she was unwilling to state the truth. He would not hesitate to fill in the blanks as he faced forward. "It would be my pleasure."

Hestia was right. They had been close. They might've potentially been closer than they thought the prior night, but pushing that thought aside, Borax pulled on the energies of the lower ranked people in their team. One by one, they started appearing, whether they wanted to or not. Something was incredibly gratifying about their appearances.

He nodded to them as they appeared, and offered a jocular, "Sometimes these things aren't our choice!" to Albite, which likely seemed just as cryptic as the initial message. He kept that general smug impression on his face even when confronted by his former(?) team lead.

"Hestia," he tilted his head in her direction, "and I noticed something that we thought would be a good team training exercise. We have some tea over there," he gestured to a picnic table not quite at the dice cluster, "if you want something warming to help before we get started."

(Only quoting the people he directly addressed, but he is nodding at everyone as they arrive!)

The three headed creature may not have been going with him, but Haymitch was. He'd been sticking close to Albite since dealing with Harold and the fallout of Faustite being disintegrated then reconstituted. His senshi was depressed and going off the deep end - no matter how Lithy tried to help - and not exactly making the best decisions.

Not that Haymitch could really keep his senshi from doing literally anything in a drunken stupor, but he tried to provide support and cuddles and affection. And a wicked eyepatch while he tried to figure out some sort of replacement eyeball. Eyeballs were so weird, Mau tech ones even more so! The latest few prototypes were more goop than eyeball. He'd gotten the code down for the most part but the device was, ah, not agreeing with him.

He'd get there. Eventually. Until then. Cool eye patch!

Haymitch climbed Albite's locks to perch on his shoulder. He felt the studder of Albite's emotions as they popped into existence at the park, and his eyes fell on Faustite. Captain, no longer a General Soverign, with missing memories and a life outside of Albite. He purred, brushing his senshi's cheek with his head.

"I'm here~"

The purring presence atop his shoulder reminded him to *breathe*. As the pinhole his world had narrowed into widened back out to encompass all the rest of the team in attendance. Tilting his head to nuzzle Haymitch back in silent gratitude, while mouthing his thanks into furry, black-tipped ears. He wasn't alone. It was fine. He was glad to see Faustite, to hear the man's righteous indignation aimed at Borax. To spy with his one little eye the new face of someone pink haired and very freshly a lieutenant...

Fafnir's subordinate?

And of course Borax had to sound oh so proud of himself. He was sorely tempted to step on the preening Generals feathers. But not Hestia's, never hers, and if this was to be their tandem run training regime? Well then--

"Warm drink's probably a good start for all the uninitiated in...ahhm..'team bonding exercises'...." He huffed congenially, a suggestion paired with a smile half tucked behind a fall of dreads and Haymitch's warm pelt.

Ilmari arriving promptly enough that Borax didn't get a chance to force summon the super was a pleasant sight. Giving him an approving look, she settled in to wait on summons and arrivals. And she was immediately rewarded with the sight of her leader. Beaming, she offered him a small bow.

"Sir, it's a privilege to have you accompany the team for this bonding and training exercise. Your new perspectives as an agent, accompanied by your ever pragmatic mind, are invaluable. Particularly in regards to our newer recruits."

Nodding to Ilmari and completely ignoring Borax's rudeness, she began introducing people, "This is Super Ilmari, who is very hardworking and strives to meet expectations, and..."

And Eternal Albite appeared, which, as always, made Hestia's eyes practically sparkle. "Well, General Borax and Eternal Albite you're already familiar with. With Albite, you may note the dapper Mauvian in the hat, who is our very fashionable Haymitch." Gesturing to their newest member, she went on, "This is Lieutenant Villiaumite, who is new and under Eternal Fafnir."

Where Eles had been settling down to play the piano, Jayce had just stepped into the shower. He had enough time to turn the water off before Borax's summons pulled somewhere around his navel. His hair dripped water onto his uniform as he appeared in the park. It took a moment for Litharge to orient where he was and why he was here. At least he wasn't buck a** nude.

He glanced over the crowd for a moment as people continued to pop into existence. He wasn't quite used to recognizing Faustite as Eles. Faustite, to him, was this short king with a furnace for a torso. This Faustite, no longer a King but a Captain like he was, felt... foreign. Eles felt familiar (he better, given how thoroughly he'd explored the blonde boy) but seeing him with the glamour of Faustite over him was still unsettling. A very weird case of deja vu, where his memory tried to overlay the old Faustite with the new, and it sort of 404'ed.

It would take time for it to really set in, but he was nothing if not patient. Besides, now he couldn't get in trouble for sleeping with the higher ups.

Hestia was introducing people and he raised a hand in greeting. "You literally caught me buck a** nude in the shower, Borax. So thanks for that." His tone was jovial and he was all smiles, despite his words. There were probably worse positions to be summoned from, and it did clothe him so... He couldn't be too upset.

"I'm Captain Litharge," he said to Villiaumite, shoving his soaking wet hair into a bun with a tie he pulled from his subspace. No more wet hair in his eyes, thank you very much!

The fact that someone knew his name and took the time to introduce him made Villiaumite light up vibrantly. Hestia, he had heard her called. He would have to make a point to talk to her later. Right now, he was focusing on names and faces, or at least as much as he could with so many unfairly gorgeous people before him. In the back of his mind, he felt pretty amused that that old song was possibly right, and that heaven really was a place on earth.

As he looked over the faces of everyone that was gathering, he definitely allowed himself to be appreciative of the sight. A man with a cat on his shoulder caught his attention, and he not so subtly looked him over. Albite, he heard him called. Oh. Eternal Albite. Ako had definitely told him not to piss off any third levels, and to mind his manners with them. But surely just looking and appreciating the view was acceptable right? Though someone else drew his attention away completely almost instantly.

The small blond swearing at Borax had Villiaumite's attention entirely (though small was relative when he himself was over six feet tall), and he couldn't help it as he made his way over to him. "Lieutenant Villiaumite, at your service." He gave him a charming smile, all the warnings his sister had given him about not flirting with coworkers going right out the window. Though there was something familiar about the person in front of him, Villiaumite couldn't place it, but it made him want to talk to him even more.

As a very damp man appeared next, Villiaumite had to stifle a laugh at his unfortunately timed summons. As he introduced himself, Villi nodded and briefly glanced away from the blond in front of him to respond. "Lieutenant Villiaumite."

As everyone else assembled, Ilmari helped himself to some of the tea. Any other refreshments were fine for everybody else, he guessed, but he didn’t need any. Better to ignore that possibility and just have something that he knew (or at least could expect with some reasonable degree of certainty) to be safe. It wouldn’t have been like Miss Hestia to mess with the tea, he silently reassured himself as a blonde Captain teleported in.

For all he’d heard some of the Recent Faustite Updates, Ilmari hadn’t yet seen what had become of the once half-youma, once General-King. Part of Ilmari didn’t want to believe what stood before him now—didn’t want to believe that Faustite had truly fallen into such a state—but there was no mistaking how both Albite and Miss Hestia reacted. In particular, Miss Hestia had only, to Ilmari’s knowledge, ever shown such deference and respect to Faustite himself. So, no matter what state he’d come into, this had to be him.

A quick nod for Ilmari’s technically-probably-still-superior(?), then, before Ilmari went to fetch the tea for Albite. (On one hand, Ilmari still defaulted to getting Albite whatever he needed, and unless Albite abruptly developed several more degrees of common sense than he normally had on display, Ilmari didn’t entirely foresee that changing. On the other, with Albite’s currently less than ideal depth perception could have easily resulted in all the cups of tea getting spilled all over the little playground. Better for somebody, like Ilmari, to bring Albite the drink he’d expressed an interest in.)

Once he’d handed the tea off—holding on to it until Albite firmly had his hand around the cup so it wouldn’t end up on the ground—there was someone else who needed attention. Well, two someones. But unless Litharge particularly wanted kitty-cookies, homemade with fresh tuna and egg, Ilmari wasn’t pulling anything from a ziploc bag in his subspace that would interest his housemate. Haymitch, however, had been working overtime to try and help Albite recently, especially with replacing the eye he’d lost. So, Haymitch had absolutely earned all of the treats.

“If we need someone to go first,” Ilmari said, looking toward Miss Hestia, “then I’ll volunteer.”

It only made sense. He was the youngest person here, and didn’t have the bat wings attached to his lower back and the seniority that came with them necessary to override his youth. Taking initiative, Ilmari didn’t wait for Hestia to affirm or refute his idea. He simply looked at the pile of dice and let their siren call into his mind. He crouched down to pick one up, and once he found himself on the gameboard’s trail, stayed in that position so he could roll.

Didn’t end up amounting to very much. Inching forward a single space, Ilmari settled in and sipped his tea. Some unseen voice saw fit to laugh at him, and that did raise Ilmari’s hackles. But the team would be along in due time. In all likelihood, none of them would enjoy this little exercise, but at least doing this with comrades was better than suffering alone.

Now that he had successfully summoned the bulk of his (newly) underlings, the question became when they would stop chatting with each other and working on introductions and work on the actual exercise.

This was enrichment. It was team bonding by forcing themselves through an exercise together, one that would put some of them through the ringer. Borax was okay with this. They needed it. All of them did, even Faustite, who remembered little of his prior life

Little enough that Borax was the one filling in the blanks on the Negaverse side with looking at datavase entries and references to Faustite's prior adventures and attempts to grow the Negaverse by helping the youma and helping all of them as a general king.

A general sovereign he currently was no longer.

When Ilmari volunteered to be the first, Borax offered a nod and a proud smile.
