So I was digging about what I thought was the "gold fairy" I got her name wrong because she actually called the "Welcoming Fairy" I think I remembered it as gold fairy because her avatar is a gold fairy and I mostly ignored her tips messages and just clicked the gold links.

But she was introduced in 2013 as part of the new Welcoming system for new users and for 30 days she would pm you with tips and "tricks" on how to navigate the site and also every day give you a "generous" amount of gold, typically 10,000. I belive she was introduced since the old welcoming "quests" where mostly missed or largely ignored because they wasn't set up as a pm oringally it was more a click around to find things style welcoming set up.

I also belive they made her message you everyday for 30 days to make new users come back everyday for a entire month and make it become a daily site people would develop a habit to use even after the Welcoming Fairy would stop messaging you. I'm pretty sure that why useage of the site boomed around this time period as well.
