Brief Pride History: Called Lakelanders by those whom see them, the Celestial Lake pride is old but storied. Archibvists by nature, the Celestial Lake is an area held by a pride is secretive and quiet. With a recent selection of new leaders from rogues, the Lakelanders prepare to face the future with pride, and caution, ever wary of the judgemental eyes of other prides.

Culture and Territory
The Land is a gift to us...

The stars changed and occasionally still do. The Lakelanders believe that the priginal stars made the land, water, plants, and animal life. The sun and moon guard the pride day and night. wardens of the night and day.

Being old, the pride recouynts their founders as being stars descended to found the pride. These founders established a territory around a large, clear lake with a clear view of the sky. The edge of one side possesses a waterfall and massive hill with caves used for dens, and the largest maintains an archive of pridal history. This lake is surrounded by a massive, trhick, heavy jungle, making finding the pride itself difficult, but affords them both protection and food from hunting. The pride welcomed leopards to aid in navigating the jungle. The pride tolerates others in the jungle, but not near the lake -- they often slip out to seek the lost and guide them where the stars dictate,
while the lands themselves provide.

The pride recognizes a dry season, and wet season. The dry season affords ample hunting, and allows the pride to seek prey freely, however 'enemies' and 'criminals' as it is phrased. The pride believes the wicked must face the storms, the stars' judgement, to be cleansed or executed by lightening, although as they avoid conflict, this is rare and in wet seasons largely adults hunt. This is largely to protect cubs and adolescents, though the pride will also keep the sick and infirm in their dens as well.

The pride is surprisingly non-aggressive, minus the guards, nor does it possess royalty. Leadership is assigned on instead diplomacy and merit. Those with leadership skills and skills in a task alone will lead, though those with stats on their pelts - be it resembling thbe night sky or more abstract formns (E.G. anything considered a 'star') will gain the additional marker of 'Blessed'. This is simply the pride believing the stars smile favorably upon that member, and nothing more.

The pride favors wearing colorfor pelts or items, although guards wear horns and claws and teeth to appear respecially frightening to intruders. Those whom make it unescorted past guards and are uninvited, are often watched but not chased away. They will be treated wioth kindness, and they will be allowed to remain if they are peaceful and afford interest or offer skills or talents the pride needs.

The p[ride is diplomatic, and will send Diplomats to speak to other friendly prides to learn about them - hostile prides or 'evil' are avoided. Suimilarly, the pride does modernly accept the stars as the ancestors, believing ancestors and the dead awscend to the heavens to watch over the land, while clouds and winfds are the breath, will. and judgement as well as presence of the ancestors and stars. Lightening is considered how the stars strike down the wicked, though this is also how the stars claiom the good if they seek them. While rare, the pride knows of tornados, and they see these landripping events as more how the stars reshape the land. Those killed in tornados are honored for their life, but the pride sees nothing special in it past the whims of ancestors. The pride otherwiuses reads celestial events as they come and record them - incluiding supernovae, alluding to the age of the pride. As supoernovae are rare, lions and ally animals born under a supernova are considered to be descended stars, regardless of pelt, and as such are called Starborn, however, this is so rare it is not in living memory... For now.

Archiving and BPractices
We remember the past...

The pride devised an a means of archiving knowledge early and operates with a combination of oral tradition and pictographs compatible with paws *so using Lion King paw logic). This is a series of pictographs representing words and names, instead of letters, syllables, or consonants. These pictographs are a mix of lines, spots, dots, or very crude shapes to record information. The archives record basic information, leaders, events, and history, however the pride records rrare events outaide their territory. Events like Scar's reign, for example, to the coming of a new pride or loss of an old one might be recorded, as are supernovae and exlipses or other events, like a tornado.

The pride is taught regardless of rank how to read th3ese pictographs. Some might even paint a word or icon on their pelt from time to time - stars are popular, as are cultural leaders now ancestors among the stars.

Only Archivists learn toi create the pictographs. This is because many must be exactly right, in order to preseve meaning. One misplacced line, slash, or dot means the difference between 'Blessed' and 'Butt' after all!

Sim,ilarly, the majority of the pride is peaceful and do not judge. Judgement is left to the stars, buit they do recognize there is evil in the world. Specifically, they know of the Nightplains, for example, or Outlands. The pride eschews the wicked. If caught lurking they may be forced to remain trapped until a monsoon for celestial judgement by the guards. Siumilarly, they know they are not immune and police themselves.. Wicked among the pride must face the stars. However, while they isolate, they are not cruel or avoid others.

The Lakelanders, for example, watch. They learn of other prides and seek to instead offer gifts or trade to build friendships. A Bonespeaker may have a guyard bring them bones for theiur use to hglean, they might bring a coat-appropriate lion to the Dawnlands for a political marriahe to a Dawnlander, they might smuggle lions to join the Pridelands, ETC. The Lakelanders are charitable and consider goodness and kindness their primary duty. And of course, archiving major Savannahwide events.

When massive events occur the Lakelanders actually coordinate relief effoirts. If one pride is starving, they might bring food. If a pride lose it's mothers, wetnurses will be provided, dens opened, and cubs adopted and loved.

The pride believes a lion's worth is built on merit and thus males and females, Blessed or not, may take any rank. The exemplary, with good leadership qualities, may be offered leader roles in time. Outsiders whom display desire3d leadership skill and compassion with no pride of their own may even be selected, buit this is rare. In the pride this does not mean absolute power but a leader only, one whom guides. Leaders are accountable to the priude, as the pruide is one another. As of adulthood, all are equal, and cubs are raised not merely by parents, but watched by the entire pride. It takes a village, and this village works as one.

The pride is only hostile by means of the guards. While the majority like to paint their fur with pictograph or likenesses of ancestors for strength or guidance, guards wear bones, hones, and appear as monsterously as possible to protect their softspoken, gentle brothers. They wear what they can to sppear as intimidating as possible, ensuring the pride remains safe.

The pride itself is otherwise rather typical of a pride, albeit more friendly, peaceful -- equal.

Ranks
A hob for all paws...

The Ranks are very basic, and while those with starry or star-marked coats (Be they natural stars or artistic! Doesn't matter...) may recieve the prefix of "Blessed" to their rank, there is otherwise no difference in duty expected of that rank.

Leadership is earned by merit. OOC this means 10 RPs. Which can be solos but shouldn't be, and they should be 250 words or more each. For the I/.T this is waived untill we fill open spaces or go officiual.

There are 7 maximum seat4ed leaders, but leaders may step down for and allow a new candidate if they wish, taking on the leaderless role of Advisor, which presently is also availible tto the I/T phase or must be requested when joining the pride with a reason/where they've been! The pride's ranks are...

Hunter/Huntress, Shaman, Archivist, Guard, Teacher, Healer, and Traveller while cuibs and adolescents fall under 'Student' as cubs and then 'Apprentice' forms of the ranks above.

Hunters, Hundresses, and Healers are as they say on the tin! They hunt or heal.

Guards protect the pride from attack. To accomplish this they might dress inm terrifying bones, horns, and the like to appear monsterous and deter intruders but are capable of fighting, and fighting well.

Shamans and Teachers are similar but not quite. Shamans help learn the will of the stars and ancestors, often by seeking seers in the pride's allies or by reading the skies. They do not work with ancestral spirits but instead wioth plants, rocks, ETC, and prefer to lead others to their callings, working like priests. Teachers teach essential life skills and ensure cubs grow up educated in reading pictohraphs, or even teach roguies to read whom remain. Teachers teach skills, and necessary abilities. Think of a Shaman similar to Rafiki and Teachers more like your favorite teacher in school.

Archivists record. they learn to create pictogrqaphs and as such relish in learning new events, They make pigment with burnt wood froim wildfires, crushed ochres, and if lucky, other naturally made dyes. They need dexterity, if only to draw images of past or present lions.

Travellers visit other prides and the roguelands for alliances, news, and new ideas. They bring new members, and often will come bringing news of the outsidem, surprise gifts, and more. Travellers might even breed with rogues or other prides more than those at home, if only to bring in new blood.
