A pride of primarily lions that has no homeland and travels around in a set route through the seasons. They are True Neutral, refusing to take part in any conflicts between other groups. For this reason, they are usually trusted by others to carry messages around the lands, as well as trade goods. They also can serve as ambassadors, and a safe group to temporarily join with for others to travel from place to place. They won't go out of their way to escort anyone, but they do welcome others to go along with them on their normal routes.

Its heavily preferred that pride members reference birds in some way, through markings mostly but being named after a bird or acting like a bird can also work. Their main allies among other animals are birds and elephants, since these animals also naturally travel a lot.

Will add in more details and posts when I got time lol

History - Many generations ago, a war brewed among different prides across the lands. From above, the eagles, vultures, and other creatures of the air watched as chaos and bloodshed reigned. Gathering in groups from time to time, many of the birds lamented what was going on. Senseless, useless violence - everyone focused on their own problems, never seeing the big picture.

One day, an eagle flying alone discovered an abandoned cub that was marked with wings. Feeling both sorry for the cub, and like this was perhaps some kind of sign, the eagle took it upon herself to raise the cub. In doing so, she taught him how to see the world from a birds-eye view, despite the lion not being able to fly himself. She taught him how birds of all types could share the wide skies of the land in peace, despite being different species with different ideals.

This lion eventually grew up, and began traveling the lands trying to find a home. But everywhere he went, despite the war being mostly over by this point, he just saw the same things his eagle mother had warned him of growing up. So instead of settling somewhere, he instead started to look for others like himself. Lions more focused on the big picture, those who valued peace and keeping to oneself. A pattern began to emerge, that many of these lions seemed to be marked like birds, or have other bird-like traits, some even being named after birds. No one knows these days if this part of the pride's tale is true or not - but either way, it's an accepted part of their history.

Over time, the group grew into a wandering pride of true neutral lions and other allies, who stay out of any and all conflicts. Naturally, other prides began to realize this pride could be trusted to carry messages across the lands, and would allow others to travel with them for a time, for safety's sake, so long as they followed the prides rules while with them.

Traditions -

  • Bird-like: Bird markings and/or colors, wing markings, bird-like mannerisms, or bird names are greatly cherished in the pride. This isn't a requirement to join, but the pride should lean heavily into these themes
  • Peaceful and True Neutral: Members of the pride may not ever take sides in the conflicts of others. Even within the pride, they are encouraged to solve disputes in a peaceful manner.
  • Welcome Travelers: The pride respects all other fellow travelers, and will often invite them to travel along with them - so long as the other travelers respect the pride's traditions.
  • See the Big Picture: Pride members are encouraged to think of the world as a whole, not just about themselves, their family, their friends etc. What consequences could their actions have on others?
  • It Takes a Pride: Yes, a play on the "it takes a village" saying. Cubs and young members are pretty much the responsibility of the entire pride. They are free to come and go among the group as they please, and their entire purpose in life is simply to have fun, grow, and learn. Biological parents are important, but cubs are free to choose who they want to travel with, and where they sleep at night - some cubs might never even acknowledge their birth parents as they grow. And this is seen as perfectly acceptable - parents are simply proud to see their cubs grow, even from afar.
  • Migratory Travelers: The pride travels in a wandering, but set, pattern across the lands. With some leeway for weather and other delays, it's relatively easy to find where they will be at any time during the year. Thus, it's easy for other prides to find them for purposes of message carrying and etc. The pride does not rush or hurry, but tries to take in the beauty of the lands as they travel.
  • Other Animal Allies: Animals other than lions are welcomed in the pride, so long as they also follow pride traditions. The most respected of these other animals are bird species, and elephants. This tradition began with other birds being considered equals to lions, but elephants were added later on due to their natural wisdom, and ability to assist the pride in carrying the sick, injured, and young cubs while traveling.

RP Required Ranks

Head Guide
This is more or less the pride's leader, and is a rank that can be held by a male or female. This lion follows advice from the Council of Wings, but does have the ability to make final decisions for the pride.

Council of Wings
This council is made up of mostly older/wiser lions that have something to contribute to the day to day running of the pride. It's a sort of loose rank, with many different roles. They are responsible for helping to resolve inner pride conflicts if members can't solve them on their own. They also debate on which routes are best to take due to changes in the land, weather and other factors. They can advise pride members and others on various matters, everything from love advice to helping the other ranks where needed. Elephants may also hold this rank.

Ambassador
These lions are skilled at getting others to see the big picture, as prescribed by the pride's traditions. Most of the time, they just assist wherever needed within the pride. But if another group or pride requests help with solving a conflict, these lions step up to try and help the requestors come to a peaceful solution. Because of their skillset, they often help solve issues within the pride as well, along with the council.

-------------------------------------

General Non-RP Required Ranks

Scout
These lions scout the lands ahead of the main group, ranging out anywhere from minutes ahead, to hours or days. They search out any dangers ahead, and also keep an eye out for prey. They are skilled at surviving on their own, being able to handle themselves in the wilds. Birds may also hold this rank, and are generally very suited to it since they can fly farther and faster, and scout the land from above.

Guard
Despite the pride as a whole being peaceful, that doesn't mean that others in the wilds follow these tenants. These lions tend to travel on the outskirts of the group, keeping everyone safe from outside threats. Elephants may also hold this rank.

Hunter
Somewhat obviously, those who do the majority of the hunting for the pride. They usually leave the main group at dawn, and return once they have brought down some sort of prey. They can hunt singly, in pairs, or sometimes in larger groups if the Scouts have found large prey, or a group of prey animals that needs more teeth to take down. Birds may also hold this rank, but due to not being able to bring large prey back to the pride, they are almost always partnered with a lion hunter.

Crafter
Basically what it sounds like. They focus on crafting useful and practical items more than art - but more artistic crafts are welcomed as well.

Teacher
These lions guide and teach the young of the pride, as well as any new pride members - helping them to understand and learn to follow the pride's traditions. Most cubs are simply taught to stay with the group - where Adolescents begin to learn the pride's traditions in a more in-depth manner, and prepare for what rank they wish to hold as an adult. Birds and Elephants may also hold this rank.

Traveler
The general adult rank for the pride, if a lion simply wants to exist within the pride with little to no responsibility (which they are not judged for), this is the rank for them! Other species will also hold this rank - though they may help do other things for the pride like hunting, they will only be known as a Traveler.

Wing
The general rank for a bird of any sort in the pride; they are allowed to hold certain other ranks, as noted above. But if a bird doesn't want one of those ranks, they are a Wing.

Garuda
The general rank for elephants within the pride. All elephants are expected to help out the pride as they travel by essentially allowing pride members who need it to ride on them. Mostly this includes very young cubs, and pride members who are too ill or injured to travel. Crafters of the pride have managed to make primitive saddles for safety; as well as litters for the elephants to pull. It is frowned upon to hitch a ride unless you truly need it, so as not to overburden these huge allies. Guard elephants are exempt from this duty, since they need to remain free to move however they need to defend the pride.

Little Feather
An affectionately named rank for young members of the pride, lasting through cubs and adolescent stage.

Feedback!

It is welcomed! I'm not entirely sold on the rank names, since I feel like they could be more... bird-themed? I'm just not quite sure what terms to use XD

Any other ideas for more traditions, ranks etc is welcomed as well. I'd also like to put in some pride holidays
