[Do you know Shy is supposed to be more creepy and lecherous then he actually seems to be? Damn it. I have to work on it! heart ]

It was a hot day, and while the air con was on full blast and the thickness of the walls stopped the heat from penetrating, just looking out the window and seeing the swirls of heat waves had Shy feeling...

well.

Nappish.

"Shy, you've got an appointment arriving in a couple of minutes. Do you want me to bring out some refreshments, or snacks?"

"Refreshments?" Shy brightened. Sitting at his desk and trying as best as he could to look studious and busy, he nodded. "Ice tea? With tons of syrup, and ice, and those little umbrella things?"

His secretary sighed. "You're supposed to be setting a good example, Shy." she reprimanded. But gave in. "Blue ones okay? We've run out of the other colors."

Shy beamed. Today didn't seem so bad after all! "Blue is fine. Now, hand my the next fae's folder, and I'll read it over while they arrive."

Kyle felt his sense of foreboding grow as he neared the building, Isabel clinging tightly to his hand. It hadn't been hard to find the place, but now that he'd reached the place... well... they created children. Or something. Not that he wasn't happy to have his little girl, but all the same. Didn't that make them mad scientists or something?

Still, he needed to know more about Isabel, and needed to make sure she was 'ok' so to speak. And he didn't know how to check her out. So it'd come to this.

An attendent in a white lab coat reached their side the moment they came within the doors, asking their buisness and leading them toward Shy's office. The man was frowning, and Kyle felt his nerves fray a bit forward. If this was about the eyebrow piercing, well, she was his daughter!

And he wasn't going to tell her what to do with her body. Besides, she looked good with it. They were dressed simularly again, Isabel was always trying to mimic him. He wore slacks, in an effort to look nice, and a short sleeved button up shirt. She wore the same, though her shirt was blue instead of black, and she had fishnets on underneath. Still, he thought they both looked presentable.

Pushing open the indicated door, he walked in, trying to hide his nerves. "Dr. Shy?"

The words 'Dr' and his name put after it made Shy think of odd role play fetishes. It seemed much too unusual in his mind, and quickly, he called out-- "Just Shy is fine."

The office wasn't really a proper office. Built inside an estate that had been renovated into his lab, it was large, round, and full of chintzy sofa sets and soft carpeting, brocade curtains and wooden desks that seemed too fragile to hold a proper set of tools.

Getting up from his desk, Shy frowned. So, this was Kyle? Well... he seemed so different compared to the other guardians. And Isabel...

"Well, hello gorgeous." he cooed. There was a mix of paternal pride and ego in there somewhere. "Come on in. Welcome."

"Shy then." Kyle said, with a casual shrug, momentarily forgetting that he was on his 'best' behaviour. Not that he could hide much, the tattoos and brightly coloured hair were something of a give away. Still, he was trying. He wanted to be thought of as a good father.

The office was a bit... strange, but hell, this whole place was strange. He was willing to accept that. Willing to... adjust. Besides, he liked different.

Isabel blinked up at the strange man, holding tightly to her Daddy's hand. She thought she liked him, he was smiling. So she smiled back, following Earako's advice, surpressing the urge to giggle. "'ello Mister." She chimed, dragging her father further in and pulling him over to the sofa she decided was best. "'m Isabel. This is my Daddy!"

Cooing and turning into a mess of bones, Shy beamed. Look, the little girl was smiling at him! Well, he liked _her_.

"I've contacted the fae guardians to come for her. Isabel, Kyle, we're here to have Isabel's first medical evaluation. It happens to be run by the fae themselves, and is private enough that neither you nor me will be allowed to watch. Most of the fae are in their teens... and some of them have been raised here. However, because of recent events, Isabel's going to be met with two from the courts."

Shy spoke as if he expected everyone to understand what he was talking about. "Cake? Tea?" he brightened, and offered them both iced tea melted to syrupy goodness, and decorated with blue umbrellas.

"I see." Responded Kyle, who didn't. What were the courts? He knew, somewhat generically what the 'fae' were. The man who'd brought the jar Isabel had come from had explained it. Sorta... Kyle had been in a hurry. But, now, when he had a chance to get his questions answers, he found himself concerned about looking ignorant. "This is just to make sure she's healthy, yeah?"

"Cake!" Isabel threw in, interrupted, bouncing in place enthusiastically. "No tea. Daddy likes coffee!"

"Nah, I'll have some Iced Tea." Kyle contradicted the little blue girl gently, ruffling her hair lightly, "Coffee can't be for all the time."

A girl after his own heart! The table set out had tiny plates full of tiny offerings-- and he waved it to her, nodding his head. "Please, feel free to have as much as you want."

"Coffee, is it?" Shy asked, and shrugged. He didn't like that stuff. It was so strong, and bitter, and it could make your teeth yellow! Sticking to his tea, he nodded his head.

"Tea is healthier, anyways." he said, avoiding to mention the sugar and fat content in his own concoctions. Pouring the tea into three highball glasses, he nodded.

"It's to check that she's healthy, if she's developing her gifts are a faster rate, usual things... don't you have any other children, Kyle?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 04, 2006 9:37 pm

Isabel didn't hesitate, with a quick smile she snatched a plate from the table, as if the offering might be revoked at any time. It was best to be careful about these things, even if Mister Shy did seem nice. Happily distracted by the sweet, she took a huge bite before remembering her Daddy, "Want some?" She asked, mouth full.

"That's alright, Mija." He replied absently, wearing an amused smile. "I can get my own if I decide I'm hungry."

"Thanks." He added, as he accepted the tea, sipping carefully and raising his pierced eyebrows a bit at the taste. "Not bad. And I guess you're right, but hell, I've already given up cigarrettes for her, coffee'll have to wait."

And it was still hard, sometimes all he wanted was the feeling... of smoke in his lungs, the taste and the peace it brought. But it wasn't good for kids. Or so he kept hearing. "Nah. But it's fine. Just 'bel and me." And JD, hopefully... maybe? It was hard to think of them as a family, but maybe that's what they'd be.

Shy nodded his head. Look, how cute! He arched a brow at this, and frowned slightly, watching Kyle and Isabel. How... different. But in a good way, he supposed. And the man was so polite! Not what he had expected from someone who looked...

well. Like that.

"Th--" he started to talk. Or at least, he intended to. That was lost when the door to the side of the room and two fae walked in.

One, a female had skin studded with stars and had hair shone like the milky way. She was distant, unapproachable as she frowned, arguing lightly with something her companion was saying. Dressed in a lab coat that seemed to cover too much, she paused, waving her hand in a distract fashion.

"It will be fine." she assured her companion.

Her companion was a man, with black skin etched with tattooos until it was hard to tell which was real. Was it black with red tattoos, or red with black ones? His head had been completely shaved, and his own lab coat seemed to be missing a couple of buttons. Either that, or he wasn't good at buttoning it up properly.

"I still think--" he started, and stopped, blinking. His eyes were hidden behind black shades, but it was still easy to see their movements. "Oh, our child!" he crooned, and bounded forewords, stopping in front of the girl and purring.

"Hello."

Shy blinked. "This is..." he started, and stopped.

[You choose the names?]

Perhaps the average father would have reacted poorly to the appearance of the two fae, especially the apparent tattooedness of the male. But who was Kyle to judge? He nodded in acknowledgement when Shy said their names, Liset and Verth. Noting that Verth was occupied with his daughter, he turned his attention to Liset. "Hey." A casual greeting, paired with a smile. "Take good care of my 'bel."

And perhaps most children would be intimidated by a guy like Verth all but bounding toward them. Isabel, however, wore a huge smile. "Hi!" She chimed happily, staring openly at Verth's skin, and thinking that she had to decorate herself more eventually. "Want some cake?"

Moving her attention to Liset, she continued to stare, her gaze full of open admiration. Of the many 'lessons' she was learning, 'don't stare' had yet to be taught. "You're pretty." She announced, "You look like skys."

She smiled. Polite, a little bit formal. "We will." she promised.

Verth's gaze and the message sent across by the sudden oogliness was echoed by his words. "Liset." he said. "Can we keep her?" apart from his rather... unusual appearance, he was too gooey with his charges. "Yes, yes I do. It will be nice to eat cake." without waiting for an answer, he opened his mouth expectantly.

Liset smiled. "I do, don't I?" she said, raising an arm and staring at the constellation scattered across her fingers. "Sometimes they move." she said simply. "And once, a new star was born right here." she said, pointing to the center of her chest.

Shy blinked. Was it a good thing to point to your boobs in front of a little girl? Maybe it was a girl thing.

Isabel was clearly preening under the attention. Not that she wasn't used to it, her father lavished her with praise as well, but these were the first two fae she'd ever met. So the fact that they seemed to like her as well certainly perked her up. Giggling, she put the last piece of her cake in Verth's mouth, quite proud of herself for being so generous. After all, it was very good cake.

Liset had most of her attention when she described the stars, the little blue girl staring hard as if she might catch one in the act of moving. Her small fingers touched the same approximate spot on her own chest, mirroring the older fae. They were so cool.

Kyle's expression was one of indulgent patience as he watched the fae get to know each other. It was good that Isabel wasn't going to be afraid, especially since he wasn't permitted to accompany her.

Liset smiled. "Now, bel." she said, nodding her head. "You need to come with us for a while, okay?"

Verth nodded. Chewing expectantly, he almost spoke around the cake in his mouth-- except he still had some pride. "Only for a little while. To run some tests, and the like. It's to make sure you're completely healthy."

Liset agreed. Looking at Shy and Kyle, she frowned. "An hour, maybe?"

Shy nodded. Oooh, that way he could have this man for company! He was going to have fun with _that_.

"M'kay." Isabel responded without hesitation, reaching a hand toward each of the teenage fae, fully expecting them to hold them. She wanted to walk in the middle! Though Isabel had yet to learn to fear people, she had learned that her Daddy worried sometimes, so she turned to him, offering a confident smile. "I be back, kay?" She chirped, before turning her back to him. Onward, to adventure!

Kyle watched, slightly uncomfortable, as the two fae interacted with his little one. Not that he didn't trust them but... hell... he didn't trust them. As a member of Tred, he'd seen the darker side that people showed. These days, he saw it even where it wasn't.

Still, he couldn't hold Isabel back. And it was important to find out if she was healthy, "I'll be here, Mija." His gaze was glued to her back, though he spoke to Shy, "How many Fae are there?" An absent, filler question. Just something to say while he watched his daughter walk away.

"Eighteen and a half." Shy answered promptly. "That are owned by guardians. Tutors that were raised here, sixteen. Of the courts, more." Shy watched the way Kyle stared after the trio with a look of curiosity. Okay. It was more like probing curiosity, stating loudly in silence how foreign he found all of this.

It was so cute! And so strange as well.

"Do you have questions?" he asked. "About Isabel, about the fae, the courts..." he trialed off.

And then asked his own. Heck. This was his office-- he was allowed to be as nosy as he wanted! "What is she like, at home? Personality wise? Has she developed an interest in any particular field? Does she eat a lot? What do you feed her?" some were random, some were logical-- "Doe she meet a lot of people? As a single father, do you find it uncomfortable raising a little girl?"

Yay for his subtleness.
