The main hall is usually where visiting kitsune first arrive. A short flight of stone stairs lead up to the entrance, which is raised above ground level. A railed veranda runs around the sides of the main hall. The building largely appears to be constructed of wood painted red and black, with a traditional, Japanese temple style roof.
Inside the building, the first room leads to a large hall, where the main altar was presumably once located. The altar is no longer there, but there are still lavish wall and ceiling decorations, with beautifully painted designs and murals clearly visible. Many of them depict foxes.
The floor of the large hall is made up of dark, laquered wood panelling. Various woven rugs lie across the floor in the centre. Around the edges of the room are a number of comfortable cushions and chairs, and there are low tables made of dark wood towards the rear. These tables hold various sets of china, including a couple of tea and wine sets. This is obviously an area for kitsune to relax in.
