I've only been into Metallica for about a year now but i really love their music. I bought the movie Some Kind Of Monster a few weeks ago and i remember seeing pictures of people jumping up and down on Metallica CDs after Lars announced that he wanted to put an end to Napster. What i want to know is would you have ever considered these people real fans? Just because Lars and the band want to protect their own work that they worked hard on?

They probably were fans, they just wanted their free music. If you're a fan of a band, you sould probably buy the cds, rather than download them. It may cost money and all, but it's helping the people make music, and not just giving big companies your money.

Not only are they not fans (which is fine by me) but they're stupid cuz they just wasted a ton of their own money. Duh.

Well I guess I wouldn't be a true fan then. I would have done the same thing. I mean, I like there music up to master of puppets and all. And Kill em all is one of my favorite albums. But I feel that Lars is a dickhead for shutting down the bands stuff on napster. I mean, If my band actually had a Record label and official demos, I wouldn't care if my stuff was online. I would just be happy that people where getting into my band. and if i where famus then I would still keep it online as advertisment. And If people where "true fans" of our music, then they would want to buy our cds. To see the booklets and what not. Its just my opinion. call me a hypcrite, not a true fan, whatever. I like megadeth WAY more then metallica anyhow.

i was raised on Metallica and i love them to death, and would never do anything to hurt any of their cds, but that doesn't neccesarily mean that those who steped on Metallica's cds weren't true fans, they were just a bit angry.

I download then buy if it's worthy. I always download a couple songs from an album before I buy it. Why the hell should I buy a pile of s**t like St. Anger when Lars sounds like he's been getting drum lessons from Stomp and even borrowed their garbage can drum set.. Their are no solos at all.. The vocals are shitty and almost pure screaming.. The riffs are annoying and repetitive.. and Bob Rock is the bassist (his name is enough of an insult..)..
So if it's at least a decent album, I'll buy it after dl-ing. But why the hell should I pay money for something like St. Anger.. So Metallica gets the wrong idea of thinking people like it so they make more of it...?
I've got a Metallica shirt for each of their first four albums and a shirt of the Creeping Death single cover. I also have all their albums.. even St. Anger.. I've got Kill Em All on vinyl as well as cd, too. So I'm pretty sure I'm enough of a fan of their first four albums to hate "Metallica" (Black Album), Load, Reload and St. Anger.
And like Metal Discharge, I also like Megadeth a lot more. As well as Overkill, Exodus and early Slayer, too.
