I was hoping could explain to me the point of books in the game. It's not to say that I don't enjoy reading them from time to time but is there an integral role they play?

No, they have no use unless they are quest related or skill enhancing. Often amusing or informative, though.

I want to read a book about the Nerevarine. I'm curious to know what happens to Vivec (although I never bothered completely the Morrowind expansions, I'm assuming that Almalexia and Sotha Sil die) and the Tribunal Temple, among other things.

beginning? That's what, 1/2 through the main questline.

The Real Barenziah was a great book series.
Books have as much significance as bowls and cups but they're much more entertaining.

It's left open to interpretation, but Vivec was either killed by the Nerevarine, or simply died of old age, seeing as how he lost his power. It says on wikipedia that all three Tribunal members died by the time the Nerevarine left for Akivir, fulfilling Azura's prophesy.

I think books are by far the best part of the game. Most fantasy games are so incredibly structured that the only storyline you get is what you need to know for the game to make sense, and nothing else. Sometimes, you don't even get that much. But in the Elder Scrolls, they bombard you with so much information, it takes a while getting used to. It's part of the game being so open ended. Bethesda Softworks has created an extremely complex and intricate world, and they threw in the books for people lioke us, who obsess over the games little details. In essence, it takes the games from being simply games, and it makes them a complete story.

I cried when I went into Dreamworld and found the complete set of History of the Empire and they vanished when I left. The books are very interesting. For instance, did you know the Akavari come in four forms. Monkey, Tiger, Snake, and Dragon. The next TES needs to be in Akavari land.

I was reading about that, and I put something together. If the akaviri have katanas, and more or less resemble the Elder Scrolls version of Earth's far east, then that means they must have ninjas. Seeing as how they have monkeys, that leaves only one option: NINJA MONKEYS!

And they don't heav dragons there anymore, they died out long ago. But maybe they could make an Elder Scrolls game based in Akavir long ago, so that they could include dragons.

In the end of the book I read in the Cheydinal Mage's Guild they said a Tiger man became a dragon,

SPOILER WARNING

I'd assume much like Martin did.

Yes dragons would be cool,, so they need to add that to the next one, books are tiresome but normally are an ok thing to read.

I really like having the books in there, if only for the reason that I run out of them really quickly in RL^^;; It's great to be able to read while playing a game. They give you great ideas for stories lol^_^

Hmm, I read that article, not bad tho I disagreed on some things. Like Vivec being the mastermind behind Nerevars death. Comparing the supposed behavior of all three, Almalexia seems the likely candidate. While all three are reported to have worked to the aid of their people, she's the one who seems the most vain, self-absorbed, and utterly convinced that she deserves godhood. Some supposed accounts suggest she had relationships with both Sotha Sil and Vivec thereafter, but during the course of the game, she doesn't have much contact with either. Basically, she stuck me as the kind who clings to whichever man seems to hold the most power at the time, and ditches them when she can stand on her own razz But enough of me analysing dead fictional goddesses sweatdrop

Back on the topic though, I think Oblivion is made assuming the events of Morrowind extend to the PC completeing all major quests, without killing anyone unessesarily. Like someone on the ES forums said, the PC could have massacred everyone on the island, but Oblivion assumes that didn't happen sweatdrop Thus, since theres nothing officially stated about Vivec's whereabouts, its left open (though I heard rumors that the devs forum RP might be declared canon...)

As for books themselves... they add more depth to an already amazingly done world biggrin Plus, they're entertaining.

Books help make it feel more like a living, breathing world.

I like them because it adds variety and backstory to the game. It makes it more interesting, and while some collect weapons I collect books and scrolls.
