I know someone who looks beautiful in a fur coat. My chinchilla- he is just the sweetest, cutest thing. I thought of him ending up on a fur farm and killed by a**l electrocution etc., and I nearly cried! Look! THIS IS NOT A FUR COAT! THIS IS MY BABY! ---> The thought of fur coats and fur farming makes me want to barf! Euch, let's discuss. Personally, I think that it's just plain hideous. I mean, have you seen the conditions they're kept in? It's awful.

Well, I'm not going to go into the whole PETA thing, but I agree. Fur farms...ew.
Near where I live, there's a ferret or mink farm or something. It's revolting.
As for hunting: I loathe people who just go out and kill animals for their fur, when they've already got a nice warm coat, and do NOT need fur. Back ages and ages ago, or even a while ago, up North, it was necessary, and a part of their culture. It's not the same as modern hunting.

Hmph, yes! I agree. Especially those traps.... An Animal Rights group based near my home recently went on an expedition up north somewhere to smash apart the traps. They found a wolf in one, she's okay now.

There are humane traps, supposedly. rolleyes So animals don't gnaw off their limbs and ruin their lovely fur.

Yeah, I just don't get what's humane about have giant serrated jaws clamped over your foot and left there for days or weeks and you have to gnaw off your own limbs...
If that's logic, where has the world gone?!?

Those aren't the supposed humane traps. I was shown one that just...traps the animal, apparently, without clenching on a limb. That's all theory, though, I don't know how it works in practice...or how many hunters even use them. rolleyes
Besides...they're just going to shoot the animal anyway. cry

Ouch, well, I still don't think killing animals just for their fur's very humane... Or moral...

I agree that fur farming is horrific beyond belief. It's really gutting that after years of campaigning against it and public opinion swaying against it that it's starting to creep back into fashion again. gonk
Whenever I see people wearing fur in the street I try to always tell them that fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly people. Then I try and tell them about how intensely cruel the practice of fur farming is. I don't think people (usually rich women) should be allowed to get away with walking down the street thinking they look gorgess and like a million dollars, while wearing the coat of a dead animal.

I never liked wearing fur. I love animals, and wanna know something??
THEY SKIN THEM ALIVE. It's horrible. I hate it.
I don't think, people realize that animals have feelings as well. Like, I stepped on my dog's tail on accident the other day, and he yelped in pain. What happens when you skin a dog? They'll HOWL and HOWL in pain, bleeding to DEATH.
Animals need fur more than we do. I got this off of a magazine :
Department stores and fur retailerse are trying to tell you that fur is the new trend. but don't buy it. With the many warm and fashionable alternatives available, there is simply no reason to wear fur coats or fur trimmed clothing. Whether the animals are trapped in the wild or raised on fur farms, the main ingredient in fur is creulty. Trapped animals suffer for hours or days in steel-jawed leghold traps, often chewing through their own limbs in a desperate attempt to escape. Ranched animals live in tiny, barren cages, and then are gassed, clubbed, or electrocuted. In the 21 century, compassion is the new fashion. Be a real trend-setter, and don't buy fur coats or fur trim.

I never gave fur coats much thought really. My mom has some and when i saw a clip from Peta about the skinning of the animals. I was horrified. I was crying but it was so awful. I think wearing fur isn't the bad thing. You have to realize in history, people needed the fur to keep warm and survive. Though they did not skin them alive and they used ALL of the animal. None of it went to waste. If it was a survival thing, as in you needed to stay warm. But now a days, the fur isn't needed for such things. We have other materials to make coats out of.

Yes! I agree. Do we need it? And if we did (which we don't), why do we have to make it so painful and awful?

But the whole "gassing/clubbing/electrocuting" thing seems to contradict the "skinning while alive" thing. Not that it matters, both ways are revolting.
