Akabane's Story A professional courier and a very mercenary spirit, Akabane is scary in a way vaguely reminiscent of Hannibal. He is convivial, neatly dressed and unfailingly polite, even when he's expressing his disappointment at how weak an opponent you are. Then he chuckles and slices you into pieces. You see, his favorite pasttime is killing people. Ginji once pointed out that Akabane doesn't kill so that he can make his deliveries, he makes deliveries so that he has a chance to kill. His weapon of choice is, of all things, scalpels. 108 of them, in fact. He usually wields four, almost like claws, but if the opponent is worthy enough he can toss them with pinpoint accuracy or even control them with something like telekinesis. The other things in his arsenal are incredible speed and a very strategic mind.
Akabane doesn't care about people, things, or money. He says himself that he has no friends or allies. The only thing that matters to him is entertainment, which means fighting and killing. The only thing he wants is to know just how good he can get. The only way to insult Akabane is to bore him. If one is not Ban or Ginji, that usually results in instant death. The Get Backers pair get a special exemption because somewhere along the line they managed to intrigue him. So for now, he keeps his eye on them. What he eventually intends to do, he's not telling.Akabane's Weapon Scalpels You may be wondering how Akabane manages to carry 108 scalpels around all the time. With his trenchcoat it's pretty plausible, but he doesn't keep them in there. They are actually hidden inside his body. He can pull them out of each palm at will. He also has complete control of what the scalpels are made out of. The first time he fought Ginji, they were made out of steel. Using that to his advantage, Ginji turned his electric powers into magnetism mode and yanked all 108 of them out in one go. Since then, Akabane has shifted the materials to titanium and ceramic.
Incidentally, that fight was the only time that Akabane has definitely lost. That someone could do that to him is what has so intrigued him about GB. One gets the impression he's waiting to find out who is better, Ban or Ginji. Then he can fight the best and maybe finally figure out just how far his abilities go.
Next to nothing is known about Akabane's history. Somewhere in the past, he managed to acquire a thick, ugly looking scar that runs from collarbone to navel, and a hinduish-looking tattoo on his left upper-arm. I have no clue what the tattoo means, but the scar, wherever he got it, may be the origin of Akabane's penchant for scalpels. He once said that anything that mixes with his blood becomes his weapon, and if whatever made that scar required surgery.... well.

Behind the Name: Akabane Kuroudo Akabane
The kanji for Dr. Jackal's last name, "Akabane", is made up of two characters: ("aka") and ("kabane"); also read as "shikabane".
The dictionary definitions of these characters are as follows:
aka (n) (1) red; crimson; scarlet ("aka" also has a secondary meaning: "communist") kabane (n) corpse
The two kanji characters combined do not have any specific meaning.
Kuroudo
Akabane-san's first name is also made up of two kanji characters: and . They are read as "kura" and "hito", "shin" or "to" respectively.
The definitions are:
kura (n) warehouse; cellar; magazine; granary; godown; depository; treasury; elevator shin/hito (n) man; person; people to (suf) person
Together, the two characters may be read as either "kuroudo" or "kurando".
The term is subsequently defined as:
kuroudo/kurando (n) keeper of imperial archives
-- Name Implications --
Taken all together, the kanji for Akabane's name implies: "keeper of bloody corpses". Or in Akabane's case perhaps "collector" might be the more fitting term. Of course, he doesn't collect corpses literally. But he does have quite a long list of people he has killed.
Additionally, a variation on the character has the meaning of "storehouse". This also seems to fit Akabane's character rather well because of the way he "stores" his arsenal inside his own body. A "storehouse" of surgical blades so to say.

Akabane Kuroudo really is an interesting character in GB no one knows what happen in his past. Akabane may also be the strongest character by far. I like his style of fighting quickly finish off the opponent and have no mercy. I wonder what his hidden power is "pandoras box" in his hands. Akabane "Dr. Jackal" is kinda related to Anubis the ancient egypt god, this come from some theories and fans.

A strong reference to Akabane's alias, Dr. Jackal. With regards to jackals' association with the dead by the way, these animals were often found to lurk about tombs and graveyards. This is definitely not one of Akabane's traits, but his association with death is a fair connection.
