Ahh, Gene. The beauty queen who started my love of fashion dolls. I started collecting dolls in late 95, but got my first Gene in 96. I had almost the whole collection up until 2001 or so. I used to make jewelry for her that I sold on eBay. I was actually one of the first people who ever did that. That's basically how I supported my habit. I later got into Tyler more and my first purchase was the Madison Avenue gift set. Then I discovered Alex and Butterfly Ring dolls. My collection got thinned out here and there as I got tired of dolls or needed money. I eventually made the tough decision to sell them all (except one) and decided that I would get back the ones I really missed later on.
Every time I go to Tonner's website, I get a little misty eyed looking at the beauties I've missed out on recently. What I'm really excited about and will definately get are the Harry Potter dolls that he is producing later this year. Can't wait!!!!

I've written this so many times in the Toys/Collectibles forum that I'm getting sick of writing it! xd
I love Gene dolls! I first discovered an ad for the "Incognito" doll in a Barbie Bazaar magazine in 1998. There were a few other little pictures of other Gene dolls in that magazine and I was just stunned. I never expected to find a line of fashion dolls that just called to me as much as Gene does.
I've always loved fashion and history and Gene really combines the two beautifully. My favorite fashions are from the early turn-of-the-(20th)-century, 1920s, and 1940s. Gene wears many outfits from these! Some of the more historical outfits are among my favorites, like the USO and WAVE dolls. I think the best year of Gene dolls/costumes has been 2001. There are so many I want from that year! heart
I'm glad someone voted for Violet. I was much more impressed with her than I was with Madra's release; she's really stunning!
Was anyone else really, really, really disappointed with the release of Trent? I was so excited at the upcoming introduction of "Gene's handsome costar," as they were billing him. When I first saw a picture of him, I busted out laughing. Uuuuuuuuugh. xp I plan to get 2-3 of them because I just cannot resist his outfits but I really wish he came with a different head. xd

You can trade Trent's head with a Basil St John's (from the Brenda Starr Line). It's a much more realistic looking. Actually, I bet Trent's clothes would fit Basil. The newer Brenda Starr line is sculpted by Robert Tonner and Brenda uses a Tyler body, so I know it's the same scale. I tried to find a close up of his head but couldn't, so here's the best pic I could find. You would probably like the Brenda Starr line actually, since all the outfits are 40s/50s inspired.

People have actually told me that before, but I just don't. sweatdrop There's an outfit from one of the 2004 dolls that I love, but I just don't like the doll herself. I think her face is too normal for my tastes. I love Gene's funky features. whee I checked Tonner male dolls but none of them grab me. That one guy has a eye patch! xp Guess I'll have to stick with Trent. :shudder:

Here's a pic without the patch. This is a pic of Basil from the original Brenda line from 2000. He's not designed by Tonner. His patch is removeable as well. BTW, don't think I'm trying to force you to like these dolls. I'm just trying to give you some alternatives to Trent. I really wish I could find the site, but when he first came out, someone started producing replacement heads for him that were really good looking. And if you like Gene's 'funky features' you might think about looking for some of the original Brenda dolls too. She was painted to look exactly like her comic strip counterpart, complete with the weird star pattern eyelashes.

Hey, he doesn't look bad without that eyepatch! blaugh He's also not as young as I originally thought, which is a plus. Trent looks so much older than the few male dolls I know of.... I can't believe someone was actually making replacement Trent heads!!! 4laugh I don't mind all the information! I know very little about male dolls and this is helping me and giving me a place to start looking! 3nodding I'll have to check into the first Brenda Starrs, too.

OMFG. I HAVE to look up those dolls now.....the one in the banner here?!? That's gotta be a Liza Minnelli doll based off her character in Cabaret!!! You have no idea how much I wasn't expecting to see that here!
