I'm not a big fan of Barbie; I think they generally look really cheaply made with flimsy concepts. sweatdrop I have broken down and bought a couple of unique ones, though. 3nodding The one on the left is "Strawberry Party" Barbie from 1998. I love the shades of yellow and green in her outfit and her clothes are covered in strawberries! This is such a great springtime doll! It's a great example of what a playline doll should be: inexpensive and simple, with a great concept. It even comes with stencils and markers! whee The doll on the right is "Kise kae Teddy Barbie-chan" or "Change Teddy's Clothes" Barbie and was made in Japan in 1997. This is one of my absolute favorite dolls. I've never seen one with a similar concept. Barbie is dressed in a cute spring time outfit with a teddy bear on the shirt. There is a little shirt and sunglasses set and a dress for the teddy bear! The back of the box states, "Barbie and Teddy Bear are good friends" (and a bunch of other stuff I'm too tired to focus my eyes on). blaugh Have I mentioned how much I love this doll!? heart It seems to be a lot more childish than today's American Barbies. I don't know if that's because it's made for the Japanese market or if tastes have changed that much in the past 8 years. I with all Barbies were as cute as these two!

I've collected Skipper dolls for years and it's really gratifying to see several people in the guild talking about vintage Skipper outfits! I won't post any pictures of my vintage collection because people can see those anywhere. I collect vintage Skippers and the ones from the 1980s. I love the mod fashions but the ones from the late '80s and early '90s are my favorites. (Does anyone know if the Babysitting playset was ever made? I've never been able to find an answer...) There is one other category I collect from that most people don't know about........Indian Skippers! eek Mattel couldn't legally sell the dolls in India, so they went through a company called Leo. All the dolls sold in India are exclusive to that country! These dolls use the 1964 body with the late '80s face. There is a line called "My First Skipper" that comes with simple clothing and - gasp - panties! Apparently there is/was a law in India that says all dolls must be sold with their underpants. (Take that Mattel; no more scrimping for you! scream ) xd The doll on the right is "Fairy Fantasy Skipper" from 1995 and she looks like Tinkerbell! She comes with some sort of rigging so you can make her "fly." I've never opened her box to try that, though. I am amazed by the doll on the left. She is called simply "Li'l Sister of Barbie" and is from 1998. I have only seen this doll once and worried constantly until it arrived in the mail. It is the only traditionally dressed Indian Skipper I've seen and is the only Skipper with dark hair since the 1960s. She also uses a different head mold from the others, this is the headmold from "Pizza Party Skipper" in the early 90s.

Most of the Barbies I had as a kid are in a plastic box underneath my bed, stripped with their attire in a separate container. I have a couple Avon seasons dolls, Scarlett O'Hara, Princesses of the World (Ireland & Japan), and a few other miscellaneous collector editions.

I simply loooove the African princess of the world. I think she's the most beautiful ever. I spent like half an hour staring at her.
I kinda like Barbies only because there is so many of them here to choose from. However, the quality tend to be quite disappointing. I think My Scene doll clothes are much better, but they're expensive too.
Nowadays I just buy the dolls and give the clothes to my Blythes (doesn't really fit but oh well!).

Dame Edna starfire27 My favorite Barbies are the My Scene (for customs), Barbie and the Rockers, the Princesses of the World........... I've started collecting the My Scene dolls. I really like the few ones that have an open mouth smile. They don't look so much like the Bratz dolls. I like the closed mouth myself! The mouth looks too large on most (to me at least) with the teeth showing, but I got it to re-paint any way (I bought the Chealsea) I was very dissapointed with the Cali girl barbies, one wearing a bandana DOESNT have hair in front!! I was glad I look at it in the store! And they are SCENTED ewwwwww! I love the new dolls of the world princesses! I have the India and Navajo ones, but I hope to find the Japan version as well! I love the fact that they do more skin tones and face shapes now! I dont like the 1980s barbie face shape, kinda creepy. whee But I did love my totally hair barbie and my olympic ice skater barbie as a kid! I would combine them for the ultra OLYMPIC ICE SKATING TOTALLY HAIR BARBIE! blaugh Wheeeee! *Dork*
