All right, so I just got back from watching the Silent Hill Movie and figured i'd make a topic since I didn't want to spoil anything for people who didn't watch it in the silent hill topic thread.
and I apologise, this is mostly a rant.
Moving on..
So for starters, I was very disapointed with the outcome of it all.
I mean, up until the first church scene the movie was excellent. They got a lot of details right and like.. reinacted the first game for a while too, it was awesome. The graphics were tight too and they kept the cops name Cybil! Not to mention our favorite monster of all, Pyramid Head, amde an apearance.
However, after that church scene it just.. ugh..
I mean like.. first off, they killed Cybil, now in the first game if she died your ending was crap. And hey, the movie ending was crap too (go figure)
Second.. what was with that reaper stuff? In the games wasn't it about god? Not satan or the reaper or whatever, it was like.. christianity(or catholic or whatever religion) took over.
Third and finally the ending. I mean.. how could they end it off like that? @___@ I guess it's more of a personal thing but I just thought that ending was lame. Just.. leaving her off in the other dimension like that with her daughter? Just.. bleck..
And Chris didn't like.. do ANYTHING in that movie, he was just there (and his name should have been Harry -_-; )
again, this is ALL my personal opinion on the movie based off of what I know from playing the games and what not.

BIOHAZARD'S MOVIE REVIEW TIME!
Normally I'd be the first one to make a separate thread *huff* but I don't pollute Forums like that. Well, I went to see the movie, opening night. Got great seats, by the way, ^_^.
Now onto the review:
So the movie was everything I expected it to be and more. Allow me to elaborate.
The movie wasn't based directly on the events of the games, nor could it coexist with the games because such characters as Rachel, Alessa, Cybil, etc. Played major roles, but in a much different way than in the games, which brings me to the point that if you're one of those people who wouldn't like the movie unless the story correlated with games, then excuse my manners, but you should open your mind and enjoy it for what it is: A brand new story inspired by something we know and love.
Having said that, I gotta say that aside from the characters I mentioned, our good friends are back, such as the Pyramid head and the Nurses, but you've seen that from the previews.
The movie was creepy, scary and disturbing, all three things that I just love...
The music... Oh my god, the music... It was ALL taken from the games and added so much more to the movie, making it feel truly like Silent Hill, especially Promise (Reprise)--gotta be my favorite piece of music in all of Silent Hill series.
The sound effects, visuals and everything else was also just like the game...
You know what? It didn't even feel like a movie. All that time I felt like I was watching the Game. That's how into it I was.
The story? Well, the story is just like every Silent Hill story. Withotu giving away too much, it involves fire, demented cults, all in the past with creepy roots.
The ending... The ending was just a bit disappointing... Because it was kind of anti-climactic... You root for the characters only to find that they ended up in a neither good nor bad ending... But that's how Silent Hill always was. It's all about the Journey, and the journey blew me away.
Biohazard EXTREME gives this movie a big thumbs up!

To comment on the ending though... The thing is, they were dead all along, stuck in the realm between heaven and hell, you know? That's why they couldn't go back to the realm of the living. But to them... Home was heaven... It was hard to understand, but that's how it is... I wasn't too impressed with it, but like I said, it's all about the Journey.

interesting review ^_^ makes me think of it a little better too.
I still really disliked the ending.. probably since i'm more of a happy ending person =p
and aah.. I get the ending now... but still.. wasn't too thrilled with it.
The movie was good though, but after that church scene I just.. en.. too much gore, cybil's death and the ending just kinda ruined it to me.

Actually, I just thought the Gans' interpretation of the cult was terrible.......as for the ending? I thought it was great in that ambiguous SH2 "left to interpretation" kinda way. You have to admit, alot of the most interesting endings in the SH games are the bad ones. ninja

They couldn't do the entire cult/God thing, though.
Do you know how many churches and shizz would have SHUT THE MOVIE THEATRES DOWN because of it?
SH would go the way of GTA, only WORSE. Why? Because it's about a religion.
I mean, Christ, in a world where over-zealous Christians made movie theatres take Brokeback Mountain down, you have to tread lightly.
They had to twist the story a bit, and in the end, isn't that the entire thing about Silent Hill? The games even take what you know and kind of warp it, twisting throughout the plot.
The ending was the only thing I had a problem with, but it wasn't THAT bad...Not bad enough to ruin the movie. I really liked it all.

Personally I never really cared much about Silent Hill's Cult aspect. Not enough to actually get upset because they interpreted it differently.

well I over exagerated a bit by saying it ruined it, but it did kinda dissapoint me, the first half of the movie was awesome though.
and i'll just be quiet now >_>;;

Um .. the movie was wrong. sad The story wasn't like the movie, at all .. except for their being a cult and a mysterious silent hill and other basic stuff like that.
WARNING, IM GOING THROUGH THE TRUE STORY OF THE ORIGINAL SILENT HILL, SO SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS! ..
I liked the movie a lot until they started making the story incorrect. Allessa is supposed to give birth to God, and theres none of that. Dahlia, a highly manipulative person and cult leader (i think), wanted to use her daughter, who had "special abilities," to get what she wanted. And yes, it WAS established that it was not god, but Satan that was worshipped in the files of Silent Hill 4 (although .. who knows). Anyways, the whole cult thing was incorrect and it made the end of the movie stupid. I looked it up on a translation of the book of lost memories after I saw the movie to make sure I knew what really happened. The fire was a result of a ritual, yes, but a ritual to get God out of Allessa. Cheryl (or Sharon) is Allessa's other half and Allessa, similar to the movie, pulled Cheryl to Silent Hill.
However, it was a pretty good movie, especially the first half. The first half was true to the games. Or well, up to when they get to the church. And Dahlia.

But if you hate it, it's your loss, it's what I say to everyone. I like the Resident Evil movies, I liked the Silent Hill movie, I liked Doom. Why? Because they are good movies. They are amazing movies with excellent effects/action scenes, characters and storylines. I'll be seeing the movie twice more in theatres. Everyone I know knows Silent Hill because of me, so they all wanna see it with me. sweatdrop

Although I'm a fan of the game series, I probably won't go to see it again in theatres. Once was enough Silent Hill for me for a while. (getting a little queasy...)
Anyhoo, Yeah, I think the whole "god" thing was a little watered down...probobly because the general populous wouldn't appreciate a satanic-cult burning little girls to release their "god" from her body. I think a radical puritanical christain-ish cult is more believable. (no matter how different it is from the game)
((repressing desire to rant about "anti-christian culture"))
The bottom line is that Silent Hill is the result of power-hungry occult leaders f***ing everything up and sending themselves and their town into the nightmare world of a tortured little girl.
As for the movie's "Reaper" character...I was like, WTF?! So the "demon" just happened to appear as this little girl began to give vent to her supernatural powers through hetred and violence? I'm not buying it...
However, there is a quote from a certain book that may explain this: "...the Devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour..."
Anyway, I agree with you guys, it was an awesome movie until the cult/backstory elements were spelled out, then it was knocked down to "great." In spite of this, however, I think it was one of the best film adaptations of a video game series that I've ever seen...
...maybe I'll rent it when it comes out.

Well, now that I've had a day to kinda recover from my fanboy "high"......Rose had ALOT of bad dialogue.....kinda corny......not just the speech either.....and I'm not bugged about the fact that he cult was changed......I'm bugged that the new cult was just lame. They all looked stupid, they all acted stupid, non of them could act, they had bad dialogue, etc. The cult just sucked. Bleh.

I just found it funny that Cybil is a police officer and Rose was the one who had to calme HER down like, "It's okay... It's gonna be okay..." Isn't that the cop's job to do that?

Watching the movie really made me feel like I was reading a fanfic. The main thing that threw me off was that there were so many people. I was also confused because Dahlia kind of came off as a good person in the movie. There were a lot of little things that I liked though. Did anyone notice that at the end when Rose's dress is completely red she kind of resembles the SH god?
