EGL, for those of you not familiar with this abbreviation (sp?) it stands for Elegant Gothic Lolita.

The point of this is, what do you all think of this fashion? Personally I'm in love with this fashion and can't wait to oneday sew myself an EGL dress.

I want to go goth myself, but alas, being the b***h that my grandma is, I can't. ;.;

Eh...I can see the charm but I could never get into it. Cyanna and black lacey dresses don't mix well. Actually Cyanna and any kind of dresses don't mix well. My natural habitat is jeans and a T-shirt/hoodie.

I don't know... On one hand, EGL gals can be pretty smoking... On the other hand, just the term "lolita" is kind of disturbing to me in a fashion. I mean, it means that you are dressing up to look both sexually attractive, and incredibly young, and that's kind of gross. sweatdrop

I know that feeling, I was that way for a year or two... then I found pants that I liked better than jeans....

I love that style. I have some outfits basiced on them. I have a few Goth and Lolita Bibles, Gosu Rori, and Homemade Gothic and Lolita books (I bought most from Kinokuniya book store in Little Tokyo), it's fun looking at the patterns and try to make stuff (So far a made a few purses,skirts,mini top hats,and mini crowns).

Evidently the people here are not very ed-du-ma-cat-ed, are they? I love classic lolita, I dress in it myself.

Lolita has nothing to do with sex, it is just a street fashion based on Victorian and Rococo era fashion and is extremely modest (except for ero-lolita, of course.) It shares a name with a perverted book, yes, but it is nothing of the sort.

=D

I take it from the "EGL" ab. you are a Mana fan?

I am insulted by your implication that I am not "ed-u-ma-ca-ted." stare For one thing, I didn't know that fashion was part of a balanced education. wink Personally, I find that my being well read, intelligent, and having started college at 15 makes me much more well educated than my lack of caring about fashion. Foreign fashion, no less.

The origin of the word "Lolita" was the book written by Vladimir Nabokov, and it has been adopted into the English (and other) languages as a word that -means- a "sexually precocious young girl." Before that it was just a girl's name, and certainly didn't mean anything having to do with the Victorian age.

And I did not say it necessarily has anything to do with sex, except in as much as fashion is always about attracting others. It doesn't have to be "sexy" to be sexually attractive; Some find cute to be more attractive than sexy. And it also may very well have to do with Victorian/Rococo fashion, however, it is specifically -children's- clothing of the Victorian and Rococo styles.

Also, I actually do find lolita fashions, especially Gothic lolita fashion, and Classic lolita fashion, to be very appealing. I rather like old-styled things, like Steampunk. I did then too. I just thought that the idea was strange, especially since they could've chosen another name to call it by; Lolita has a meaning, and "sexy" is part of it.

My gosh, I was joking about the educated part! o_o
I never said the word lolita had anything to do with the Victorian/Rococo eras, just the fashion. It might have very well started out as a sexual thing, but it is certainly not today. The fashion Lolita has nothing at all to do with the book Lolita. It happens to be a disgusting coincidence.

I hope. ._.

And steampunk is awesome. x3
