So I'm sure you've all heard about "gateway drugs" - the idea that by smoking pot once you'll end up becoming addicted to 58141912468 other drugs... and alcohol... and die in a gutter alone and unloved... or whatever.

So this is sort of along that lines only with Music - by getting into the Beatles and becoming a Beatlemaniac, their music acts as a gateway that gets you into other artists.

I know I've found other musicians and bands I like through the Beatles. I'm sure other people have as well. So post about that.

Here are some of mine
The Beatles got me into John Lennon (Solo work) which got me into Julian Lennon (John's son) and later John Lennon got me to like Yoko Ono's music because of Double Fantasy
The Beatles got me into Bob Dylan who introduced them to pot which got me into Joan Baez who introduced the world to Bob and had a thing with him back in the day
The Beatles got me into The Who because a Beatle/Who loving friend introduced me to them
The Beatles got me into Eric Clapton because my mom bought me an Eric Clapton CD for Christmas instead of a Who CD (which is what I had wanted in the first place)
The Beatles got me into Janis Joplin because Bob Dylan hating mom likes her music
The Beatles got me into George Harrison's Solo Work which got me into Ravi Shankar because he taught George the Sitar
The Beatles got me into Buddy Holly (a little) because they liked his music
The Beatles kind of got me into Elvis (I don't really like him that much because he was a b*****d and secretly tried to have them kicked out of the country)

I think that's it, maybe there's more, but I can't really think of it right now. confused

eh...all I remember is Elvis saying that he was ashamed of The Beatles because of the whole Jesus thing.

But, anyway, I have to agree with most of all of that, though some (like Janis Joplin and Eric Clapton) came from my mothers influence. Also, Clapton was good friends with George.

I probably would have been disappointed in The Beatles if I hadn't found out of it before I cared about stuff like that. xp By the time I did, I was no longer shocked and loved The Beatles too much to condemn them for it. And now I don't care about stuff like that, anyway.

The only Beatles-related musicians I'm interested in are The Beatles themselves, in their solo years. I am interested in other musicians, but I can't think of being interested in any because of my interest in The Beatles.

Thats not a good reason! dX Stupid Elvis! Teehee

But no - The Beatles werent a gateway band for me really... whenever I find bands - its cause I got bored and downloaded random music, and thats where it all begins for me... The Beatles, on the other hand, was introduced to me by... no one... I just started looking into their music and vioala!

The Beatles were kind of a gateway band for me. I have always loved music, and they just made me love it more. I like their solo work, and other bands like The Who.

The Beatles sort of got me into other 60's bands - like The Who, and The Kinks - last.fm may be good for somethings after all XD

the beatles got me into eric clapton cause eric was friends with george.

they also got me into the stones because those two bands were friends and even shared songs like " i wanna be your man".

they got me into ravi shankar for the same reason other people did.

they got me into a lot of other bands/artists cause these bands all did covers of beatles songs like ewf for "got to get you into my life" among others.

they got me into early girl vocal groups like the marvelettes (please mr. postman) and rock and roll classics like (pre-war) elvis, buddy holly, fats domino, isely brothers (twist and shout) and made me appreciate musicals like "the music man" where the fab four got "till there was you" cause these were their influences and idols who inspired them to go out and perform.
