Welcome to Nunavut! From Alert to Arviat! Here is a place for all residents from Nunavut to come chat about their Territory! Not from Nunavut? Not a problem! If you want to learn more about the Territory, what better people to talk to than the residents themselves!

Nunavut's Representative! Name: skippy_crunch Age: 19 Sex: Male Location: Yellowknife, NWT Why they are a good Representative: I am closesly involved in the Yellowknife community, and pay a great deal of interest to news and current affairs territorially. I am up to date in the latest regional news and 'happenings', as well as having many contacts in the various art communities throughout the NWT.

I know someone from Nunavut.. she describes it as a tropical paridise of ice whee
Random fact: Polar bears are commonly found in Nunavut... so why is it on N.W.T's lisence plate still?? the two territories actually have a huge dispute over this....

Anyone heard of Jordan Tootoo (AKA the Tootoo train). What a champ. Who would have known that a nunavut kid would make the NHL. I'm not saying people from nunavut can't play hockey, I'm just syaing I find it wierd that scouts finnaly made their lazy asses up to nunavut to find some real talent. They should go up north more often. We need a yukon boy now and every provence has a representative in the NHL.

My sister lives in Nunavut with her husband. She's been there for almost 2 years now. They actually chose Nunavut as their first choice for an RCMP posting (he is) - isolation pay is good money.
I'll be visiting them this July (I actually can't wait, I've never been to any of the Territories).
They purchase 1 or 2 (can't remember) large grocery orders which comes by boat. After September or so there is no more boats and everything must be flown in which is really expensive.
It's expensive to buy things up there. For example
KFC Bucket is $50 (They have one in her town, limited choice on what to have though) A box of manderines (or small oranges) $16
Where she (below the artic circle) she has 24 hour darkness from Mid November to March I believe. This is mostly because the sun never comes over a mountain during this time. In the summer it is 24 hour light, the darkest it gets is dusky.
She has seen a polar bear She does have a computer, power & a phone although they don't always work due to storms. She lives in a "dry community" meaning no liquor may be bought, sold or consummed. This also means you can't bring it into the town. Her husband had to empty a large sized Crown Royal that he found. He wanted to cry. Not all communities are dry.
That's just one persons perspective of one place
