Starting in the 1980's with a band named Purgatory, Iced Earth started gaining popularity when they released their demo, "Enter the Realm," a $10 high-quality demo with four or five songs that quickly gained popularity. Eleven or twelve albums and four singers later, they remain a very influencial power/thrash band that now features Tim "The Ripper" Owens on vocals instead of our favorite Matthew Barlow. An incredible band, their guitarist and band owner, Jon Schaffer, is still going, and will probably continue until the day he dies. So...what album, singer, and song do you like best? At the moment, I like Night of the Stormrider, Jon Greely, and Travel in Stygian. It'll change later on maybe, but that's it for now. Ok, what else is liked?

i really have no preference for the singer...i just love everything i've heard by them.
favorite song is still 1776, though, which is great because there is no singing...Something Wicked This Way Comes!!!

Favourite album is definately "Something Wicked", as there's not a weak track on the entire album.
For vocalists, I'm going to go for Matt Barlow. He had a very unique sound for the band and looked like the WWF's Undertaker. Good combination.
Favourite song would be The Phantom Opera Ghost

I kind of like the vocals. He has a deep voice like me. My favorite album is probably Dark Saga. Haven't heard Something Wicked.

My favorite album is Night of the Stormrider. It has the best writing of all our their albums. John Greely was an awesome Thrash vocalist too. Matt Barlow's vocals were outstanding as well. I wish he wouldn't have left the band. Their latest album would be much better without Owens, although I don't think Barlow could've done The Reckoning as good as Owens.

My favourite vocalist is Greely, but I can't compare him to Matt Barlow as i've yet to hear an album with Barlow's vocals.
Favourite album, "Night of the Stormrider". And I think "The Glorious Burden" is a top album, nothing against Tim Owens here.

Beautifully done, although it took me a little bit to get used to that voice that Jon Greely has. It seems to be a pattern for me. All four of the vocalists that Iced Earth took me time to get used to. Gene Adam, Jon Greely, ESPECIALLY Matt Barlow, and Tim Owens, whom I think is awesome for the band.

Sir_Areus I bought a Iced earth CD only hearing about them last year... The cd "something wicked this way comes" was not 100% to my liking... But I have recently been shown so better stuff from them and I have come around lol ^_^ The first iced earth album I was introduced to was their Self-Titled one. I have to admit that while that one was genius, I didn't really like the vocals at first. Something Wicked is one of my fave iced earth cds, but Stormrider will always be my absolute fave.

I downloaded some songs(3...) the rest I am unable to connect to but I'll try again tomorrow... hell I'm not even sure if it's them but anyways the songs are ******** nice, I liked Angel Holocaust the most of the ones I got, although my own savior and the trooper cover are good too... the vocals are too trashy for me, but I don't get to feel like he was faking the sound of his voice so I like them biggrin

I don't think he did, maybe you got the Sentenced cover of The Trooper instead. Does it sound really black-metal-y?

In fact, it's often mislabelled as a cover of The Trooper by Children of Bodom. That should say how gay it is.

I personally perfer old IE with Barlow. I think Owens is a great vocalist, but he's no Barlow. The Glorious Burden just didn't feel like an IE album to me.

I ******** love the Glorious Burden. He's a different facet to Iced Earth. If I'm honest, I prefer Barlow for the originality of his voice, but I don't think Ripper in neccessarily worse.
