Just look at the title razz
I listen to Duran Duran, or, for my current novel, the Labyrinth soundtrack 3nodding

Umm, I like complete silence. But since that's impossible to get I'll basically settle for any fast paced CD that I know well, like Green Day.

I can't use slow music, sad music, or new music.

Thanks for the invitation XD

It depends on what I'm writing, really ^^ If I can listen to music that suits the current scene, so much the better. If not . . . well, I have issues with listening to music that's too intrusive when I write (most particularly with assignments and other serious, non-fun writing gonk ). Too loud, too many words, bass that's too heavy, and I'm just utterly distracted. If it's a good song with those criteria, I get distracted even more XD

I always use music when I write, but it's all instrumental. The sound of it doesn't distract me enought to you know, sing along, but it helps that I don't have to listen to just the background noises from my house and family members.

Usually I don't listen to any, but if I do it's always something soothing and instrumental. Anything with vocals will take my mind off my writing.

I listen to lots, and LOTS of scremo... I know most people don't but I like the fast drum, and I find it easyer to write when I'm banging my head. 4laugh
I also listen to metal (Sometimes). I do sing along, but not when there screaming! Lol

Love,
Gothic..

I just listen to whatever I had going when I started writing, or nothing if nothing was on. If I have an idea in my head for something I like to go with it immediatly and not waste time to do other things.

You listen to Duran Duran? I think I love you.

For me, it depends on the story I'm writing. A lot of my stories are based on songs:
  • Ain't That Unusual (Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Bullet Proof (Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Closer (Better Than Ezra)
  • Cry, Little Sister (Sisters of Mercy)
  • Monochrome and Delirious (based on "Dizzy" by the Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Desperately Wanting (Better Than Ezra) (some chapters have their own songs to them)
    • "Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo" by the Bloodhound Gang
    • "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi
    • "I Want To Save You" by Something Corporate
    • "Truth Is A Whisper" by the Goo Goo Dolls
    • "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls
  • Iris (Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Jonathan (based on "It's Over" by the Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Secret of My World (based on "Beautiful Love" by The Afters)
  • So Cold (Breaking Benjamin)
  • Stop the World (Goo Goo Dolls)
  • Think About Me (Goo Goo Dolls)
  • View To A Kill (Duran Duran)
It depends on what the story is. Out of those stories, I listened to the song during the writing of two of them. Sometimes, I just turn my mp3 player on shuffle and let it be white noise in the background; I don't really listen to it. It's just there.

Other times, it's just annoying and distracting. It just depends on what my mood is and how well I know/like the song. For many of the stories above, I knew the song quite well, and therefore didn't need to listen to it. If I'm writing osmething not based on a song, and a song comes on that I really love, it pulls my attention from the story I'm writing and it's hard for me to get back into the "groove," so if I'm deep into a story or want it to be well-written and consistant, I don't listen to music.

Most of the time, it's the Goo Goo Dolls, because I am completely obsessed with them. And they're 52/179 songs on my mp3 player. And because their songs are so amazing and inspire me a lot (as you can see from above). Sugarcult comes next, but they don't really inspire me. I guess for one of my stories, they do. But I don't have anything written specifically about one of their songs. Then come the Gin Blossoms and Duran Duran, because I like them both (Simon LeBon= heart ). Better Than Ezra has been slowly creeping up my list of people I listen to. I only have three of their songs on my mp3 player, but they're all three amazing songs that I can listen to over and over again.

Once more, it depends on what I'm writing: The mood, the depth, the inspiration. My mood plays a factor, with whether or not I listen to music, and what band.

Wow...That was long. sweatdrop

Duran Duran = heart
They've gotta be my favorite band for writing. They must have subliminal messages in their music or something, because it's just so charming, lol.

Hm, I'll have to check out some of the other bands on your list. I've heard of The Goo Goo Dolls(of course), and Better Than Ezra, but I'm really not too familiar with their stuff.
Yuppers, I'll have to check that out.
Oh, and I forgot to add; I can write to almost anything done by Danny Elfman. Any kind of music soundtrack. I lurve him.

I could write to the Goo Goo Dolls anytime. Better Than Ezra and the Goos have good lyrics. "A lifetime" by Better Than Ezra is a good story, about a group of friends who steal their friends urn from the wake and throw the ashes in the sea. Sad.

I don't write to Duran Duran too much. "View To A Kill" is a song I've always loved, as is "Lonely In Your Nightmare." And I wans't even trying to write to "View To A Kill" when I wrote that story...It was for English, about why Romeo and Juliet's families began feuding, so I was just trying to finish it in the two weeks she gave us. 40 pages, two weeks. Ugh. I never got it back, though...The teacher couldn't find it. Oh well.

I normally don't listen to music while writing because it cloggs my thinking. I start writing about what I'm hearing, then I delete it all because it's not my own, then I turn off the music. I can't think streight with the distraction.

I've discovered that when I write, whatever mood, feeling, emotion comes out of the music goes into my writing.

Though I am a hopeless romantic so my writing is very passionate and sensual no matter what I am writing to.

Realy, I just write what's in my iTunes Library. It runs along the lines of Simple Plan, 3 Doors Down and Something Corporate. I like it enough that it won't distract me... infact, I have a hard time writing without my music. It just turns into white noise in the background. I only notice it if it's not there.
