This... was not her pool.
This was not her bed.
This was a surprisingly spongy bed in a cave that she didn't completely recognize. Startled, Sanshi sat up, blinking as she tried to figure out where in the world she was. Her hand fell on her book, and she looked down in surprise, picking it up and flipping through the pages. When she came across what she'd told Rhapsody the night before, she finally remembered what had happened.
...This must be Arioso's pool.
Slipping off the bed, Sanshi slid into the water, looking for Arioso hopefully.

She found him not far away, dozing lightly in an outer room that clearly served as a common area for his guests. He was stretched over an underwater ledge, a faint smile on his face. Hearing her enter, his eyes fluttered open, and he turned to peer at her without bothering to get up.

Sanshi smiled rather sheepishly and swam over to the ledge, hooking her arms over it before pulling herself up onto one edge, out of Arioso's way. 'Sorry,' she signed, then pulled her book closer to write, 'I didn't mean to do that.'

"Do what?" Ari asked easily, stretching and shifting up to give Sanshi more room. "Fall asleep in my arms?"

Sanshi nodded, blushing darkly as she stared down at the water.
'I've never really cried like that before. I was so tired.'

Ari reached out, patting her hand before shifting off of the ledge. "Sanshi, it's okay," he assured her, wandering off to retrieve a small bite of food for her. "Everyone hurts sometimes, you know. There's nothing wrong with letting it out."

Curling her tail up onto the ledge, Sanshi sleepily rubbed at her eyes, trying to dash the rest of her exhaustion from them. 'It was the first time I let myself cry over that, though. It always seemed pointless before.'

'Thank you,' Sanshi signed -- she'd resorted to signing the words she knew Arioso already knew -- then started nibbling on what he'd given her. 'It just seemed to really hit me this time, I guess. Most of the time, I don't really miss it. It's hard to miss what you never had. But sometimes I just wish'
There she paused, then sighed softly and continued. 'that I could be like everyone else.'

Ari shook his head, reaching out to lay a hand on her shoulder. "You shouldn't wish that, Sanshi," he said softly. "Being just like everyone else... would make you boring, I think."

Ari shook his head, leaning back against the wall. "I didn't say that, did I? I said being like everyone else would make you boring." Warm eyes regarded her. "Sanshi - I wouldn't want to see anything about you change, frankly."

Sanshi made a soft 'oh' with a puff of breath, then smiled shyly up at Arioso and signed 'thank you' again. 'I'll try not to wish for it, then. Sakano would probably not be happy if I changed, either.'
And as always, Sakano's opinion, just like Arioso's was extremely important in Sanshi's eyes.

"Not if she loves you," Ari agreed quietly. "Just as I wouldn't want Kira to change. "And it sounds like you and Sakano love each other a lot."
