Narcissus here, and i know, this seems like something that's already here, BUT, i haven't found any thread resembling this topic.
So, Other then Me, what's your favorite Myth, you can post it if you like.
I Personally Love the whole Io saga, cause she was a maid, who got turned into a cow, before she got any sexual Satisfaction, and it proves, that Zeus is willing to have sex with anything, along with lonely old men chained to rocks,
Oh Io, how i love you so, you crazy Cow.

I personally have a soft spot for the Norse myth where Thor ended up dressing up as Freya... if you want to find out the whole story, it's in the Norse mythology thread. It just makes me smile whenever I think about it.

I like the Thunderbirds and creation myths of the Central North American tribes myself. They are actually very commen myths which in themselves is very unique, because most tribes have differences. The creation myth I'm thinking of involves the two gods of the plains tribes- Coyote and his brother who's name I can't remember and isn't half as interesting as Coyote the Trickster God lol.

The story of Skaoi and Njord from Norse mythology always struck a chord in my heart. A good friend of mine, who is dead now sadly, told it to me when I was in fourth grade. For the most part, it was just another story, another of her wonderful stories, and it blurred together with the rest. But I remember the last line of the story clearly, and even though many years have passed since the haze of time has not affected its clarity and importance in my mind.
"But when Skaoi saw Njord's beautiful eyes, blue and deep like the waves of the sea, her icy heart melted, and her anger disappeared, for that is what love does to people." Then I asked her, "Even gaints?" And she replied, "Even gaints. Love makes everyone feel better."
That stuck with me, though I didn't realize it. I wouldn't think about it, or even dream about it, but the fact that I can bring back the memory and relive it so easily proves that even as a child I knew there was something powerful about it. I reread it in a book a few years back and I was really struck by the beauty of it. Her love for Njord was enough to soothe the anger in her soul and ease the pain of the loss of her father in her heart.
"Love makes everyone feel better." I know now more then ever that that is true.

I like the one about Ragnorok as well. Its said that on the day of ragnorok that fenrirs family would attack the gods and destroy the world. Fenrir would seek out odin and devour him. Thor would destroy Jormungand.

REM Sleep Tyr Pihanna I personally have a soft spot for the Norse myth where Thor ended up dressing up as Freya... if you want to find out the whole story, it's in the Norse mythology thread. It just makes me smile whenever I think about it. o_O I never heard that one, I'm going to check my books right now. WHAHAHAHA!!!! God I love that one, can you imagine Thor as a cross-dresser! Just too funny. Or how about that one where Thor doesn't want to get his feet wet when he had to cross a river? He and the ferryman (who is believed to be his father Odin in disguise) get into a battle of wills and words and ends with a lot of trash talk so to speak. Yeah that’s also a good one. Or the one where Thor, Loki and some human companions have to do those challenges in the illusory giant village? Humours as well. Or that one where Freyja (wife to Odin) betrays him by sleeping with four dwarfs just to get a necklace? Also funny. *sigh* Man, those Norse sure had good myths.

Tempest says:
I like the story of demeter and how hades captures her daughter (persephone) it's sort-of evil and it makes persephone sound really stupid, but it's still a great myth.

Personally, I love the story of Glaucus and Scylla. It's got a completely random start, A fisher man eats grass and then hops into the sea and his turned into a merman, then a Romantic center with Glaucus in love with a Sea nymph. However the witch Circe falls in love with him, and he rejects her saying: "Trees will cover the sea bottom and Seaweed the mountain tops before I cease to love scylla".
So naturally like any scorned woman her wrath was great, and she took her anger out on the other woman, not Glaucus. Circe made Scylla into the gigantic monster that Odysseus loses six men to.
All in all an awesome story. heh
