There is a slight possibility that Virgil and Dante are Not Brothers.

Now that I got your attention, lemme explain. It is my belief that Dante and Virgil are in truth, two parts of the same soul. The pendant being a metaphor for it from the first game and the fight between them and the scream at the end of the trailer being the second.

But of course, that would mean the Devs at Capcom would hafta be creative so this will msot likely never become true. Oh well.

Actually there was a similar idea to that used in Phantasy Star 2. Nei First and Nei.
Nei First was a biological experiment combining human DNA with various and unspecified DNA types. She was deemed a failure and fled before she was to be killed. Nei First became quite evil and insane plotting revenge for being deemed a failure and the attempted killing. Part of her disagreed with these thoughts and possibly due to instabilities in the genetic structure that part split off. This was Nei. Nei eventually had to fight Neifirst and no matter what she would die in this fight because if Nei First were to die she would as well because Nei First was the original and had the most of their spirit.
Now for the Dante/Virgil thing to work there are a few alterations to the story that would need to be done to have an acurate split being idea, and it would have to follow a similar method to the Nei/Nei First thing. That would mean ALOT of Dante's past poping up in the new game.
First of all Dante would need the larger portion of the soul to avoid dieing when Virgil dies. Second the cause for Virgil would have had to happen pre-birth most likely to give the idea that they were twins, perhaps some meddling was done by an evil spirit. And lastly something or someone important would have to bring this information to the surface.

So while it is possible that they are not brothers but one split being, it is highly unlikely as you said.

O_O Now that Im done rambling I may go to bed. whee

Yea i can see how you would think that... but i doubt they would actually go through the troubble of putting that in the game because it wouldn't really be caught by many people.

I agree with pretty much everyone who has posted before me. The idea is a possibility, but I doubt it's true in the game. However, I have a question about your "theory": So if Dante and Vergil are part of the same soul, are they separate entities that are essentially one soul? Or is it really just one entity that possesses an internal struggle within himself, and is the only one that sees Vergil (assuming he's the second entity) in the game? In other words, are Vergil, and the other part of the pendant, and his memories, merely the works of his imagination?

These are just some things that I wasn't sure about.

alot of things in games are in there even though you probly wont catch it without bieng a psycology buff, like xenosaga, actually, DMC is full of philisophical tidbits like this, and I wouldn't doubt if that were so, however, capcom has a tendency not to be that deep... sweatdrop

Thank you. I got alot of free time, being a Part-time member after all.

Anyways, I've got another thing....

Who is the eldest brother?

It feels like Vergil is the eldest, but I don't know...

Yeah, we know that for a fact. But there could have been a pretty cool thingy if Capcom got off their asses and got all... creative.

I don't think anyone really knows who is the eldest than the creators of the game itself. But I do have a feeling myself that Vergil is indeed the older one... and I dunno, my feelings are usually right, I kinda have a talent at guessing what happens in stories (that's why my friends shut my mouth in movies XD)

Anyway, Vergil also kinda seems like the older one... In most stories its the big brother that does the nasty thing and the little one that deals with it... sweatdrop Errrr... I also think Dante is more... immature than Vergil... aheheheh...

>< I've got a big question here... Why is Vergil evil? Why the hell does he use a katana while Dante uses a broadsword? Why does he hate Dante so much? And why the hell does he comply to associate with Arkham, whoever he is? And lastly, what actually did happen to Vergil anyway? In DMC we're told that both he and Eva died 20 years prior the storyline. And we saw that was a lie. Then... where the heck was he all that time? Why did he emerge back into Dante's past like that, in DMC3??

sweatdrop Yeah I know, that's a chain of questions... but I can't help it, I'm curious! whee I've burned so many braincells trying to figure this out. I have my theories, but if I beggin elaborating, I won't be done by even next Christmas.

Thier twin brothers.

After vergil "killed" dante, he slicked his hair back and that gave him the new look. Before that he looked just like dante except with blue eyes.

Errr, Dante has blue eyes too. Just letting you know.
And... I think he had his hair slicked back from the start... I think the rain just made it frumpy like Dante's... sweatdrop The only reason I find Dante better than Vergil is the fact Dante wears no shirt... XD
