So I was having a conversation with my dad. It started out being about slippers and progressed to being about the end of the world, with lots of other equally freaky things in between. So I started thinking... so many religions are predicting the end of the world. The Bible predicts the Apocalypse, the Battle of Armageddon, all of that. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012. Malachi, an Irish bishop who lived in the eleventh century, predicted that 112 Popes remained after his time. He listed and described each one. After the present Pope Benedict, only one remains. A group of so-called Wiccans call the current revolts and other problems such as wars going on the "Tribulations," which they think is a sign that the end is near and they will have to fight to "triumph over evil." So I thought, well, damn it all, maybe they're right. Think about it. The globe is warming. The polar ice cap is melting at an alarming rate. If sea level rises six more inches, a great amount of coastline will simply sink underwater and the population of many major cities will be forced to flee inland. A massive earthquake is soon to hit the Bay Area. The world is under constant threat of bombings and even nuclear war. A big enough nuclear war could cause every being on earth to either die or mutate. And with Bush in the White House, even with his approval ratings down to the bottom of the rapidly rising sea, who knows what could happen? But being a Wiccan, I don't believe in fate or destiny. I believe that each person shapes their own life, which can also be shaped by others who are in a position that can have an effect on it. So I don't think whatever powers that be are just going to decide that the world's going to end, and no one can do anything about it. But there are people who strongly believe in their religion. There are people who want everyone else to strongly believe in their religion, too. And there are so many who are in a position where they could just get the world to end. The leader of a country could declare a massive nuclear war. If enough suicide bombers blew up enough dirty bombs, that could also have a huge effect on the world. Someone could simply invent something that everyone would simply have to get, which would contribute a giant amount towards global warming. Or a group of people could devote their lives to driving Hummers around city blocks, which would also cause major global warming. Seriously, people could do that. So as nuclear war raged, or people died from the toxic fumes of dirty bombs, or as the polar ice cap finally melted and caused massive hurricanes all over the planet, in their last dying moments, these fundamentalists would scream out, "I told you so!" The scary thing is, the end of the world seems to be widely predicted to be around 2012. That's only six more years for us to live, folks. Six years. If my theory comes true, or if it really is the powers that be who end the world, I'll die at the age of eighteen. So what do you think, everyone? Am I too crazy for my own good? Or does it actually make sense? Do you think it could happen? Or is my oversized imagination making me overreact again?

Now that I actually read what you said, I think you're making perfect sence. But people always talk about the end of the world comming and I want to know, What exactly does the "end of the world" mean? What will happen? Is it when everyone is dead or what? I don't understand what is qualified as the "end of the world".

Yeah. I noticed this post a long time ago, but I can't remember why I didn't say anything that day. And then yesterday, I saw it and thought, "woah, this is old."
